What Exactly is the Point?
More useless new laws in Illinois:
New rules governing who can use electric bikes and scooters, including where and how fast they go, will go into effect next year following Gov. JB Pritzker’s signature on Wednesday.
Pritzker signed Senate Bill 3484 which establishes regulations on “micromobility” transportation that include age requirements, speed limits and rules on where they can be operated. The bill takes effect Jan. 1.
“Technology is evolving, providing expanded mobility options for our neighbors through the rise in popularity of e-bikes and scooters,” bill sponsor Sen. Ram Villivalam (D-Chicago), said in a statement. “But without clear regulations for these devices, we are seeing increased injuries and accidents — jeopardizing community safety.”
So now CPD is going to be allowed to pursue lawbreakers, ticket the drivers, impound and tow the vehicles, thereby increasing the chances of consequences and deterring criminal mischief??

Just like at a dealership.....a transfer of title and ownership and license plates should be part of this law. I'm certain our law makers forgot that. Correct me if I'm wrong. None of these are Schwin Sting Rays. They are a nuisance that has been fostered by many administrations. Even granted whoever can use them by a method of payment. Don't get me wrong.....I'm all for freedom.....but....all these do is make a mockery of any type of existing law.
Just one more reason I'm leaving this rotten state, county and Chicago governed state.
The point is that there are a lot of fools that believe laws alone will protect them. They don't realize that in addition to the law, you need aggressive enforcement and vigorous prosecution in order to actually make a difference.
Laws give the appearance that the elected boobs are "doing something" to protect the citizens.
So this bill is supposed to all of a sudden make everyone abide by the law? That’s like these meaningless gun laws that never get enforced in court. What’s the point on having them in the first place?

Chicago has off road vehicles with engines running down the sidewalks and streets. And the police arent doing anything about that. Does he think ebike enforcement will take precedent? I dont think governor chubby has a plan. No plan at all.

Sheriff Tom Dart has already assembled a team he is calling the " e-team" and will shadow his Retail Crime Team in Chicago's Loop and near Northside. Dart has purchased 50 law enforcement e-bikes to conduct enforcement. This team will pull out of several Loop satellite offices.

I bought a golf cart recently for my trailer and got a title so it can be street driven so get out of my way. I’m gonna start driving my golf cart on the street back-and-forth to the store even though it only goes maximum 25 miles an hour. And it’s all all electric. It is headlights turn signals and everything.
Who is going to enforce this new law? Pritzker is dumber than he looks if he thinks this is going to change anything.
E-Bikes are mostly garbage. They are hard to get parts for and the batteries start on fire occasionaly. Average life if an E-bike is 2 years before it in the trash heap or sold for pennies on the dollar. There is no where to take them in for repair because of the parts availiability issues. Now, the law cracking down on them will make even less people want to ride them. Nice job fatass!
