Here's an Idea

The FOP nor the PBPA cannot advocate for a job action. It's in the Contracts, it would violate Ordinances, and it would trigger certain sanctions against the organizations.

But we can propose a certain....course of action. This wouldn't be a job action, but rather a health action.

Commenters have proposed that in the face of repeated denials of Regular Days Off being maintained, Officers who don't want to work every single weekend through September, put in for an unpaid day off. We've looked into it and asked a few persons to look into it and it seems pretty straightforward.

It used to be on a PAR Form - Absent Without Pay. Now it's all electronic and it looks legit.

Find this:

The PER-73 attachment looks like this:

As long as the "Leave of Absence" is under 29 days, it seems there's pretty much nothing they can do about it. You won't be paid, but the dollar hit is easily absorbed by any Mandatory OT you choose to work. We're told Insurance penalties don't kick in until you're absent 30 days. There may be a seniority hit, but unless there are a significant number of people from your class in your unit, how far do you move down the furlough bid list? And best of all, it's not the Medical Roll, so you don't have to go to HQ to get released.

Can you imagine if there was a trial run of five or even ten officers per District who dropped these forms prior to the next Mandatory OT date? Is that Lolla? Or Billiken/Air and Water Show? And then a few hundred did it for the DNC? Conehead would be hospitalized with panic attacks for weeks and exempt heads would explode across the Department.

We aren't slaves after all. If you can absorb the paycheck ding for a chance to make a huge statement to the a$$holes in charge, why not take the leap?

Sure. You can’t get these idiots to even vote in mayoral, fop, or pension board elections but we’ll all band together and start giving up money to “send a message”.

If you do take a LOA keep track of the number of days you take. They will be deducted from your time of service for pension benefits. Same as if your police power is suspended due to a CR#

Always looking for "creative" ways to stick to make a point... when the best one is right smack in front of us, and it wouldn't cost us a thing.. from $$ to possible discipline.
Just Stop Being Proactive.. Period!
But no..... cops can't even stick together and accomplish that!
All this talk about not wanting your RDOs and weekends canceled, Yet cops jump at any opportunity to work voluntary OT no matter how days in a row it is.
Then there is the ones that have 1, 2 or even 3 side gigs they work before or after their tours and then on their RDOs... so hush with all the I hate this dept for canceling my days off. Oh yea prove it then and start working, or not working, like you want to send a message.
Until then ... let's the cash register ring ching ching ching

This is perfect!

Not a job action. Not using/abusing the medical for an ailment whether officially diagnosed or otherwise. Simply exercising an option as it exists on the official Department PAR Form.

Now the big question: will those who chronically complain about forced OT, mandatory RDO’s canceled and inhumane scheduling have the balls to drop the hammer on this ‘nuclear option’?

On its face, this seems to be a loophole which will allow the relief many seek with the unintended consequence (wink, wink) of driving it balls deep into the balloon knot of The Machine that doesn’t give fuck the first about the well-being of its police officers.

So… calling all big talkers who’ve had enough bites of the CPD shit sandwich. Here’s your legit way to get the R & R you so sorely need. And as far as the lost wages? As stated, you’ll be able to make that up later. And perhaps the FOP will step up and pass the hat for anyone affected.

You all talk the talk. Time to walk the walk, CPD’s Finest.

The obvious question I have is,
Can this LOA request be denied by someone in your chain of command?
I.e., can some bosshole torpedo this or is it non-negotiable due to it being unpaid leave?

Wouldn’t the only issue with that be in delaying your actual date of retirement by as many days as you request cumalitvely (4, 8, 20, etc)? Similar to a leave of absence? Granted it’s not a big deal if you do it a few times, but if you have 5 or 10 years left to go and seeing as canceling regular days off has been a regular practice for the last 5 years - it could stack up over the years. I get it’s really a health issue, but I think officers should at least know the answer to that question, so they aren’t hit with a surprise at the end of their careers.

Why not you ask? I’ll tell you why. Because 95% of the people on the job today are spineless cowards who are only good at running their mouth. Surely there’s a direct correlation between the fact that 95% of the people on the job today have less than 7 years. The TikToc Police are sheep who still live with their parents, they’ve not gonna make waves. They talk a big game but choke when asked to make a play. They’re all “go along to get along”. It’s what CPD has become.

