Probation Fail

One-year-old shot via a negligent discharge:

  • A 21-year-old man accidentally shot a 1-year-old boy while changing his diaper in a South Shore apartment earlier this month, police say, after a gun he kept inside the child’s diaper bag became tangled and discharged, prosecutors say.

Chicago police initially responded to a report of a child shot in the 7700 block of South Yates shortly after 2 p.m. on November 8. Officers found the toddler with gunshot wounds to his left and right legs, and EMS took him to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition, a CPD report said.

Guess the twenty-one-year old is on probation for???

  • [...] According to police, 21-year-old Torion Stokes first told officers that an unknown man tried to force his way into the apartment and opened fire, striking the child. After hearing conflicting accounts, investigators took Stokes in for questioning, recovering a 9mm handgun from his front left pocket as they took him into custody, according to charging documents.

A search of the apartment turned up more weapons and accessories, according to police. Officers reported finding another handgun in Stokes’ bedroom along with a drum magazine in a hallway closet. In a separate bedroom, they allegedly found a second drum magazine, a second handgun, and a box of ammunition.

Court records show Stokes is currently in a “first-time weapon offender probation” program tied to a 2023 unlawful use of a weapon case. If he completes that probation successfully, the 2023 matter would be dismissed without a conviction.

We're going to go out on a limb here and say his "probation" effort is going to fall a bit short of the "successful" metric.

And the one-year-old, if he survives, will probably never walk normally.

Of course the toddler will never be the same if he survives. And if he does can you imagine the pain and suffering he will endure now and in the future when he has to go through rehabilitation which could be a long period of time. You really have to be sorry for him that his life was changed by some savage.
And notice there is no information on who the savage is in relation to the child. Where is the mother? She must have
known of the arsenal in the apartment or the
gun in the diaper bag.

We can thank the Democrats for the Safe-T-Act which allowed the savage to be back out after his last arrest. Google young children shot in Chicago, it's shocking. And we the taxpayers will pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical/ rehabilitation costs as well as legal fees for the courts.

Then again with Illinois lowering student test scores they will lower the standards for probation and give this criminal a few more chances.

The craziest part of the whole story is that he was taking care of a child. The rest of the guns and drum mags is business as usual.

Thank You Pritzker for the "Safety Act."
On that note, it was the late great President Ronald Reagan that once opined, "Politicians should be changed regularly like diapers, for much the same reasons".

The sad thing is given this is whom the child is surrounded by - do you think he/she really stands a chance in life? Maimed for life, probably, but when this is who momma chooses to associate with (baby daddy, uncle, boyfriend of momma, etc), that baby’s life isn’t going to be great injured or not. I handled a few baby/child injuries & deaths in my time- it’s rare children escape that life without a parent who 100% sees that life is bad and disassociates from it. I once had a young woman who escaped the life tell me that the luckiest thing that ever happened to her was her mom got killed and none of her relatives wanted her. She ended up in a good foster home(doesn’t always happen) . That family exposed her to things she’d never have had- family life, non-violence, a little culture, education etc. There’s a lack of self reflection, self control and personal accountability in the “community.”

It’s more likely he was just retrieving the gun than changing any baby’s diaper, How many stories of guns under babies in the stroller have you heard? I know I’ve heard my share.
