Another Conehead Corpse
A 29-year-old woman was found shot to death in a West Side alley Friday morning, becoming at least the 79th shooting victim who might have received faster police and EMS response had Mayor Brandon Johnson not disconnected Chicago’s gunshot detection network 18 months ago.
The woman was found dead behind the 200 block of North Kilbourn around 6:30 a.m. The person who discovered her told police they believed they had heard gunfire approximately 30 minutes earlier, but they never called 911.
In fact, one called.
“We had no calls of shots fired anywhere in the area,” a police dispatcher confirmed over the radio. “I checked back to 4 a.m., and we had nothing.”
“Another one for ShotSpotter,” an officer remarked.
The fact that no one in the neighborhood ever seems to call in "shots fired" is something that the media will never mention. Ever.

I live in the middle of the state and I don't call the cops when I hear gun fire.
One time an officer was at my house taking a report on a shed break in.
Way down the block it sounds like someone bust off a couple of shots.
The officer hits the dirt, then looks back at me and ask "Was that gunfire?"
"Probably, happens so often here you get used to it" I said.
He quickly finished the report and got out of my neighborhood.
I can't say that I blame him.
FWIW nearest I can tell none of the shots I have heard have ever hit anyone.
Granted now that we can't listen in on a scanner it is hard to know.
I would listen to the scanner and there would be car chases, shots fired and lots of drugs captured.
Would check the news and nothing.
3/4 of the phones there are obama phones. Maybe a condition of those should be a shot spotter phone app...

If you live in an area where shots fired is common why waste the Police’s time calling it in? Or Nobody Cares?

One reason people don't call is because it can be difficult to know what direction the gunfire was coming from. And the calltaker is gonna grill you and treat you like an idiot if you just say "I'm at XX street and just heard gunfire." and without better info, even if it gets dispatched it's likely to be a 19p. shotspotter provided details that the average joe just can't do. Kinda the whole point. thanks brandon

I second this. Civilian in 010, I call 911 whenever I hear gunfire, Dispatchers basically don't want to file anything unless you have magic ears which can give them an EXACT address where the trigger was pulled.