Superintendent Snelling at times you have to step in and make decisions for Christ sake. All hell is breaking loose and you haven't said or done anything. It's not enough for you to attend events and taking photos. You should be putting out these internal fires to keep the peace on both sides. Taking the approach of "I'll just keep quiet and let it pass over" isn't working. Hein and his desk dollies obviously don't know how to grant RDOs utilizing reverse seniority. He's taking the lazy incompetent approach by denying everyone's requests to retain their RDOs,

Here's an idea file a federal lawsuit and have the right to strike heard in federal court and while we're at it do the same for residency. Ya see we can keep playing games and defense or go in the offense and send a message. It can also be used as a bargaining chip.

1. it is easier to hit medical--3 days for cold/flu--no MD note required to Return to Duty. Dont bother "reporting to medical section" the second day--just call down and leave a message on their never answered phone.

2. FMLA has very specific rules and hoops to jump through. While the 30 days notice before it starts is optimal (not required)--outside specific documentation is needed and HR is AWFUL about getting the paperwork processed

Believe they can deny a “leave of absence.” Also be careful even if less than 30 days they can screw you with return to duty date, possibly have to retread through the academy. I also believe when you come back they can put you in any unit on any watch claiming current manpower needs etc. They may also make you take a physical or power test. Lots of things to consider. You’re basically a new employee coming back and if you plan on doing it over the DNC I would bet thousands of toothpicks that the Department would do everything in their power to screw with you.

How the media can continue to dissect every action taken by CPD and ignore that a 13,500 man department is at 8,000-ish bodies for what could be one of the most violent events in this city and countries history. To hear the Secret Service throw a little police department under the bus for THEIR colossal mistake in Pennsylvania is beyond disgusting. To think a city the size of Chicago can multi task a sea of 30,000 violent protesters and still maintain law and order in our neighborhoods is just unrealistic. Give the Anti-police Democrats what they condoned and funded at the St George Riots and take time to protect YOUR neighborhood and family. Use all our available tools to strongly send a message that we aren’t the Democrats whipping boys. If not enjoy your injuries, lawsuits and the eventual 6,000 person 12 hr day factory job the city wants us to be. I have no shame in hitting the medical nor do my coworkers we’re done after 25 years of abuse.

Too many true cowards on this job today. NO ONE will do this. NO ONE has the guts to stand up for themselves. For crying out loud half the new hires in the last five years are just happy they have a job. They have no sense of Chicago police traditions. They have no loyalty to this job stemming from the fact that they only took this job because they know it requires a minimal background check in order to be paid $87,000 after only 18 months. That’s these kids’ only motivation. The once proud Chicago Police Department of old that I as was as many others grew up with has been dead for 10 plus years. Good luck to anyone sticking around. I’m retiring very soon and I can wait to separate myself from this nightmare.

We no longer get FMLA comp time, the City will not allow us to acrew FMLA, they automatically pay you in cash once you hit the FMLA limit. When we had FMLA on the books, the city paid us for it and set into motion the pay at the FMLA overtime limit. So, I could be mistaken, but I do not believe any of us have FMLA overtime on the books any more and I have 28 years on the job and did go to court and have late arrests that added yo to approximately 33 hours per period back in the day, and I have no FMLA comp time on the books because they paid me for any acrewed time I had. But, I could be wrong maybe some people do still have some FMLA comp.

Once when W.C. was on furlough, and I was supposed to be acting Desk Sgt. for a month, for a WHACK JOB Lt. After one day of dealing with situation, I did PAR form, slid it under the D.C's door.

Next morning, Dist. Sect. called asking if I was o.k., (She was asking as a friend), I just said I was busy, she said enjoy your month.

W.C. called about 20 mins later, (Also asking as a friend) I assured him all was o.k.

Only one who bitched was Lt. who said I needed her permission, I showed her the form and pointed out I did not.

I was in my last year, had to wait until Jan. to retire, all worked out beautifully.

I referred to it as my practice retirement.

