Iowa Bears?

This is getting even funnier:

  • A third state would like to enter the battle for the next home of the Chicago Bears.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds voiced an interest in luring the NFL team on Wednesday, according to the Des Moines Register, calling the idea a "wild pass." A day later, an Iowa Senate subcommittee advanced Senate File 2252.

If passed, the bill would modify Iowa’s major economic growth attraction program to “include incentivizing the building of a professional sports stadium by a National Football League franchise in the state.”

The Bears do not appear to have publicly reacted to the move.

Maybe not reacted publicly, but one would think this could be another lever to pry something loose from Illinois. Again.

Don’t care where they go, just as long as they leave!

You would think the ownership of the Bears would have enough money and business savvy to fund their own stadium?
So instead of taxing a billion dollar business you argue to give away taxpayers money to help the team make more money.
Illinois politicians are the biggest group of morons in America!
Mostly Democrats too.

Quad City Bears. I like it. There will be no greater experience than driving over the Centennial Bridge and heading into Davenport to see a playoff game. Don’t forget to stop at Me and Billy after the game for a burger. The best !

The Bears could move to Iowa and it won't matter because most people can't afford to go to a football game anymore!

Kim Reynolds is an excellent governor. Only mistake she’s made was backing DeSantis over Trump in 2024.

It's a solid move. Iowa is growing, Chicago isn't.

I don't think Iowa has the population to support the team. I also don't want them to waster the money to lure them to Des Moines.

Very true, surprised democrats ain't saying football is a racist sport. Rich white people in the stands screaming at mostly black players to run faster. These stadiums kinda remind me of the big wooden boats crossing the Atlantic full of rich white immigrants yelling and screaming at the black guys in the bottom of the boat to row faster!

I maintain my initial 'thoughts at large' from the beginning...
Da' Bears will build in Arlington as planned, and partially paid for already, and are now just posturing to get Arlington and Illinois to give them more financial aid. The more city/states that make offers the more that it plays into the Bears agenda. The McKaskey's have put out a significant outlay to acquire the old Arlington site and they didn't become Billionaires wasting money. I'll again repeat an old Ditka adage... The McKaskey's throw nickels around like they're sewer covers.
It's Arlington, take it to da' Bank (no pun intended).
Stay safe and healthy to all my brothers and sisters on da' Job. Amen.

The Bears never asked for taxpayer money for the new stadium. They are asking taxpayers to pick up the tab for building the infrastructure to and from the stadium. This is not a new concept. This happens often when a large facility is built to increase commerce. JB just doesn't want to help billionaires. It doesn't fit the billionaire-hate narrative that the Dems are preaching. I doubt they are going to Indiana. Indiana is proposing a state-owned stadium with the Bears signing a 30 yr lease minimum. The Bears NEED to own their own stadium.

Yep. They've invested way too much in the nawth shore facilities. Wonder if they'll buy vacant huge office buildings, level everything and start all over in the nawthern subs? Lots of acres of empty buildings exist and areas scrambling for revenue streams. Commercial real estate costs are low whilst housing is high. Perhaps they'll move to southern Wisconsin?

It's been reported that the infrastructure will cost about a billion dollars. Now that is tax payer money. If the stadium was not built, that tax payer money could be spent on other projects like road improvements, education, pension payments, illegals aliens, etc. Bottom line the taxpayer gets hosed.

They should've owned their stadium decades ago for sure. At least they're paying for the actual stadium this time around but want what every business does when they move... financial incentives. This city and state will find a way to screw it up in an epic manner.

Infrastructure is generally borne by the local and state governments. The same as if Amazon, Walmart, or Pepsi built a distribution center there. Those are facts. Taxpayers may not agree, but it's the way it is.
