ISP Shot, Wounded
- An Illinois State Police officer was shot by a person now in custody after the officer tried to serve a search warrant for a home in Wheeling, officials said.
The shots were fired during the execution of an arrest and search warrant in a home near East Manchester Drive and Park Avenue around 6:30 p.m., authorities said.
The officer, 32, is a five-year veteran and was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
A suspect is in custody, they said, and was wanted for forcible detention, aggravated assault to a police officer and aggravated unlawful restraint stemming from a state police traffic stop on I-294 around 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Hope the trooper is doing OK but hey boys and girls.. stop playing police. It’s going to get you hurt or in trouble. Let’s not forget 6 cops just got shot in philly serving a warrant and the community is out holding daily rally’s for the offender. We have the tribune here saying the police are wrong for charging the rats in the attempted carjacking in Gurnee with murder. We have a mayor who despises is. We have a police board that just fired coppers for just showing up to the van dyke job. We have a criminal justice system and states attorney who doesn’t want anything to do with our arrests and investigations except toss them or complicate them. We have rules in place to let the most violent criminals out on bond because it’s ok what they are doing. You have body cams strapped to you scrutinized daily. You have white shirts like J.D. in 008 who just can from saturation who gets CR numbers on his own coppers on a weekly basis and who has zero spine. Yet you guys still go out there... especially the new age tac kids with 2,3 and 4 years on who wear skinny pants, “fresh” hats and look “fly” like work is a fashion show just to play the tac game and tell people they are on a tac team. It’s going to get you nowhere. Yet on the news today you had the 10th district policia tac team looking fresh as ever recovering 60+ guns so their Sgt can one day weasel his way back into gang investigations. The dangers on this job outweigh anything else.. not physical dangers but getting jammed and ran over by the city and department are not worth it. DONT MAKE ARRESTS if you don’t have to! If you must then do it but don’t go above and beyond. One day you will understand. 3 years just don’t get it.

Best wishes for a full recovery Trooper. ISP SWAT is a top notch SWAT team, might be the best one in Chicagoland area, I am guessing this guy knew they were coming. So when he saw a ISP presence outside his townhouse, he started shooting. This is the world we live in now, this is what is the new norm. Watch your backs and each others! Good job ISP limiting the injuries to other Troopers/Operators on scene and apprehending the offender.
Prayers for the ISP and family. Too many LEOs shot too often.

We're losing too many officers. Top, big-shots are doing jack. Another officer in NY took his life. He was the 9th.

Years ago Wheeling used to be a real SHITHOLE, one of the tougher suburbs around. They have cleaned it up a lot, it’s not what it used to be. Nicer neighborhoods, some of the better schools in the state (doesn’t say much), great parks and park district facilities, and nice restaurants with shops supposedly coming. Not what it used to be.
Somehow Leo will find a way to give himself another medal for this...
@12:43am, my god, I hope the troopers family members don’t read the comments. That rant was a complete embarrassment and absolutely shameful. A trooper gets shot and you go on a rant about Chicago cops with 4 years on and what pants they wear to work. People like you are a disgrace to this job and should’ve long ago been exiled. He gets shot, and your message to the family is “I hope he’s okay BUT, he got shot for nothing because none of this is worth it and he’s just a 4 year wonder who doesn’t know anything.” You embarrassing me, you embarrass yourself with ignorant statements like you made. We’ve got brothers dying out here confronting active shooters, doing gods work, and your response is “it’s not worth it”, and he too was just a “2 year wonder”, you asshole. And those 60 guns the tact team got out of that house the other day, those could’ve been used against us, so I’m glad they banged that door down and got those guns, maybe it saved my life, yours, or anyone of our brothers and sisters in blue. But, our lives just aren’t worth it to you, scumbag.
If the trooper or his family reads these comments, what he did matters, what he does everyday matters, it is worth it. I hope he makes a full recovery and is back at it again in the future, we need more men like him. May god bless him and you.