When in the hell are you people going to stop with this bullshit comment. When they talk about 13,500 that is ALL sworn from stupidintendent to the lowliest ppo. If you get off your ass and do some research you will see that there were 11,850 police officers contributing to the pension on 31Dec2023, 11,868 on 31Dec2022 and 12,182 on 31Dec2021. We have never been anywhere close to 8,000. And before you say something else stupid, only sworn police officers contribute to our pension. No civilians, no lockup keepers, no one else. If you want to know how many 9161 officers there are go to data warehouse and look it up. Then look up all the job title codes and write them down with your crayon and add them up on Texas Instruments calculator. Learn something and make it a productive day.

Goliath overlooked one small rock. At first opportunity, we break free and grab for it. It will not kill Goliath, but it will cause him to take notice and simultaneously give us time to escape for some free time and live to fight another day.

And, you call it jobbing the system! Well, I am all ears and have an open mind. Impart with your wisdom. Dazzle me with your brilliance. But, remember, Goliath and COPA do not give a fuck about us. So tell me, what is your plan?

If you're one of the pets you can just call and ask for SIF but you will have to write a lot of blue cards when you get back to make your master happy.

I'd be all over this if I was paid hourly with overtime, especially if it can't be cancelled like regular time off.

Work an 80 hour week, take an unpaid week. You make more than working two 40s and you still have paid time off for times you don't mind risk of cancellation.

"And, you call it jobbing the system! Well, I am all ears and have an open mind. Impart with your wisdom. Dazzle me with your brilliance. But, remember, Goliath and COPA do not give a fuck about us. So tell me, what is your plan?"

Do what people in the private sector do, go get another job. Or is this the only department that'll have your worthless ass?

You stay home and swear at the tv, drink alcohol, and complain and whine about the job. I’ll work a couple days of easy OT and make my money so I can keep my deffered comp maxed out and be able to send my kids to good schools and go on 3 vacations a year! It’s awesome. I earned my summer furlo so it is what it is. Looking to retire much earlier and enjoy life beyond Chicago and cpd. So yes, I’ll be flocking to overtime to achieve my goals and not sit at home crying and complaining. I worked a real job before this! Even with the cancelled days we get plenty and I mean plenty of time off.

If you knew how to manage your money you wouldn't have to work OT and still have all that and more.

As commander’s Secretary I expect to be addressed only as Mam at all times, the room will snap to attention when I enter. For roll call you’re to be dressed in your Sunday best and shoes will be spit shined. Everyone knows CPD is a real legit police department and we will conduct ourselves as such. See you all out there.

Who is the jagoff LT in the FOP book who had a copper stripped for not calling him “sir” after a disagreement with the officer over non-suiting tickets for the LTs friend? This LT needs to be outed.

7/15/2024 12:31:00 PM
There has to be more to the story!!How can you get stripped for not calling a Lt Sir

7/15/2024 06:55:00 PM

Old news from around 4-6 years ago. There is a lot more to the story and he was stripped for doing much more than not calling the Lt "Sir." The Lt is long retired and PO Maurice Anderson is softer than puppy shit. He has gotten at least 10 numbers on various people since then. Dude needs to retire asap or be psyched.

For many, this essence math is too difficult to process.

As are so many other things.

Work the job, don't allow the job to work you.

Any cancelled days off should shorten your retirement date/add to your seniority.

The city paid everyone all of thier accrued fmla comp time on books in about 2007 and won't let you accrue anymore. It was all part of the fmla time off lawsuit and the city paid it put to get the lawsuit dismissed. The story is too long for this post, but it's basically why you have the tour of duty exchange.

Wait....you mean only the city can violate the contract as they have and do often. Here's an idea file a federal lawsuit and have the right to strike heard in federal court and while we're at it do the same for residency. Ya see we can keep playing games and defense or go in the offense and send a message. It can also be used as a bargaining chip.

Huh!? Please, what would the cause of acruon? What envokes federal jusdiction?

I manage my money pretty well. You are assuming I do not because I like working easy overtime? I am hard working. I am assuming you are some fat dog ass on 2nd watch in 008. Still working patrol big guy? Never promoted? That must suck and explains why you are a miserable know it all dog on days in 8.
