More Money

  • Chicago Public Schools is serving up free lunches for kids during summer break.

Starting Monday, children 18 and under can stop by 96 locations across the city for a meal as part of the CPS LunchStop summer meal program.

Locations will be open Mondays through Fridays between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. until Aug. 25.
Remember this when Rahm is claiming the city is broke and the CPS needs to raise their portion of the property taxes their maximum again. FOP, are you taking notes?

I went to a Catholic grade school. In my earlier years I ate lunch at the school which my parents paid for. Around the fourth grade I decided I wanted to go home for lunch. My mother worked days and my father worked nights. The school was six blocks from home. So when I got home my father had lunch ready and you had to eat it quickly to get back on time. In the afternoon my father would start the dinner and when my mother got home she took over so my father could get shave & shower. By the time he got out, dinner was on the table and he ate fast so he could get out the door to get to work. They both took the CTA to work. They had everything timed. I started delivering the newspaper in the fourth grade. I was never without a job. Did 38 years with CPD. Took a few years off now I work part time. I don't need to but I help someone out. I never heard my parents looking for anything for free. And most of their money was used to send their kids to the Catholic grade and high schools. And I paid my way through a Catholic college. So tired of all these leeches and government giveaways it never ends with the liberal left.

Who am I kidding? Free!!!??? There will be lines around the block. And you can bet your ass they won't need to prove they're actually CPS students, or even Chicago or Illinois residents. All the "cousins" from out of town can line up for free food courtesy of the taxpaying citizens who get nothing. 18 isn't a child. 18 year olds can get a fucking job in the summer if they're hungry. Just more handouts for the undeserving to keep them from having to actually earn a single thing.

What's the mark up from who actually makes the food then who delivers the food and prepares it on site. Oh yeah and let's not forget how much of the food goes to waste and is thrown out, which ultimately raises the per lunch meal. How about it media let's get out from behind that desk and ask some questions instead of just printing what Rahm releases. Does the "milkman" from Bridgeport supply the $2 pint of milk?

there are free dinners served every night of the week all over Chicagoland and food banks where people can register and get free bags of canned goods, fresh produce, frozen meat and dry goods, all without showing need. Nothing new here. Catholic Charities and Chicago Food Depository are some of the ones doing this along with scattered other groups. There is a real need in this town for food and shelter. The working poor along with those with addictions and mental illness are in trouble.

No money for teachers? Are you kidding me? Every time the teachers go on strike for more money their cry is always, " It is for the kids". Chicago teachers are pretty well compensated for such a short work week and year. When the financial crises hit in 2008 and many people lost their jobs or had pay and benefits frozen, the teachers still got their raises and increased benefits.

This my friend is the nanny state. Government will take over the duties and responsibilities of being a parent. Post 017 spoke on how his parents took care of him and how he took care of himself. I want to add something to his post. His parents showed him how to be a responsible parent. This is another example of liberal government taking over the job of parenting. The problem with this approach is that we have a society where some segments of the minorities community does not learn of concept of parenting. Look what is happening today. If people can't be shown and/or taught how to take care of not only themselves but also their families how can they pass that down to their children. The more programs that are giving to people the more the people rely on them. The more they rely on them the harder it is for the program to be taken back. Look at Obama care. No matter how hard the Republicans try, it is here to stay. Prediction: In the very near future WE WILL HAVE A SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. Obama made this comment at Grant Park the night he won the presidency. "Come join me in changing this country"! What people didn't know was that he did in fact change this country. When government initiates a program it will never be taken away. The liberal nanny state. The next thing will be dinner for the family.

At what point is it reasonable to ask that parents take responsibility for feeding their own children?

This is fucking bullshit - along with all that food insecurity nonsense. Want food? Get a fucking job. Do SOMETHING to earn something to feed yourself. Don't have kids if you can't feed them.

If you could feed them, had them, and fell on hard times - we get that - we'll give you a leg up, but get your fucking shit together FAST and get off the welfare. Welfare ought to shunned, not celebrated.

We need to go back to Food Stamps - away from Link cards. We went away from food stamps because we didn't want people to be embarrassed about using food stamps - I'd argue that they SHOULD be embarrassed about it. Might get them off it quicker...

I have a friends who are both professionals and whose child is in one of the trendy public grade schools on the north side. They said the lunches are open to all students regardless of income. You just have to let the school know in the morning that you are not sending the child with a lunch so then the child gets a free lunch courtesy of the taxpayers. Do they take advantage? Yes they do!

Sounds like S&P is waiting for the Illinois budget impasse to enter a 3rd fiscal year on 7/1. Then downgrade to junk. Latest report says Illinois has run up $800M in interest payments on the bills it hasn't paid ($15B...yes B). As they say....that's the same as setting $800M on fire just for not doing anything.

Rahm and the city coulnsel lowered the rate on scalper ticket fees that they pay. But not a word about reductions from CPS or anyone else downtown for us taxpayers.

Rahm can't fund our pensions but he can provide "the community" kids with free breakfast and lunch year round?

Rahm and Chicago do not have a money problem. They've got a priority problem.
Rahm's priorities are out of whack and ass backwards.

It's in the burbs too. My kid is in a summer program at school. They open and close a half hour early and late for optional free breakfast and lunch. We didn't know why or who was funding it. Come to find out anyone under 18 can go to several sites in town. Oh well.

Does anyone remember the inflated price the Board of Ed paid to a Daley-clouted company that was given a contract to provide milk for the schools? The contract was not given to the lowest bidder.

Most if not all these kids come from families that are run by single parents who work most if not all work two and three jobs.
They make a shit wage, live in shit neighborhoods and the schools suck. The assistance they receive if any, is minimal and has been since welfare reform was implemented in 1995.
But keep on bitching about some kid getting a free meal during the summer if that makes you feel morally superior.

"Another social justice program geared to show that voting for demorats benefits the children, so keep voting demorat. And once a program like this is instituted, it is next to impossible to cut from a budget. Another entitlement, another Right of the people. Government from birth to grave comes through again."

Just like Social Security and Medicare, school vaccinations, Democrat instituted programs that your Grandparents relied on. Your Grandparents owe their very existence to Government Cradle to Grave programs and if it wasn't for those programs you wouldn't be here either dumbass.

Let them starve to the point that they don't have the strength to pull the trigger or mug someone. Let them starve I do not give a F. I fed my kids and paid for everything that comes with having kids. If the choice was work or starve how many would get off there ass and work? 50+ years of Johnson's Great Society has done nothing but create useless pieces of crap that won't take care of themselves. F em let em starve they contribute nothing....

Also, has anyone noticed the true green trucks maintaining the grass areas on the public school grounds? Seems there's money for all cps properties to be taken care but when it comes down to bottom line, they cry there's no money. Don't be fooled, most companies cut back , first to go is property maintenance, so this should be an indication that there is plenty of money in the school system!!

Guess nobody wants to go to an open CPS school for puzzles, math instruction, story time, reading skills, etiquette skills. All we wants is free food...

Reported ages of 1-18 are eligible for free lunches?
Most kids don't start at a CPS pre-school until age 5. So now we have to feed future graduates from ages 1-4?

We're against the government raising children in place of parents. Where does parental responsibility even begin these days?

Now go wait in line for your government cheese, Asshat.

Who cares? If they want to stay stupid, so be it. Many go to school at
CPS and are still stupid anyway.
