Arson?

Word came in from some former co-workers that there was a person of interest named in the investigation of the death of the CFD Firefighter Michael Altman. He has since been picked up on an unrelated warrant:

  • Chicago police on Wednesday arrested a man sought in connection to a Rogers Park blaze that resulted in the death of a firefighter earlier this week.

An internal bulletin issued Tuesday said detectives were “seeking to locate and interview” the man in relation to firefighter Michael Altman’s death earlier that day. The man was arrested on a warrant Wednesday at Thorek Memorial Hospital, according to police records obtained by the Sun-Times.

The Sun-Times isn’t identifying the man because he hasn’t been arrested or charged in relation to the fire.

He has been arrested at least three times since July 2025, according to Cook County court records. In October, he was placed under court supervision for a year after pleading guilty to retail theft.

Three arrests since July 2025 and "court supervision."

One of our commentators knows EXACTLY what that means:

  • Can one of our brothers in the Detectives Division CONFIRM that the arsonist who set the fire was on Cook County Judges Electronic Monitoring !!??!!?? This is the direction we are going. By transferring Electronic Monitoring from the Sheriff to the Judge these vile criminals will run the streets with no metrics in place, public safety emergency as far as I’m concerned.

Yep, another person wandering around on Electronic Monitoring with zero consequences aside from a notification mailed to his last known address that he missed court.

Did he light this fire?

The suntimes published a story on the passing of firefighter Altman.
In it they talk about the hero he was. The. They talk about the legacy of the CFD Altman family. Then the jagoff reporter starts talking about how Mike’s grandfather was fire commissioner during the engine 100 scandal.
What does that have to do with this young firefighters horrendous death.
A young wife with out her husband. Two children who will never know their father.
The suntimes owes the Altman family an apology

Rest in peace brother

All the Tribune needed to do was report on the death of a young firefighter with a family.
But………I guess that wasn’t enough……………..

Tribune:
Though the Altmans have been a staple of CFD for decades, the family was at the center of a racially charged controversy that ultimately forced Altman’s grandfather, who died in 2020, to step down as head of the department.
In October 1999, Altman’s grandfather, Edward Altman Jr., resigned as CFD commissioner under pressure from then-Mayor Richard M. Daley.
His ouster came just weeks after one of his sons, Edward Altman III, filed a lawsuit in federal court against the city, claiming he was wrongfully fired as head of CFD’s internal affairs unit.
The younger Altman was ousted in February 1998 for failing to tell his superiors about the existence of a controversial videotape that showed firefighters drinking beer and using racial slurs at a firehouse retirement party, the Tribune previously reported.
But in the lawsuit and later in an interview with the Tribune, the son contended he told his father about the tape soon after learning about it. He charged that the then-commissioner lied to protect his own job after the tape was leaked to the media.
At the time, the commissioner acknowledged to reporters that the episode had produced a “family tragedy.” “But there isn’t anything I can do about it,” he said.
The video “totally reversed people’s feelings about the department, and that is upsetting to me,” Edward Altman Jr. said at the time. “When the chips are down (firefighters) come through and really put out an effort and they get the job done.”

Anyone else see a pattern here, anyone time there’s a firefighter death there seems to be an arsonist immediately arrested. Last year in 015 the garage fire, some local crackhead arrested for arson. This year Roger’s park. Don’t tell us the offender is also some useless crackhead. Do these crackheads walk into the area and just confess? Genuine question. How?????

Lefty Sun-Times isn't saying who it is because it hasn't been charged with arson; but it was sent to jail for warrants, and that is reason enough to say the name. As for "court supervision" that term means "NO supervision, & allowed to prey on the innocent." The judge should be held accountable for the death of the fireman for gross negligence and failure to perform his duty!

Tom Dart must have been over his head with the Electronic Monitoring program disaster. Tom Dart failed to effectively administer his program which he was responsible for despite having an army of "commanders" and "chiefs" in his ranks. The local police do their part do their part arresting criminals, but it seems the county's judges, sheriffs and bloated court bureaucracy can't seem to get their democrat controlled act together. And the colossal failure to monitor E.M. appears to have cost another life as we have seen time and time again. And who exactly is responsible for not taking action attempting to apprehend a person with an active warrant? Just exactly what actions has the sheriff's office attempted to locate this person, if any? Cook County residents deserve better and demand accountability!

