These types of rumors make us smile:
- Half days and free days are over for HQ officers!!!! New swiping in and out of the building and the parking lot!!!!
Because no one actually keeps track of this for more than a day or three. Then someone sabotages the swiping machine or breaks the gate in the parking lot, or whatever.....and it's right back to scamming again.
Remember when Walter Jacobson or one of the other media types would actually camp out at a Ward yard and log the cars going in and out and ask why someone was working a three hour day? You'd think with all the remote cameras and technology someone could stick a Go-Pro or a trail cam over on the school by HQ and record every car going in and out and have some fun with the clouted.

I was talking to a Sgt. the other day who turned down going to HQ. The Sgt said they turned it down because they were told 8 and half for 8 and uniforms will be cleaned and pressed. No ducks for them and especially no ducks for the POs unless it's an emergency. Civilians will continue to take admin positions. Field positions have to be filled.

Mayors detail here. Someone mentioned swiping to the Mayor, and how it went back around 2021 when they tried to implement it. He likes the idea of accountability and asked the boss to see if they can fix the swiping problem so it works properly.
Skippy Jacobsen, now there was a Chicago reporter. One time years ago he pretended to be a street bum and tried to go into the expensive Nick's Fish Market in the Loop to eat. The staff turned him away of course. Little Walter was used to going in there all the time with his high rolling news buddies. He acted like he had uncovered some kind of un-American prejudice against piss bums with his "undercover" schtick. What a tool.

Remember when the Lt from 019 posted the swipe percentages from HQ and the accountability group and other units were below 50% while 019 was the pilot district at 90% because Capt Kane held the district accountable. The Lt was disciplined for comparing 019 to HQ in on the bulletin board. That program went away 7-8 years ago? Hmmm, I wonder why?

I came from an industrial manufacturing background before I came to CPD. No one got carried, ever. If you left because you needed to go pick up your kids, you clocked out and got docked accordingly. If you were not coming in you took a vacation day or a sick day. If you were late for work, you got docked in 15 minute increments. And everybody was happy because everybody was treated the same. No favorite desk dolly's or ass kissers. No favors given. No Fucks given for hard luck stories.
CPD seems to have an entitlement about "being taken care of" and some people constantly abuse the system. In over 20 years I barely ever asked to be taken care of. I suppose it is because many officers never had a "real job" before. Also it may be because of the civil service mentality working for the city. It needs to stop. Morale is low enough around here without all the abusers taking advantage of as much as they can get away with. They know who they are. The bell is tolling, and this time it is for thee. These people are moochers and free loaders IMHO
The tax payers would thank you for at least getting an honest (sarcasm) days work out of these career scammers. They love to wear the uniform and collect the pay but not provide the services of a Chicago Police Officer. There outta be a separate “administrative” pay scale for these cowards. Cut that pay in 1/2 and see how many of Chicago’s finest bail from their little desks. It’s an embarrassment and a slap in the face to the brave men and women of this department who are working the streets everyday and subjecting themselves to the risk and abuse from some of our citizens. Shame on the city leadership and the Chicago Police Department brass for permitting this to happen. We don’t need a fully functioning police officer inputting data into a computer or processing awards or answering phones. Then you have the so called supervisors assigned to these people (Sgt’s, LT’s etc) doing even less than the people beneath them. Meanwhile our real and brave officers have to wait for a supervisor to become available to approve reports, inventories etc. Citizens have to wait hours for reports and services while we have cowards working in units like “constitutional policing” for 10 years + who like to brag about being the police and telling stories from their brief year or two on the street. All while reaping the same benefits (pay, vacation, pension) as a “REAL” police officer. Shame on you cowards.

DSS yes, they work 6 hours MAX. Sector Sergeants duck each other out after 6-7 hours. Privileges come with rank. Us PO's on the early side will get a duck here and there and it is always appreciated. The sergeants do what they can. I know you're a HQ ranger hero but have you ever worked the late side in the district? Rarely will you checkoff on time. When we all swiped in and out back in 2019-ish(?) the late side officers finally got a breather from those late jobs. It was great and it was FAIR because everyone pulled their weight, so start crying me a river, softball. JAJAJAJJAJAJAJJA!
why does chicago still have a designated driver for forestry ,bureau of electricity that sits,sleeps,reads in truck while a crew of 4-6 do the work.
same with garbage truck, blue can just as efficient has one man. city broke and too much waste, motor maintenance , send cars to quick oil change place, way. cheaper than noon labor at city garages. eliminate ranks in CFD. most suburbs do not have Lt. rank
95% of sworn personnel at headquarters should be civilian employees. Every exempt rank position should filled with a Sgt.Lt. or Captain. Superintendent should be filled with a former /retired member of CPD so the position doesn't drain pension fund. No pension for any rank above LT. Reason is it's the last rank that you take a test for.

Lol. If you are in a fixed day off group, it's an 8.5 hr day with a half hour unpaid lunch. Ya'll don't even know how many hours you are supposed to work, let alone actually work. I once saw a PO in a yelling match with a Lt. about working hours, and that was BEFORE we went to 4-2 in the district. PO literally had no idea he was getting a duck every single day.

I worked for a sergeant who would probably blow .10 on any given day but the man was a prince and we ALL covered for him. Be excellent to each other. There are many companies that have programs that are tied into the payroll systems. Swipe in at start time and swiping out at end time. Leave a few hours early and its auto deducted from your pay. Or have an option to deduct comp time. It can be done but it would affect to many important people

If the rumors are true and the new boss(es) enjoy the swiping program, then reinventing the wheel is an understatement. This will be the morale booster that everyone has waited for! I am not for any type of abuse, however, Supervisors should have the discretion to release people when needed, without the repercussions of a swiping program. Charles Beck was absolutely correct, we are not factory workers. The real problem are the house mouses who take extreme advantage while the real police are chasing the radio calls all tour.

out of the 7 sergeants on my watch, only 2 do full shifts, the other 5 either show up to roll call and then are out by 3am or they don't show up to roll call and you don't see them till around 2 am. They think we don't notice but we do. And one of them, the guy is never around past 3am but will be a little bitch boy about officers asking for the same damn courtesy of going home on fridays or putting in 2 hours on the front. I bet none of you can even hone in on which watch because I bet its everywhere.

WHY is it ok to have a civilian working at a station taking reports and inputting data while making $20/hour and then you have a house mouse at HQ doing less inputting of data, making $110k a year with full benefits and pension while only working 4 hours a day? COPA should post some people at HQ to do an assessment since IAD and our supervisors are useless. I’m not a fan but I am sick of hearing how these house mice get away with shit while the rest of us deal with the bullshit for the same pay/benefits.

You are 100% right to feel that way!! The stuff they get away with is ridiculous. Guarantee you if someone put in the time to review cameras at that building, you’d catch so many ghost pay roll people that it would make operation silver shovel look petty! When you get your tax bill, think of all the waste throughout the city agencies but never forget those brothers and sisters in blue who could care less about you as they enjoy their air conditioned cubicles, 4 hour days and weekends off. OT is also not an issue for them although they will cry when required to work a holiday.
Take away duty availability, uniform allowance as well as special employment opportunities. Furloughs should also be removed from house cats. These civilians playing police should not be afforded benefits EARNED by real police officers. The males assigned there should be wearing skirts

With technology being what it is today, how about attaching a camera to the swiping machine. Smile for every swipe. Automated time keeping is a breeze. Show up late or “I’ve got kids” leave early and get pay deducted. Repeat offenders will be accommodated by being sent back to the districts where they can work any one of 3 watches which will enable them to be their for their “kids”
