Maybe it's the Trains?

Sure, the CTA is bad:

  • A 59-year-old River Forest man walked from his home to the Harlem Avenue L stop on the morning of Dec. 1 to take the train to Rush University Medical Center, where he volunteered when not working his regular job as a grocery clerk at Jewel.

Intellectually disabled, living independently and described as a “good, generous human being,” the man relied on the CTA to get around the Chicago area because he didn’t drive.

But what should’ve been a routine trip seven stops east on the Blue Line from Forest Park to the West Side nearly turned fatal for the man, who was shoved off the commuter platform onto the tracks by a suspect with a long rap sheet — who badgered the victim for $1 and apparently got upset when he didn’t get it.

[...] A Sun-Times analysis found the man is far from the only L rider to have been shoved on train tracks in recent years. More than 60 instances have been recorded in CTA paperwork since 2021 — amounting to one incident a month, on average.

But now Union Station is getting in on the act?

  • A London man is charged with attempted murder after prosecutors said he held a knife to an Amtrak passenger’s nose at Union Station, then slashed at his throat, missing by less than an inch. He allegedly claimed to be a CIA agent who believed the victim was a hitman.

Zakir Ibrahim, 25, was taken into custody on March 3 and charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack on a 32-year-old Amtrak passenger.

If they want to instill confidence in public transport being a viable option for commuters, then it needs to be efficient, clean and safe....which none of it is at the moment.

Too many criminals being released back to the streets.

They have 3 destinations:

Prison
Hospital

Gee, I wonder why there is very little crime if any on the Metra stations and trains and so much violent crime on the CTA stations and trains?

We need a Bernhard Goetz riding the trains and buses to rid the city of the scum. Sure as hell ain't the legal system doing any good. And the demoRat party has no inclination to even protect the citizens who vote them into office, let alone protecting Repubs. Oh the Dems will protect the criminals/illegals but when it comes to protecting one pos from another pos, well that ain't happening either. The demoRats have a motto, “Hurrah for us and fuck the rest of you”.

I’ve been at that stop, one side of Harlem, Forest Park, the other the People’s Republic of Oak Park. Oak Park allows this. I had a doctor in downtown OP, I no longer visit bc everytime I’d go, I’d get badgered by the same guy for money while I was paying the meter. Well enough, but when I’d walk away he’d call me a bunch of white racial slurs. Without fail, I could visit 3-6 months apart and same guy hounding for money. Same thing walking to eat there, you’d get badgered and if you’re a woman alone, they have no problem saying nasty shit. One threatened to knock me out- when all I did was ignore the request for $. Also knew a guy who lived in FP. Moved bc the got car jacked at gunpoint. OP deserves it, but my heart goes out to this victim.

The crime rate is out of control and not much punishment handed down by the courts. I can see the quiet birth of vigilante’s operating in Chicago. Where law-enforcement and the courts can’t operate, vigilantes will fill in the void. God help us!

Here is what the problem is, not just the CTA but other Departments as well:

“ Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen wouldn’t speak to the Sun-Times, but her office released a statement that said in part:

“Random, unprovoked incidents of people being pushed onto CTA tracks are extremely rare. In fact, the 66 incidents in the data cited occurred during a five-year period where CTA provided more than a half-billion train rides. None of those incidents resulted in death, and the vast majority of them were the result of a verbal or physical altercation getting out of hand.

How arrogant that she refuses to speak to the press. Instead they issue a crock of bullshit and then everybody forgets. Leerhsen is an attorney and should be able to speak to the press. She was not elected to that position. She is somebody that somebody sent. She owes her job to those somebodys! Her LinkedIn site is a bunch of fluff. She has no background in running a rail and bus system. She’s doing what Mayor Conehead did the other day when asked a question by a reporter, the Cone said the question was “off topic” and then fled with his protective eunuch detail.

It’s amazing that Chicagoans will put up with anything and not doing anything to rid themselves of these useless parasites.

The Federal Transit Administration needs to call these bureaucrats before Congress to testify as to why they do nothing about the crime.

Trump on the other hand may banter with the press but he takes and answers more questions than anyone in public office.

