The Department made the Gold Star families park blocks away?
- On Friday, December 5, 2025, the Superintendent decided
to hold the Gold Star Tree Lighting Ceremony at Headquarters, even
though construction is ongoing and the Case of Stars display remains
incomplete. Fine, the gesture itself was meaningful.
Yet not one of you could be bothered—for a single day—to surrender your privileged, reserved parking spots for the Gold Star families you claim to honor. Instead, you directed these grieving mothers, fathers, spouses, and children to park in the far west lot near State Street.
Of course you don’t care. Your egos are far too large for basic human decency.
There is a special place in hell for people who treat Gold Star families as an inconvenience.
The Department probably should have had everyone else who "works" at HQ park over at Comiskey and then use vans or buses to transport them to work for the day.
We'd say this just proves the decision to not build an actual parking garage at HQ was a mistake of epic proportions. Many of the new stations have those six-story monstrosities that are never half full....unless there's a Cubs game up north, then everyone and their brother tries to park there.

Maybe if the suck ass Lt on days would stop sucking his peoples balls for one second he would have taken care of the Gold Star Families like he should have. Maybe it’s better they didn’t park in the lot because that female nut job at the desk probably wouldve yelled at them for Id’s then wrote them parking tickets.
I believe the HQ parking lot is on toxic swamp land.

Another shit show by the department. The construction should have been done in stages to go along with the seasons. Not starting so close to winter. How about starting in spring.

The parking situation is horrible at headquarters. It was reasonably bad before they brought CFD, but now it's impossible. You can forget about any day where they have compstat or ceremonies, you'll be parking blocks away in shitty areas.
Wait till January 15th, it should be a mad house.

Don't know about the parking but i do know there weren't many gold stars in attendance. I know for certain the most recent 3 promoted were not there. Shocker I know.
Lets not forget about the connected civilians that have a parking spot in the main lot. The list is in the 1st Deputies Office. A long time practice.
What happens then?
Can anyone comment if they exempts in their dress uniforms acted as chaperones, greeters at the door or acted, lined the halls upon entry for the families or acted as escorts for the Gold Star Families? It would be nice to reassure families that their loved one's are honored and cherished by those at the very top. Those at the top should park in the rear surrendering their executive privilege for the day and park in the rear. Exempts and clouted can get their steps in walking the entire length of the parking lot like the first leg of a triathlon far from the exclusive exempt privileged "reserved for..." spots.

Chairs move on their own, desk drawers open. Walking down the hall is like walking on mountain trail. The HQ building was originally planned for more than 5 floors and a multi level parking area was planned but the ground wasn't strong enough. Also a roof top helicopter pad was dreamed but nixed.

Hell, at the very least - set up some remote parking for everyone, then charter a bus - serve some lunch, etc on the bus. Have the White Shirts on the bus to make some kind of initial speech, etc... Bring everyone back at the end.
