The single biggest thing we don't miss from the job:
- I’m currently sitting in the academy at the Impartial Community Policing class. Who in the fuck puts this bull shit into training? This is the dumbest shit I’ve ever been a part of.
This seems like part of the "consent decree" scam.
- the political powers-that-be implement all sorts of "progressive" or communist or racially motivated training for "slights" suffered by assorted "oppressed" communities;
- here's the grift part - some outside "consultant" firm of DEI hires comes up with a set of bullet points in a power point presentation for an 8-or-16 hour block of time. They charge the City and the Department hundreds of thousands of dollars for this lesson plan;
- some house mouse or pin cushion or future "meri-clout-orious" pick then reads the slide aloud to a group of coppers who know it's all bullshit, but they have to meet their 40-hour-per-year requirement, so they sit, happy to be away from the street for a day
Does anyone ever wonder why the training staff almost tripled over the life of the "consent decree"? Because the instructor #1 reads Hour One of the lesson plan, then go to lunch (or duck out) and instructor #2 reads Hour Two before they skate, etc etc.
When that Texas firm was here, we remember having seven different instructors for an eight hour course. They got replaced by a local grifting outfit once Groot was gone because why send that money to Texas?

Garbage training.
I think we need 160 hours of classroom training. I love in person training. That’s a nice break from the streets and an easy tour. I am not afraid to work the streets either. I still love to help others, but this department and city has made it very hard to be a proactive police officer.
It's the “Chicago Way”! Just as the state wide elections are the “ Democratic Way”. Ugggh, we are so fucked the Job, the City/County, the State, and by demoRats in general. They figure out ways to take money from us and give it to their friends and no one in the media bats an eye. How many people are on the take to set up this bullshit arrangement in the OP? The academy is brazen like HQ, no accountability, except when blowing smoke up someone’s ass.
Keep asking the presenters with questions about the subject matter and how they have applied this matter to their every day lives. Everyone should keep asking questions since the presentation is very confusing Everyone must participate for it to work. Be pleasant and polite!!
They make the excuse they need the instructors for their fake contrived scenarios at the end so that’s why the have 8 people, each reading different slides. And I doubt they’re pincushions because they’re not the best looking group.

One of the instructors told us at this class that if a man that is transitioning to a woman wants a police report we should list the fake trans name that is given to us not what is on his state ID. Seriously? Why the fuck would I put a known fictitious name on a legal document? This class was really too much. All bull shit. If you can read bullet points off of a screen you can teach this class as well. No skill involved in any portion.

There have been at least 2 NOJO from the city looking to hire retired PO's to teach at the academies. Absolutely no reason to have a full duty officer up there reading a PowerPoint. Hopefully they gut 124 and get them back on the streets where they are needed.
I like how they had the officers that are instructors stop telling how much time they have on the job because nobody could take someone with five years on the job seriously. They quickly apply for an instructor role to get off the street and they’re “teaching” officers with more time on the job than they have on the earth. Good times.
Why do they sometimes have 5-6 instructors? None of them have experience in what they are reading. They just repeat the same stuff everyday and seem knowledgeable. Like taser training. None of the officers there ever discharged a taser in the field.

The right way to combat it is to continue to ask the instructor questions about the slide and oral presentation. The lesson plan is garbage and will put officers in danger.

Recently retired- 26 years, age 52. Definitely not going to miss all the required BS trainings. Ethics, sexual harrassment, sexual harassment bystander, eeoc/disability, don't be a racist class. GTFOH.
Ask the instructors, how THEY have used the information they are teaching us how it has worked for them on the street?? Want to see them remain silent? Oh wait, thats right, they dont work the street.

My favorite was attending training and the "instructor" had three years otj. 1.5 of those years were in the academy/FTO training. God I don't miss this place.

Crowd Management wasn’t much better. They squeezed every drop of blood out of that tour teaching you formations that go right out the window when things go south.

I’ve been to many of these so called “racial sensitivity” better known as “white man bad” classes that are usually forced upon us because one person said or did some shit that was deemed racially motivated and outraged the community. (guess what community?) No one asks questions or comments on how they really feel in class because you don’t want to be labeled a racist. Those that do are tools and are virtue signaling.
Love how most of the instructors have 2-3 years on. Teaching you how it is. It’s a comedy skit.

I get the complaints about the instructors being bums with little time. And I believe that. But I don’t see officers with real experience applying to be an instructor. I can have faith that these loser instructors were the best that applied because it’s not as if they’re good looking or charming people. The best officers wouldn’t apply to sit at the academy and read power point slides, only the worst would apply to do that. Thats the issue in itself.
I agree and I wouldn’t mind spending the next 15-16 years as an instructor if I can get there.