If this is true punishment should involve a blow torch, baseball bat & a very VERY angry man! I feel we are losing society with each criminal who walks out of court M.F. ing the system & bragging about it. Good people need to take back the streets. I grew up in NYC (what a shithole that has become) but I remember NYPD driving by or usually walking by on patrol & giving an order & explaining the punishment if you didn't comply. A seasoned officer wielding a nightstick was a frightful thing. We need to get back to those days! You're a smartass? You get a smack. These shitheads of all colors need to know who is who. Back the blue & God bless all who run towards the danger

Detectives do interviews, review cameras, review data bases, then they go out and find anybody that may be involved. If the evidence and / or interviews of any of these people gives rise to probable cause to arrest, they arrest them. That's how this happens, you fucking moron.

And theyre from Cook Co not burbs. Somebody had to put the damn things on? There was no phone number on them like the old ones used to have. Nothing in their leads either. We just notated it. And that was it. Stupid system, whatever they are doing.

This is has been a serious problem for a few years now. CWB did a couple nice articles on it. If you combine the transfer to the Chief Judge with no unit actively looking and the safety act, EM is a progressive joke. They get 48 hours before a violation , they get 2 free days a week with no violation, every day counts as a day in custody.

The blood of that fireman is on the hands of every IL voter who identifies as a democrat

You guys wanted lawlessness y’all got it.

Criminals now run the streets unmonitored all in the name of restorative justice.

The subject who started this fire should of been in jail

First and foremost: Prayers for the fallen firefighter and his family. He was taken from us too soon.

There’s a very cynical part of me that wonders if we (by that I mean those of us in favor of public order and against Marxism) can use this more effectively than the heroic police officers who have died at the hands of those that should have been locked up.

Don’t beat around the bush, go ahead and say what you got to say. Dont insinuate anything, say it with your chest, let’s hear it.
Here, I’ll explain it, when we are really motivated to do something (a murder involving a cop, a fireman, a child), once the big train gets rolling down the tracks, there’s a lot of people on this job that are really good at what they do. Not to mention this day and age where cameras are everywhere, and we have people solely dedicated to getting video and tracking people. It happens every day in the city, from patrol to detectives to units, guys do great work, it’s just no one cares. So you hear 2 similar sounding stories and that they were both solved and immediately think it’s the police putting cases on people and just grabbing the first poor schmuck they see. Of course not understanding how this process works, but you’ll be damned if that stops you from insinuating something negative about the police. And you’ll say that’s not what you meant when it’s of course what you meant which is why you tap danced around the edges of it, so when someone brought it up, you could deny it. I’d sure hope you’re not the police but you wouldn’t be the first idiot we hired who hates the police. As someone who has been part of tons of these investigations, get some TOJ kid and learn a thing or two, if you are in fact the police. If you’re not, quit being such a little bitch and say what you mean, you’ll get more respect that way. Puss puss.

I'm not a cop, so you probably know more about this than me, but I read the reason Dart wanted off the program was that the judges and so-called prosecutors under Foxx were putting every homicidal mainiac who showed up to court on EM, and it was pretty much impossible to keep track of them all, especially after SAFE-T act made it even easier for murderers, assailants and rapists to laugh their way back onto the streets.

It's a shame that the family couldn't file a civil suit for wrongful death and name the judge in it as an accessory. One or two of these might cause Cook county courts to be a tad more vigilant and actually impose punishment on criminals.

First the religion then the courts then the press then the police. Obviously any story involving any kind of heroics of any first responder will be portrayed with some negative aspect. All part of the communist plan. Im surprised that these scum reporters didnt talk about the damage the firefighter caused to the fancy apartment when he fell thru the floor. Reporter equals the scum thats under a pile of dog shit.

Here's a clown who was never the police or actually worked the street and he became the news go to guy for gang crime information. In a city with the second largest police department (at the time) in the U.S., with guys who worked Gangs and OCD for decades, the media turned to some junior policeman for answers and advice.

I love reading the biography’s of command staff. One reads “30 years of service, served as a patrolman, detective, Sgt, ect ect before being Deputy Chief” Then the next bio says “Chief Smith was hired THREE years ago, former dildo tester and graduate of a liberal arts school”

Sheriffs Dept just hired a new boss, “Erica” Harris. Used to be Eric until a recent gender reassignment surgery. Dart must of thought it was stylish to hire a Tranny. Walks around correcting people on pronouns.