I want to feel bad for those being victimized by the Democrat voter base. But we've been warning them for the past 10 years how bad the CTA has gotten. I remember taking the EL for free to go to traffic court once a month. Was easy and didn't cost me a dime. Now on the rare times I have to go downtown I take my car and pay the $50 for parking or take an Uber. The last time I was on the Orange Line it was like a scene from a dystopian movie. Even Ferris Bueller and Det. Sgt. Eddie Cusack would refuse to take the CTA trains now. (Pepperidge Farm remembers...)

I ride the CTA blue line west daily. It’s pretty dangerous! The current department use of force model makes it impossible to police. I’ld Need a strike force of 8 physically imposing policemen that are intellectual and patriotic to clean it up. I also need 2 wagons and 4 cars with 2 of the officers undercover and an officer in the ATC room dedicated to us.
Following that the officers and command staff need to understand that OT is unlimited because the approx 2 arrests for high value targets a day involve hospital guards and trr/Isr/iod’s.

The population of homeless junkies and weed head vaping riders at Union Station has become intolerable. Every fucking day these zombies beg from their next victim. You often get hit up by the same jagoff multiple times a week. You see a lot of Metra and Amtrak police presence, but no dog asses in cuffs. Instead, they ask them to remove themselves. Signage is needed "Please do not feed the animals."

I take the metra to traffic court and it lets me off two blocks away. $7 for an all day pass and no one knows I’m the police. I’ve been done flashing my badge to save $7. And they can’t request your assistance for some bullshit happening on the train. Even if you take the orange line just pay the few bucks cuz either way it beats paying to park.

Off-topic: bike lanes driving away business - center square
https://www.thecentersquare.com/illinois/article_81e5e3f2-8b55-4e2f-a45d-3a5dda7fa44d.html
Bakery owner Juan Castro said the bike lanes are hurting his business and others in the neighborhood.
“Why would I want to keep my business here, knowing that I can go somewhere else and have better access. You’re making people not want to live in Brighton Park,” Castro said.
Chicago Department of Transportation officials say Complete Streets programs make city streets safer and more accessible for everyone.

In the 80’s, carjacking in Florida fell off a cliff after Right To Carry was passed and carjackers started getting shot.

Personally, I think public transit in Chicago has failed irrevocably and should be completely defunded and abandoned. But since we’re not going to do that any time soon, the second best option is to remove the concealed carry ban from public transit.

The bosses want more police visibility on buses, trains and platforms but they don't want the police to actually do police "work", i.e., locking up the criminals. Why? Because when a police officer locks up a criminal, that arrest generates statistics confirming that there is crime on public transportation.

Look at it this way, if a 100 cops on the trains don't generate any paper, then the bosses can say, "Our presence deterred crime. " But if 50 or more of those cops find an arrest or a reportable offense, then the crime stats go up.

Years ago, working plainclothes for CTA Special, McStreetlights wanted a long form for every turnstile jumper. That is what we did for a few months. Then, one day we were told to ANOV all the turnstile jumpers. No arrest or case report generated, i.e., no UCR code for theft of services. Voila! McStreetlights announces that thefts on CTA are down by 50 percent because of his brilliant ideas. It was all BS. Thefts were not down: only the reporting of thefts were down.

Criminals are not afraid of the police anymore. Worked Special on the trains. At the train station, I told a turnstile jumper to go back and pay. He wanted to fight about it. We had a standoff and he finally turned around and left.

Was crime reduced because I didn't report the theft of services or the agg assault? It's my day off, what would my boss have said if I took the offender to task and it turned into a whole package of agg batt to PO, TRRs, detectives, felony review, his going to the hospital (either for faked or real injuries), CFD and hospital expenses, prisoner detail, COPA involvement, BWC and CTA camera reviews, ET for photos of everyone. The city was saved alot of money by allowing the offender to walk away. This offender did not feel lucky to get away, he is emboldened to do this again.

This is what the City wants nowadays. We are not crime fighters. We are crime hiders, hiding the true crime from the public to advance the political aspirations of the incompetent politicians.

Pretty amazing - I went to Washington DC by train just after Trump's cleanup of the city. I had a layover at Union Station there - not ONE junkie or panhandler present. There were only two LEOs visible - one was a K9 officer and frankly, I'd rather have tangled with his dog than him if I were of that mindset. Brandon may not want to admit it, but getting rid of the riffraff really does improve the quality of life.
