Good News

You can defend yourself is someone tries to take your gun:

  • Chicago’s police oversight agency has cleared a police officer who fatally shot a man after he tried to rob her of her firearm during an off-duty encounter outside her Washington Heights home, according to newly released records.

Video footage released by city officials showed that on the afternoon of January 18, 2023, a group of men and 39-year-old Leevon Smith walked down the 1300 block of West 90th Street, past the apartment building where Probationary CPD Officer [...] lived. About a block away, out of camera range, the men punched and kicked Smith while he was on the ground, until a witness yelled at them to stop, according to COPA. Smith then followed the group as they walked back up the street toward [...]’s building.

Hearing the commotion, [...] stepped out of her apartment building, and Smith asked to use her phone, COPA said. That’s when the three men approached her, with one warning that they would beat her if she gave her phone to Smith, according to the agency. Video showed [...] fending off the group until they left.

But one came back, grabbed the PPO's arm and tried to take her gun, which proved to be a costly mistake as she shot him twice, ending the threat and the drain on taxpayer wallets.

Nice to see COPA get one correct.

With the video evidence, and even a couple witnesses, why would it take this long to conclude such a clear cut conclusion? This should have been done in less than a month.

Fuck COPA! They didn’t get it right. They unfortunately had no other way to jam her up so they had to follow facts! Trust me they were definitely trying!

Three years to clear an Officer of clear-as-day self defense from a clear-as-day forcible felony in progress. It’s absolutely embarrassing and they wonder why morale is in the shape it is. So this Officer sat around wondering for three years if she was going to have a job tomorrow. But hey. “We care about mental health!” Right.

Years ago there would have been a round table meeting. While she was explaining how she was in fear for her life there would have been pizza. Then the meeting would be over and she would get a white shirt at the next batch of promotions. Or she would get her pick of what unit she wanted to go to. Now days you are under investigation for years. No pat on the back for doing a great job, just a long investigation. Idiots !

They still tried to jam her up saying the warning she gave the loser, that she would shoot him, was inappropriate. The de-escalation warning that we are required to give if feasible mind you they determined was abusive language. Luckily, Snelling objected. That's why it took so long, it had to go through the process because they still tried to jam her up.

It takes that long for a “civilian” without law enforcement training and real world experience to manufacture a reason to apply COPA rules to harm this officer. I am actually shocked they didn’t try the failure to render aid to the assailant route against our victim officer here.

Why wasn’t this good news reported in Chicago media? ). Your post-holiday-weekend roundup includes: the intelligence community swearing —anonymously, naturally— that it would never slow-walk a directive, the same day Hillary Clinton hopped on a podcast to beg them to do exactly that; acting DNI Bill Pulte ending the debate by firing "dozens" of them over one long weekend, courtesy of the Supreme Court's Slaughterdecision and Trump's freshly-signed Schedule F; a "badgeless" eleven-agency federal strike force sweeping Chicago —305 fugitives bagged, two dozen missing kids recovered— to jail the repeat offenders that Cook County's Safe-T Act judges keep turning loose; and the DOJ stripping citizenship from a casting call of terrorists, war criminals, and spies who lied their way onto the naturalization rolls.

So the moral of the story being off duty (or even on duty) don't get involved. I guess that is what COPA wants. COPA jumped thru hoops with their bullshit reasoning to sustain part of the allegations that they creatively made up.

COPA remains full of shit. Enough with the never-ending de-escalation bullshit. Dude shows you his gun? Pull yours and de-escalate his dumb ass right onto the sidewalk.

Dude tries to take your gun? Yeah, all-day-long you know that savage is going to use it on you, then do more bad things with it, so yeah, you shoot his dumb ass.

And when the fool says anything about it - the proper answer is just what she said.

Someone doesn't like "abusive language"? Tough shit. Circumstances called for it. Get back to basics and stop pussy footing around.

Loud horns, Mace in the fire-extinguisher sized cans, saps, wood shampoos, and Pb @ 1300 fps are what the Community responds to, so give it to them good and hard.

Which sends a clear message to Dude & Co.?

1) "Excuse me my good fellow, I realize you're just engaging in tomfoolery, but I will take decisive action to defend myself from your unwarranted attack should it not cease and desist forthwith!"

2) *Pulls out Gun, points it right at Dude* "Hey, you dumbass muther F'er... Get your F'in hands where I can see them, and get your stupid ass on the ground or I'm shootin' your dumb ass... do it right f'in now!"

De-escalating... dumbest bunch of made up bullshit I've ever heard.

SCC get this. The ghost of Heineken lives on. Apparently one of his drinking pals from 018 used every phone call to get to the range, only to leave after a few months because, according to J.S. “the instructors weren’t trained adequately to his liking.” So I asked around. He left because he wasn’t getting along with the instructors because he showed up with arrogance and acted like he wrote the manual for training. It gets better, he hits the medical at the end, few weeks before change day. I always thought JS was something else, but it all makes sense. Anyone associated with Hein always carries baggage that no one is willing to tolerate. You’re an idiot kid, you just burned every phonecall and now no one will vouch for you. Should’ve kept your mouth shut like you were told to.

You don’t know what you’re talking about. I was, as the watch commander, was at a few round tables. The purpose of the round table was to determine if a CR was appropriate. In that the overwhelming number of police shootings are good, cr were seldom obtained. But the incident was still reviewed by ops, states att, us att, news media and anyone with a big mouth who hated the police. I don’t know any one who was made sgt directly because of police involved shooting. I do remember a bank robbery, in the early 70s, in which a po & ppo stopped Dirty Harry style. The po was made a Det and the ppo was promoted to 1st class po pay grade. At all the round tables I attended, fop bought pizza.

Off duty defended victim after three young dudes tried to administer street justice for some shit he tried to do to them but, they are in a gang or three or four strong because older unc would take from him or they without hesitation. OFF DUTY PPO hears the commotion, assumes little homies are upto their usual shenanigans, f'ing with the old man.
She intervened, she de-escalated, she used minimal force, didn't put anyone in prison and when the "victim" felt he was safe to robb the good Samaritan, he tried to overpower her and steal her gun......? and when she WARNED him of what he may FIND OUT about the hard way, she gets dragged through the coals for three years for doing what her training, upbringing and survival insisting have taught her....? (And regardless, she is A WOMAN of color and a woman) Imagine if she was anything else. That is how anyone can clearly see why COPA is as corrupt and useless as the SAFE-T ACT. Eliminate COPA! Three years to figure this one out. COPA should grab a vest and blue shirt and try it out first hand.
