Tate was a terrible Commander in 006 and didn’t show up to one of his own officers funerals. He was a merit Lt after being a Admin Sgt for Snelling in Area 2. Upon making Lt he went directly to Narcotics. Not one day in a district, as a WOL or Field Lt. He’s never approved a TRR and now you expect this merit idiot to handle a major incident or police shooting. Larry you are a fucking idiot.

You must be new to this job. No commander ever has and never will “handle” a police shooting. Do they go to the scene? Occasionally. When they go to the scene do they fuck it up? Always. Trust me, as a detective that has “handled” multiple police involved shootings, the last person you want there is a commander. Listen to what you are being told and stay away from all bosses at a shooting.

I had a Commander show up to a police shooting. Unbeknownst to us, the investigating detectives, he picked up a cut EM, walked around with it for hours and threw it on our desks at the end of the night. You’re better off when Commanders don’t show.

Trying to take hits at Darling? I Wasn’t on the job when his dad was but I can tell you his kid is a great boss. Helped a lot of people when they needed it and what matters most is that he treated everyone no matter if you are a worker, dog, PO or supervisor like they were human beings and didn’t screw with people just because he was a supervisor. He gets that this is only a job and people have lives outside of it and he has bent over backwards for people to make sure they are taken care of. I’ll take a guy like him all day long.

Sorry, I have experience with this, but I’m retired now. 022 has always been the stepchild of getting manpower. Only 9 beats for a district that size is crazy. Many commanders, deputy chiefs, chiefs and aldermen of past have tried to get more officers and more beats added and it’s never happened. It all started with Daley and his Bridgeport crap. He always looked down on Beverly and Mt Greenwood and didn’t care about it because it was all about the 11th ward. He had to make some bosses from the 19th ward to keep them happy and voting. Unless you get a mayor AND Supt who actually live in 022, you will never get more beats or more manpower. Once they made the “tier” system, 022 won’t be able to get more than three tac teams ever. In order to do that, the department would have to agree to give 022 XXX more officers which it won’t do. They did that to 016 about 5 years ago and added 20 more officers to the budget. After 3 years those spots quietly went away by attrition and never to be refilled. Asking for more beats to be added will be a losing battle. Actually, it’s already a lost battle.

Anyone that has ever worked with /for Darling knows with for a fact that he never got received a merit promotion. He scored high enough to be in the first class of Det’s, sgt’s, and LT’s.
And he is nothing like his lazy slob brother Det Sgt on 1st watch in A/1, who never did a day of police work in his career, and definitely used his father’s (RIP) phone call to get him to GIU, but he sucked so bad that he was dumped to 003 from gang intel in short time.
His newly made commander brother has always been the real police, who never once used his father’s name to get him anywhere.
Commander Darling is still young, under 45 years old with 19 yrs otj………..so we may eventually finally see the first upper exempt who made it there legitimately.
022 will now be the best district to work in, and will have the best morale because they will never be bothered by or asked to do anything that he wouldn’t first do himself.
Commander darling has always led by example, because he was lucky enough to be taught how to be the police from other non-merit, working supervisors who also led by example. For once, the dept got one right with darling. And it’s obvious that everyone making the negative comments have never met or worked with or around him, because if you did, you wouldn’t be find a bad trait.
Without a doubt, we now have an exempt who actually deserves it, and never used merit or a phone call to get where he’s been, and he’s never once in his entire career held an inside/admin spot unlike 95% of the current exempts. Congrats Pat, you’ve earned and deserve this new spot. Mute out the haters, who hate everyone, including themselves……and please continue to move up the chain, and try to spread some of your common sense and knowledge to the current exempts.

The Best , Johnson must think allowing a 69% for Lt and 55% score on a professional exam provides the Best , most qualified candidate for a merit promotion.
