CFD Cars Attacked

Check on fire houses if you can:

  • Friday morning marked the second time someone targeted a South Side firehouse this week.

A union rep told ABC7 that a man wielding an ax damaged seven personal vehicles in the Englewood neighborhood. About 12 vehicles were torn up earlier this week at a separate firehouse.

Vehicle after vehicle parked in front of the fire station at East 59th and South State streets could be seen with ax markings slashed into their doors and windows early Friday.

We remember being invited to a few dinners when we checked in with CFD. We also walked in a couple decent sized poker and dice games certain evenings (wagering toothpicks only).

Plus, you might get to shoot some asshole wielding an axe.

This individual is merely another innocent and mentally unstable person, who does not deserve to be committed or incarcerated for the sake of the community’s well-being. Democrats would have us all believe this.

Off Topic - Saturday Shooting Range?

Retired copper here. A long time ago the shooting range was open on Saturday's at the police academy. Then they stopped it.

Will they open it back again on Saturday's? Outside the time they do qualifications. What other ranges are open?

I retired early with 24 years on the job. Save your money + invest it in deferred comp + save your mental and physical health= retire early. Stay happy and stay safe.

And now you know why they don't want firemen to have personally owned firearms when they go to work. Did someone in management see this coming and premptedly disarmed these guys?

When I came on there was still animosity that CFD had towards us coppers from the strike. To be honest, firemen were for the most part assholes towards coppers back then.
It did change as time went on and when I retired after 33 yrs there was a more cordial relationship with them…..

There is alot of manpower trying to figure this out but at the end of the day, no prosecution of the mentally ill who wonder our streets. When we stopped prosecutioning small amounts of narcotic cases we allowed an entire population to sprial out of control.

nice idea but cameras are not a crime deterrent only good for after action forensics. But, the fact is when a call comes in the firehouse is vacant. They need secured parking just as the police need secured stations. But, the city is cheap and they do not care.

Retired now after 35 yrs. CFD. Many as a ff and house cook. As in all jobs we had our share of a-holes. I can say no police officer came into a house I was a part of that didn't get some left-over grub, a sandwich, or at the least a cup of coffee. I was a striker and please remember some of what we put our future on eventually benefitted not only us but CPD. Protecting scabs while we were on the Barrel was not a good memory. God bless our first responders.

Firehouses love/want you to drive around their houses to look for offenders damaging their cars. Firemen can still do foot pursuits for CDTP. The ending is even better because they do not have our restrictive use of force, they can use full force to include chokeholds.

I was dating a girl back then whose father was CFD during that strike. Her dad came home half in the bag yelling at me one day because my brother was a copper and didn't support the firemen. I respected and kinda feared the guy but I told him I didn't know how to respond... I was like 19 or 20 at the time! I think his wife chewed him out cause I didn't have a clue what was going on... He was always real nice to me after that!

Back when I was on (in the burbs) I would flag down a copper when buying food for the day & see if any of the north/southside units wanted in. I would tell them what the cost was & would keep it warm as each of the 4-5 units from that side of town came by. It was camaraderie & the reality is the chiefs hated each other they were fighting to be the last guy down the village managers shaft for more money. But as the feral animals came West I was glad when the police would stop by on ambulance calls. People just seem (especially cops & firemen) work harder for each other when they knew each other. Always glad they were there. If God forbid something happened to them we would move bldgs. to help them. Us grunts on the street are ALL each other has

I guess the era of the Firehouse Dog is over, at least here.

Anyone could walk in - it was just that no stranger could leave.

Guys returning to quarters would find a would-be thief high as he could get on top of lockers, dog right there watching closely.

Rrrr...