The academy has always been a scam for the clout-heavy in CPD. They work a four-hour day with a lunch break and a workout.
They have no class or principles. They can't even think of words that rhyme.
But given the opportunity, will the complainer step up and train a whole department of officers? Older. Younger. Bright eyed bushy tailed. Jaded. Life long Chicago lived. Suburbanite. Involved in a shooting. Worked late the night before. Light duty. Stripped. Listening to every word. Will you attempt to take mandatory slides and breath relevant police life into them and present it to a room full of officers that who have already made up their minds about the training before they even left their house?

It’s not. It’s bullshit training by the Safe-T act. There’s nothing they can do to stop training mandated by law. Not everything is the unions fault, sometimes the job just sucks, which it does more times than not. Our union can’t strike, therefore we have no power. CPD is ran by politicians and consent decree people. Snelling doesn’t run CPD, he has no real power or say into how the department functions or what policies are put into place. Union doesn’t have a say, snelling doesn’t get a say, civilians run the show and we are to go along with their decisions, no matter how stupid everyone knows they are. Nothing to be done. Show up, look, point, laugh, leave. Don’t let this place ruin your life.
Continue to ask questions so we have to stay there later to combat information no one is going to use or take seriously anyways? Great plan. Sit there, let them spout their dumb made up bullshit, and go back to work the way you were doing it before the class.

Also, as a CPD to CFD crossover, think very long about the move if you’re in a position to make it. I’ve come across plenty who have regretted it. Especially if you’re someone in some inside, do nothing spot. Talk with someone who has already crossed over to get their perspective
At least when you had Plet out of Texas, they were seasoned police officers teaching, and it was all federal money. They offered the Retired coppers extra cash, which was a wonderful thing. Then what happens a girl that was a boss under department not gonna even give her credit mention in her name, worked it a couple of times figured out how it worked. She went to see her friend Larry, and they brought it all in house bringing over 100 police officers off the street that were connected basically not to be mean but they are the children Police and they are going to teach us doesn’t work like that. They should’ve kept it the way it was and that was federal money that they were getting now they’re not getting federal money they’re using taxpayer money to pay these coppers which is ridiculous. They have no street time. They would be better used actually trying to be the police because they never were.
The children have no street experience. They stand up there and they act like they do. What do they work two hours a day absolutely clueless then they do their scenarios, but they have never had an experience with anything like that so it’s basically kindergarten children teaching seasoned veterans never works.
While the “security and training staff” await Larry’s instructions and content for the next Sgt’s exam when none have any experience as the Police.
Not sure what planet you’re living on regarding “breathing police life” into anyone on CPD. This job has been dead since the Van Dyke shooting video was released and anyone that still was doing proactive policing on CPD got punished if they sneezed without getting permission to do so. The instructors for this particular class do nothing other then read some bullet points, but the purpose of this post is to wonder why this class is necessary in the first place. This specific class is not necessary and it sucks to have to sit through it listening to this bull shit, especially when the instructors have never done police work or are not even the police. I’m sure even you can appreciate the level of hypocrisy that this is.
Just be lucky someone is willing to do that job. These people work 5 on 2 off and are being cancelled every weekend in the summer. No way I'd sign up for that.

The CFD contracted with the latest racial sensitivity toy 30 years ago. Dr Samuel Betances. All of us were trotted down to the fire academy. He kicked off his act by having all the black firefighters stand. Then, all the white firefighters were instructed to recite…..thank you black man.
It went downhill from there. Fixed…….EVERYTHING.

I always want to know if the instructor worked a beat car for 20+ years. If not, they do not possess the skills to tell me how to handle the random police assignment since I have over 30 years obj in many different street roles in patrol.

Retired in January and I felt the same. Training ruined my entire day, it was the source of stress since it took me out of my routine. Glad to have left this clown show, put CPD in the rearview mirror and never look back.
Some of the best training I’ve gotten is with the heavy weapons guys. We need more of that.
You work the street, just stand stand up and talk about your street experience every single training you attend from now on. A room full of officers would love to hear all about it, especially given that you work the street. I can picture it now, you’ve stood up, the instructor sits down, you start by telling everyone you work the street, you’ve got the room’s full attention, you start talking about what’s on your mind, everyone’s nodding in agreement, before you know it an hour has passed and you can tell people are holding in their pee, you’re mouth is dry so you decide alright it’s time for a break, but no one wants to take a break, your experience is that valuable to everyone, you say no really let’s pause, everyone stands up and claps and begs you to keep going after the break, and you do, you’ve saved training!
