CTA Again?

These "isolated incidents" never seem to end:

  • Prosecutors have charged an 18-year-old man and two juveniles in connection with a violent beating that left a 62-year-old man badly injured aboard a CTA bus last week.

Larry Gilkey was riding a northbound bus in the 700 block of South Cicero Avenue when he was attacked around 5:30 p.m. on December 16, according to Chicago police and his relatives. A family member said Gilkey had gone out to buy cigarettes and one of the future attackers asked him for money so they could ride the bus. When Gilkey took out cash, another offender struck him, according to the relative.

The confrontation quickly escalated into a group assault that left Gilkey critically injured. He was placed in a medically induced coma and has since been brought out of it, but CPD said he faces a long recovery.

Just another check mark in the denial of Federal money list.

You keep using this word, "isolated". I do not think it means what you think it means.

The 50 million dollars will get the crocodile tears flowing but the 2.5 billion yanked for the red line extension will get the Niagara Falls flowing.

The department has no real strategies for addressing violence on CTA. Everything CPD does is a band-aid approach.

Of course it's never going to end. Google: CTA board members. Look at their bios. Ask yourself it you think any one of the seven board members even ride the CTA to know what is going on. There is also an upper management. The governor and mayor appoint these people. Do any of the board members have a background in operating public rail & bus transportation system let alone having knowledge of the crime going on their system. The CTA was formed in 1947 as a public agency by taking over the rail, streetcar and bus private companies. Since that time the CTA has been the political plum of Democrat patronage in Chicago. Nothing changes they all keep their jobs and paychecks. None of them are held accountable except to attend routine board meetings. The last CTA President for ten years, Dorval Carter, had an SUV for his transportation despite all that work for the CTA have free transportation. They all need to get into a program of riding the CTA and get to know what is going on and be provided with body cameras to document their "Journeys." The police can't do it alone.

Gilkey had gone out to buy cigarettes.

Four out of five doctors say that cigarettes can be bad for your health so one can argue that these yutes are standing up against cancer.

Deputize CCL holders, ALL CCL holders, with CTA free passes to any who present ID at entry.

Then, remove law enforcement personnel from cta property until they are requested. Aka, CALL 911!!!!

Stop writing tickets for crimes committed on CTA property.Lock them up for a change and see what happens! CTA took a dive when the chosen ones starting patrolling the L trains. And the CTA employees are no better than most of the criminals they were never helpful when victims reported crimes.

The redline construction project years ago was the only time 1/2 the red line north of 11th south street was ever safe.

I challenge Pigster to board the red line by himself at Howard on new years eve around 2200 hours and ride it all the way out to 95th Street and see what happens to him.

He knows how to stay out of trouble and how to survive without engaging. He knows which butts to kiss. When he first made lieutenant he tried to have it out with an old sergeant who put him in his place. RIP Sgt. B.

Back under the McCarthy regime, we did physical arrests working special. In 3 months we made a lot of arrests. Turnstile jumpers all day long. Trying to catch pickpockets was tougher. Caught a few smokers who had warrants. A few dope deals. All that did was raise the crime stats. So McCarthy said no more long-forms for turnstile jumpers, give them ANOVs. So we did. 5-plus per night. The next month McCarthy bragged in the newspapers how his new crime-fighting "strategies" were reducing crime on the CTA. It was all BS because of the ANOVs. ANOVs don't require RD numbers, which is where stats come from. No RD for theft of services means no reported crime.

Remember that we are pawns in a much bigger game.

What would you do if you were in the booth? Did you ever drive a bum to a neighboring district to solve the problem on your beat? Good times long ago.

It would be funny catching a neighboring beat car drop a bum on our beat. Then take him right back.

Don't work a beat on the border unless it borders a nicer area.
