- I just wanted to send u this info in case u haven’t already seen it. This definitely deserves a post on its own.35th and Michigan closed [Friday] for inclement weather ? Is this a fuckin joke ?!Dozens maybe hundreds of officers with under 5 years on the job getting a day off because they can’t “work” in the cold ?! Going from their take home cars to the building is too rough ?So they get a free day off but patrol has to go to work and has to actually be on the street not in some cubicle nice and warm ??What about officers who want to clear from the medical tomorrow they won’t be able to ? Do they get that day credited to them ? Doctors note or not ? Do we all get a 8.5 day credit if we don’t come to work ?? This should be news worthy especially since Johnson said he was cutting CPD spending ? Who made this decision ? I’m assuming this will definitely be a grievance with the FOP. Please post and bring attention to this BS

After getting there, Maywood despite having a room full of deputies, said it was a last minute decision to “close all the courthouses because of the cold,” and said out of state warrants had to go to 26. Apparently it was too cold for all the normal courthouses but at 26 the temp was manageable. County didn’t decide to say boo to anyone so everyone who went to Maywood that morning, had to re-direct to 26. Who would’ve thought that jobs in the Law Enforcement field have “bad weather days.”

Only the flood of civilians were given the day off. Sworn had to just deal with it.

No idea what OPSA is but this department is just sad. Children in the burbs walked to school today in the cold but yet cops can’t report for work. We’re really really, really are just fucked as a department.
I wonder if they carried them, because that would be an even bigger problem.
It seems that this was only for the Service Center (whatever the fuck that unit is). But I can assure you that this a fucking unit staffed by civilians. Unbelievable

I remember teaching outdoor Carbine classes in January with no shelter. The only person who embraced it was Sgt Milan Vujik (spelling and RIP). Once you start getting the bone shattering “rattle” of the cold, game over. Don’t worry…it was only for 8 hours!!!

What’s new? The majority of the civilians in personnel still work remotely. Try calling to inquire about information regarding retirement, FMLA or tuition reimbursement and see what you get. The voicemail.
Speaking of, the retirement process is a total disaster. The way HR treat the new retirees is terrible. Don’t bother asking a simple questions about the retirement packet, they’ll tell to watch a video or advise you to speak to a civilian, who’s never there.
I remember driving into work two mornings in a row in FEB 2019 when the air temp was -23. Never heard of police officers being told to stay home because of inclement weather.

Probably the reason the court was closed is because the judge didn't want to get in his cold car and drive to work.
I remember back a few years when a certain Lt was transferred in from 013 on midnights (after it closed) and turned all the light out in the lobby of 007. This Lt then said, "Don't we close down at night?"

Cook County's staff of experts in laziness constantly reject prisoners for invalid reasons just to lessen their work load. All that accomplishes is delaying the inevitable. We do not release the prisoner upon their rejection, so they get them the next day. Further, we recently were told that County couldn't provide the Sheriffs for a Mittimus due to no manpower. Unbelievable. County is a clown show that is possibly worse than CPD.

OPSA is an independent department created by Lightfoot to handle administrative issues (HR, fleet, etc.) for CPD, CFD, and OEMC. Not sure why it still has sworn officers assigned since it is essentially assigning them to a different department (although I guess that's been done before). It's full of civilians because it is a civilian department, with no accountability to the departments it is supposed to be serving. So none of these stories surprise me.

I work at HQ and was there at 5:30 am, and so where other civilians. It was mainly HR people cause they always cry to work from home. All civilians
