Offender Charged
From the Sergeant Shot incident:
A 26-year-old Chicago man was detained Thursday after prosecutors said he shot his own mother four times, then opened fire on a Chicago Police sergeant minutes later, telling investigators he had been wanting to shoot a cop since he had a recent “spiritual awakening.”
Judge James Costello ordered Treavor Taylor detained on charges of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and aggravated battery of a peace officer.

After being advised of his Miranda rights, Taylor told officers that he had shot his mother but hoped she would survive so that she would suffer, according to Pekara. As for the sergeant, Taylor allegedly said he simply wanted to shoot a cop, didn’t care whether they lived or died, and that he had been wanting to shoot a police officer for some time following what he described as a spiritual awakening.
Taylor is also accused of attacking officers and a lockup keeper while he was in police custody. He was ultimately transported to a hospital for a mental health evaluation before being brought to court.
Bunch of felony charges there....he'll probably have to wear two ankle monitors.

This should serve as a lesson to all the coppers that advertise they're cops even when off duty. T-shirts, jackets, car stickers, hats, etc etc etc, only put them at risk of confrontations. When I was off duty, I didn't want anyone to know I was a cop. I know this happened on duty, but why increase the risk when you don't have to?
Too bad Cook County doesn't have the Las Vegas sherif. A judge out there order the release on EM of a 35 time arrested mope and the sherif told the judge to pound sand. At least someone has the sense to keep these animals off the streets.
Absolutely shocked he's actually detained. They'll claim he was high, doesn't remember anything and has been reformed. He'll also blame racism. Then, he will get a 4 year suspended sentence and be out right after trial for time served waiting trial. At least society temporarily gets a break.
Rehabilitation is a myth.

In the old days shooting a cop was a badge of honor in the joint. But when brought to the county, as I’m sure ASSMAN009 can attest, he usually got quite a welcome at receiving at 26th and Cal.

Agree completely. I’ll admit that I did it as a rookie (hat band around rear view mirror, etc). Then I saw the light and didn’t advertise at all, no FOP stickers on cars, nothing.

I once bought a retired squad car. It was dependable, maintained, and in great shape. It got spat upon, keyed, the wipers twisted off, and doors dinged on purpose- and that was at the grocery store and shopping centers. In the anti-po-leece climate it doesn't pay to advertise.

In 1988 when I was in the academy the instructors told us not to advertise that you were the police! I followed that advice throughout my career!!
