Blowing It - Casino

  • Despite issuing a dismal financial forecast that has put a potential Chicago casino on standby, a state-hired consultant determined slot machines at O’Hare and Midway airports could take off for city coffers.

In a brief analysis tucked at the bottom of its highly anticipated 50-page feasibility report on the prospects of a city gambling house, Union Gaming Analytics estimated that installing 500 slots at Chicago’s busy transit hubs could pull in nearly $37 million from globetrotting gamblers each year. That would out-earn the notorious slots located in terminals in Las Vegas and Reno, the only airports in the United States where travelers currently can take a spin, according to the study released Tuesday.

But potential airport winnings will be moot if Mayor Lori Lightfoot and state lawmakers don’t alter the casino’s 72% effective tax rate under Illinois’ sweeping gambling expansion, a levy the consulting firm deemed too “onerous” to draw any developers to the table. Slots placed at the airport would be run by the operator of the Chicago mega-casino and count against the 4,000 gaming positions allotted to them.
These people could fuck up a one car funeral.

It’s not that they’re stupid or incompetent (which they are). They just don’t give a fuck. Lori is in there to take care of her people and if the city continues to fail she’ll just blame it on someone else.

McCarran is a nice airport, with facilities conducive to spending money. The consultants really think that people will be lining up to spend more money in two of the world's least favorite civilian airports? Riiiiiiight. They'd probably be better off opening head shops to sell whatever those guys were smoking when those numbers were produced.

Maybe in another 20 years when all that blown smoke about a new terminal yields some results. If Chicago still exists, that is.

It’s so sad and unbelievable how terrible the politicians are in Chicago and Illinois. They squander a golden opportunity to do something great for a struggling city.

"Blowing It - Casino"

"These people could fuck up a one car funeral..."

Awwww now SCC, don't be too hard on the rooty-poot Groot!

With the abject pandering as evidenced by Team Groot's
selection of the five least viable and least attractive
proposed casino sites that were promptly "shitted on"
by gambling industry consultants, we proposed that they
instead be repurposed as community funeral, fish fry and
fashion show emporiums...

They'll be of far more constructive use and have potential
to generate FAR MORE "revenue" than any single Chicago
casino ever could plus with the inherent/built in potential
for good old fashioned Chicago-Style graft, fuckery, beak-wetting,
lick-hitting, palm-greasing and ass-grabbing, the usual suspects
will surely "make it rain."

It'll be a good time.

No?

First coffin knocked off the bier...
"Who invited Y'ALL?"

First wig snatched off and unceremoniously dropped in the fryer...
"BITCH!"
>Snatch! SIZZLE!<

First ass surreptitously let out with an Exacto during a sashay...
>Strut!<
"I'm WORKIN' DIS SHIT!"
>TEAR!<
"OOOH! Yo ass out!"

Meanwhile... Those rolling dens of iniquity known
as party buses have plenty of "sportin' life" occurring.

If'n you don't mind the occasional muffled gun shots,
screams of pain and yes even laughter coming from inside.

All of this... Is what the militantly maladjusted midget
madame mayoress has to look forward to as her legacy.

Blowing it...
Bigly...

Of course they'll blame it all on
The Police being "obstructionists."

As for The Police?

Police Like You Have No Friends.

Look.
Point & Laugh.
Leave.

Protect yourselves from THEM
no matter what.

Gaming isn't a panacea. It attracts the lowest common denominator and drains paychecks. Atlantic City isn't doing too well, for example. Europe does it right; all casinos are private and a line of credit is issued to all players. Once the credit is exhausted, no play till next pay day. In other words, the house enforces money management on the players. First thing any gambler learns is that winning go in one pocket and the roll is the other. Once the roll is gone, time to go home, no matter how much has been won. Deviation from this law leads to the type of degeneracy that is part and parcel of the Las Vegas Experience. Player has a seizure at the table? Pit sends the house security to check his room before calling Metro. As long as he has an open line of credit then that three inch wide line of black tar on the bureau is unreported. Touring the sewer in a glass bottom boat is the best way to describe the effects of legal gambling

If the only place gambling can make money is the airports, then do it that way.
If you need a home casino too, then open a tiny casino somewhere that Chicago will subsidize.

Personally, I don't think any casino is going to make much money. Just ask the folks in Atlantic City.

Ain’t that the truth. They’re good at going on the air to talk about Restorative Justice, Poverty Crime, and threaten the President, but actually think and formulate policy? Nah.

What we have now are imbecilic jaw flappin politicians nationwide that have taken a page from the playbooks of Sharpton, Jackson, Pfleger, etc. All (inflammatory) talk and no action.

If anyone could have put a casino or even slot gaming at ORD/MDW it would have been Shortshanks.
Luring LightLoafer doesn’t have the chops to master a deal, just a chip on her shoulder. The sour puss toad just rubs people the wrong way with those progressive liberal demands. she’s an idiot, Don’t ever forget, nobody tells her what to do.

Keep one thing in mind, it’s not the City, it’s the casino owner-operator and the investment group that has the say, Chicago only gets the license, to hold. All revenues are divvied, shorted leftovers will go into GrootFoot’s Sanctuary Community discretionary pot - not PD/FD pensions.

This casino thing has been going on for decades here.
Many venues planned on it but the operators just don’t like the returns, though hundreds of millions, the tax gouging is a tremendous pill to swallow.
Shanks and Rahm both liked to tout O’Hare as an economic engine, expanding and rebuilding since the 2001 modernization master plan, 1983-93 if you include old man Daley’s deals.
So far nobody is reaping any tax relief or share of the O’Hare’s airline revenues....maybe just the bloated O’Hare clouted staff of commissioner, deputy commissioners, asst. commissioners, assist to the assistant commissioners, supervisors, asst. supervisors, asst to the asst. supervisors, etc, etc, etc.

Chicago will lose that license like Rosemont. Simply too much city political interference would take at least 5 years to build it after all the favors are doled out, elected morons will ruin the chance again.
A smart nearby town, maybe even second chance for Rosemont will get it and have it up and running in under a year.

If we’re depending on an incompetent former assistant to a Federal prosecutor to work a deal, we won’t be getting anything or anywhere.
Chalk up another loss and blame the foul mouthed toad who would rather croak all day about inequities.

I think you are referring to the "hold". In your example if someone bets a dollar the machine returns 90 cents. That is on average over time. You then bet the 90 cents and the machine "holds" 10 % returning 81 cents. And so on. You can see that your dollar won't last long. Most casinos in Chicago-land are holding 11 %. The "locals" casinos in Vegas hold much less, maybe 7 % but the strip properties are around 10 %. This is on average across the casino floor. If you play a $100 machine it may only hold 2 percent. If you play a Penny machine it may hold 15 percent. Choose your poison.

Any revenue made by a Chicago based casino would NEVER go anywhere near the pension, think school rebuilding, education, housing, etc. hell they would rather spend it on gambling addiction programs, and throw drugs, alcohol, and betting addiction programs in there too. Then all of that is fully funded then Lightfoot and JB will find the pensions. But they’d rather change the constitution and defund the pensions way before then. More planters are needed on Michigan Ave, more flowers are needed at Daley Park, and there are corners in Roseland that need sprucing up. That will all come first before the pension relief. Next week’s prime time address will spell it out for those waiting for the rescue wagon. It ain’t coming!
