New Chief Judge

The non-Prickwrinkle endorsed States Attorney won, and instilled some semblance of order over investigations and charging that may (MAY) reverse some of Crimesha's disastrous efforts.

This guy wasn't the Prickwrinkle Machine's first choice, but anyone coming from within the system is starting behind the eight ball:

  • For the first time in nearly a quarter century, Cook County sees a new chief judge take office today. It’s a job that’s rarely in the spotlight, with outgoing chief Timothy Evans emerging from near seclusion only for occasional social club luncheons and press events promoting the court’s latest feel-good initiative.

But his successor, Charles Beach, who ousted Evans in an upset vote by the county’s judges in September, will find himself under bright lights on day one.

That’s because the county’s electronic monitoring program, most of which came under the control of the chief judge’s office earlier this year, is sagging under withering criticism after CWBChicago revealed that the man accused of setting a woman on fire aboard a Blue Line train in the Loop last month was wearing an ankle monitor issued by Evans’ office at the time of the horrific crime.

Our further investigation revealed that Evans’ staff was aware that the accused man, Lawrence Reed, had repeatedly left home without permission, yet they took no action to bring him back. And, over the weekend, we reported that a man recently charged with shooting another man on the Red Line was also on the chief judge’s monitoring program.

Now it will be up to Beach, a judge since 2017, to manage the fallout of those headline-making cases and figure out how to fix a program that, by Evans’ own admission last week, has no law enforcement mechanism to address AWOL defendants.

Someone had speculated in the comments section that the main reason the electronic "monitoring" program was put under the Chief Judge was that judges cannot be sued and found liable over the continued criminal behaviors committed by the released criminals.

We'll see what Beach ends up doing about any of it - and CWB will likely be leading the charge. Click the link up top for an entire series of links to their reporting.

Judge Beach used to be a very prominent DUI defense attorney in Cook County. He also assisted CPD by volunteering his own time to speak at the Advanced DUI Detection class that was taught at the academy. Of course his motives weren’t completely selfless as well trained DUI officers lead to more arrests and more clients for him. But he was well liked by judges, state’s attorneys and officers alike. His method of defending his clients was to try to show that officers made mistakes. He was never rude or accusatory, he would only argue that no one is perfect and his clients should be acquitted because mistakes happen and it’s not fair for his clients to be convicted to to a mistake made by the officer. I always liked Judge Beach and when other officers would come to me when their friends or family members got arrested for DUIs, he’s the attorney I would recommend. I think he’s a good choice for Chief Judge. 👍

Evans still mumbles to himself that he was the heir apparent for mayor, instead of Sawyer.

JaMal Green posted a photo of himself and Beach arm and arm, all smiles as soon as Beach took office today. Tell tale sign of things to come from Beach.

Saw his comments after the announcement and he is 100% going to continue Evans’ policies. From Tribune:

“ Beach nodded to Evans’ record as a proponent of progressive approaches to justice and his work in seeking ways to increase equity in the system.
“Judge Evans once noted: We cannot prosecute our way out of the kinds of crimes that emerging adults commit,” Beach said. “This is a powerful, progressive mandate. It demands our whole system view justice not just in the lens of punishment but also the lens of restoration and opportunity.” “

I love it “emerging adults”. That’s a nicer way to say demon yutes. And don’t forget, Evan’s was pressuring his judges to do safety act type shit and letting the yutes out before there was even a safety act,

Sure sounds like this guy admires and will continue Evans’ policies.

Met Beach a couple of times at dui court usually these dorks aren’t really human when you interact with them but he was fine. I think a lot of you will be surprised how much this helps us out in the long run. Give him time to unfuck what Evan’s Fox and Preckwinkle did to this county.

You are an imbecile. No, junior, judges cannot be sued for any ruling that they make. All judges have complete immunity, unlike CPD with qualified immunity, and cannot be sued. Don’t like the ruling, appeal. You cannot sue the judge.

Judge Beach Is a stand up guy. For those of you that get warrants signed, Judge Beach never gave you a problem, he is understanding. Yes for his survival he will have to cave to some of the Democratic push but he is not going to hurt you. He actually may make the system better.

Cook County judges generally cannot be sued for actions taken in their official capacity due to a legal doctrine called "judicial immunity". This principle, established in Illinois and federal law, protects judges from personal liability for their rulings and judicial decisions, even if those decisions are erroneous.

The ankle bracelets need multiple levels of deterrent.
When you leave your house it stats playing loud classical music.
After 5 minutes it goes to playing Barry Manilow
After 10 minutes of that it assumes you are deaf and give you a little jolt.
The jolt keeps getting stronger until a countdown starts and then it blows up with enough force to sever the ankle.

What an embarrassing comment if you’re the police. If you’re not the police or working in the justice system, then a polite response of, that is incorrect, will suffice. But if you are a cop, you’re a complete doofus.
