The poster may be for history. First Arby's in Chicago was at 78th and Cicero. Worked there the summer it opened, waiting to start college. Now on the north side of Chicago, the Arby's that opened hired someone who was trained in ballet. He later became mayor of Chicago! But after the accident with a slicer, we police fondly knew him as 91/2!!!!!!

As a wee lad in the mid 60’s I remember being in dad’s 63 Catalina with the rest of the family entering the parking lot of Rainbow Beach and a Policeman walking up to the car and telling my dad that there was going to be trouble at the beach and we might want to leave. Sad that there is so much hate in the world.
I think Ford City can be considered closed a long time ago with the advent of the internet and on-line shopping, the increase in crime at the mall, and many big name outlets pulling out of there. I lived within a mile of the place and would go to Chicago Ridge Mall instead of FC back in the early 90’s because of the increase in crime, which seemed to be the beginning of the end.
Lots of history in that building before it became a shopping mall.
Dodge built B29 aircraft engines there during WWII. After the war Preston Tucker acquired the building and produced the Tucker auto there. During the Korean Conflict Ford built aircraft engines at the plant. In the mid 60’s Harry Chaddick bought the building in 1961, split it in half by tearing down the middle section of the plant, making the parking lot, and the two other sections became the retail stores by the mid 60’s.
Now, seeing that poster for the Ford City takeover, it is as if we are watching the movie IDIOCRACY play out in real time before our very eyes.

If 300 or 3,000 for that matter show up at Rainbow Beach what difference does it make. Anybody who goes there knows what they’re in for. It’s a beach. That’s what it’s there for, for people to congregate on the lakefront. In days of yore, police would be stationed at the entrances. Once the parking lot was full access to vehicles was prohibited.
Ford City on the other hand is private property. Let the owners of the mall restrict access to the mall or close it if they’re worried.
