Letters Needed
Only twenty-eight years into a sixty year sentence.
That would leave thirty-two left to serve:
Here’s the information regarding the clemency petition. on January 6 a petition for clemency is to be heard in Springfield. It’s for Jonathan Toliver. He was a gang member that murdered Chicago police officer, Michael Ceriale in August 1998. Toliver was Security for the gangster disciples selling drugs out of the Robert Taylor homes. He shot officer Ceriale who died approximately six days later. Ofc Ceriale was only 26 years of age at the time.
He was sentenced to 60 years the maximum and is only served 28 years so far. They are claiming actual innocence. The evidence was overwhelming. Typical gang case with a lot of flippers , but everybody knew that.
Anyways, the state attorneys office is requesting submission of letters objecting to clemency for Jonathan Toliver. If anyone can do so they request that they emailed to Assistant states Attorney at jill.thornton@cookcountysao.org
They respectfully requested that all objections to the clemency petition be submitted [on or] before December 21.
We remember this one like it was yesterday.
Get those emails in. If anyone hears about the FOP sending buses to Springfield for the actual hearing (or wherever they hold it) let us know.

I taught Mike.
His father was a friend.
Sad.
Mike Ceriale did his field training in the old 13th District at Wood Street. When he found out he was being transferred to 002 after his training period was complete, he joked that his Croation language skills might get a little rusty working in the Robert Taylor Homes. He was a good man. RIP MIKE.
I came on in 1998. PO Ceriale was the first of 3 murdered in the span of seven months (PO Knight and PO Camp being the next two.)
May he, and all who lost their lives violently trying to fight crime and evil in this city, rest in peace.
Send those emails in.
I can't believe it's been that long. I'm getting ready to retire now and I'm sure Michael would of been planning his own retirement. The POS is still young enough to have a life, let's try to prevent that from happening. We all can type an email on our phones in less than a minute, let's do it now.
Remember the prison review board members are Pritzker appointed. They fear transparency and attention.
Make some noise to keep this pos where he belongs
My polite and respectful E-mail has been sent. We shall see if it helps or if some do gooder has ALREADY decided that he will be released because of, you know, feelings. Hi Pat...
No, no let him out! And let the killer walk among us! We all know he will catch something sooner or later. There are still plenty of us who recall the officer and the trial of this killer. It’s a shame the state thinks he has reformed his ways? Until he is taking the concrete temperature just like Chalkie, he has not repented.
Please let him out and make sure we have a new jailhouse photo to identify him clearly……
I came on in 1982. Like you, I saw the murder of three that year (Doyle, Fahey & O'Brien). I was assigned to A/1 Detective Division in '98 and was on the scene of Ceriale's murder. Was there for the arrest of the jagoff that killed him.
Look Tolliver up on IDOC inmate search. Keep that mf'er locked up
Lt. Byrne never got over the guilt of allowing him to join that team.
Sounds good in theory, but I don’t want to count on the POS getting what he deserves on the outside and enjoying any freedom in the meantime.
There are way too many walking amongst us and wreaking too much havoc before justice is served!
That was a brutal year for CPD. Mike went to Gorden Tech with younger guys from my neighborhood, all said he was a great guy. I was in 014 when this occurred and the 13th district PO's I knew said the same. May Mike and all of the fallen rest in peace. May the shooters spend eternity in he'll. I sent my email and hopefully every member does and it prevents this murderer from enjoying freedom any earlier.
Park Forest police detective Tim Jones passed away yesterday after being shot in the head arresting an armed offender back in 2016. The shooting left him paralyzed and was originally thought that he wouldn’t survive the shooting. He fought courageously for almost 10yrs. Rest In Peace Tim.
Why tough guy…are you going to put your freedom on line and do something to him… I think not… keep him in jail
Sorta a change from the last State Attorney. Good for her
I was working that day. Email sent
That was a difficult night. Little did I know then how many more would occur
CPD lost a lot of good people during my time and since
Any thought of letting this scum loose is immoral to say the least
Sent. May he rot in prison and then Rot in Hell 🔥
Amen!!!
Done just did email thank you for calling attention to this!
And the 002 Commander never visited him in the hospital or showed up at the station after being notified of the incident. Soon after, got dumped back down to Captain.
No Johnathon on IDOC Inmate look up. Tolivers but NO Johnathon.
What's his full name?
Just a FYI from an experienced CPD retiree in this matter.. 'Jill Thornton' the ASA that's handling this particular case for the killer of our brother Mike Ceriale, in her current position handling 'cop-killer' early release oppositions, has been in that position for well over two decades. She survived a few CC States Attorney administrations because she has proven sincere and dedicated efforts working tirelessly in this field, without concern of political affiliation. I've experienced her true dedication in this area going back to the 1970 era killers of Jim Severin, Tony Rizzato, Kenny Kaner, Kilroy/Hauser, Terry Loftus et al, to mention a few. She is a true professional and deserving of any assistance that we can offer to help her keep our convicted cop-killers in jail. They were found guilty and, despite the attempts of those known lawyers/law firms that SCC has highlighted many times on this blog they deserve to fulfill their lawful sentences. Please spend a few minutes of your valuable time to write a letter of opposition for the early release of Jonathan Toliver and send it to Jill so she may present them in entirety in regard to the clemency petition. Thank you in advance, thanks to Jill and SCC for noting this important issue.
Stay Safe and God Bless our CPD.

We were sent there the next morning with our unit. I remember that event like it was yesterday and was there when he got arrested. I will be writing a letter. I’m now retired and the MFer should die in prison. We always wanted him to know how much we were fighting for him while he was fighting for his life. Still bugs me. RIP Mike.
