What?

Crimesha dropped all charges?

  • Video recorded by a Chicago police officer’s body camera shows tense moments as he confronts a man who refused to comply with orders to put down a handgun he was holding. At one point during the April 24 encounter, the man even slapped away one of the officer’s outstretched hands while the cop’s other hand was pointing a pistol at him.

Prosecutors initially charged the man, Maurice Merritt, with multiple felonies. But, one month later, they dropped the entire case, records show.

A CWBChicago reporter came across Merritt’s arrest report during a routine check of recent court filings. Because the details sounded interesting. Everybody has seen horrible videos of people getting shot in similar situations, but the public doesn’t often see the countless times that armed confrontations end without injury. So, we requested the body camera records from CPD through a Freedom of Information request in May. CPD provided the videos on Tuesday.

So he:

  • performed an Armed Robbery and was identified by the victim
  • caught and resisted, committing a Battery to PO
  • claimed to have a "fake" gun for protection while selling weed
  • with numerous bullets
  • had felony weight of weed
  • was on felony probation for PCS

And Crimesha dropped all charges and her office is refusing to answer CWB inquiries.

Unless the case went Federal, what the actual f#$%?

Did the officer appear in court? If not, did the officer's partner appear in court? After watching the video, it looks like many officers went on the arrest report, so any of them could have gone to court to ensure that the case would not be dropped for lack of a witness.

Retired sergeant with a star on my sleeve here, and reflecting on last few years, too many times POs would ask to go in the absentee book without a good reason for missing court. Most common reason given was, "I don't want to go." That was an unacceptable excuse when I was a PO. It's unacceptable today. And it was in the orders. The integrity of our profession demands we show up to court when called to.

Sadly, when I would tell officers that you can't miss court without a good reason or without contacting someone else to go, they would just go to another sergeant who didn't give a crap. Those are the sergeants who wanted to be your friends and not your supervisors. When sh<t hit the fan though, those were not the same sergeants they went to.

I am a long retired Peace Officer here out West, who had 28 years on the job. I did not work in an urban battleground like Chicago, so that has to be taken into account.

However, why is anyone left working there when this is the norm, as it seems to be? If you are a cop, I assume that your certification/commission or whatever y'all call it back there is good statewide. It strikes me that the time is ten times overpast for any good cops to go elsewhere than Chicago. I will grant that if you are too close to retirement, you might have to stay, but keep your head down and let the less than good citizens of Chicago live in the world they created.

JD Vance admitted he 'hates cops' & called Trump a 'morally reprehensible human being' in bombshell emails to classmate

JD Vance once told a Yale Law School classmate that he hated the police and that Donald Trump was a "morally reprehensible human being," according to reports.

The classmate Sofia Nelson handed over up to 90 messages and emails Vance and they shared from 2014 to 2017 to the New York Times.

Nelson's primary purpose for leaking the text messages and emails is to "inform the opinion of voters about Mr. Vance," Nelson said.

The messages revealed Vance's alleged stance on his now-running partner Donald Trump and his openness to accept Nelson, who is transgender.

In 2014, Vance shared his thoughts on police after the killing of Michael Brown, a Black 18-year-old, by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

"I hate the police. Given the number of negative experiences I've had in the past few years, I can't imagine what a black guy goes through," Vance allegedly said in an email to Nelson.

This shouldn’t be celebrated. Wait to be fired upon and only allowed to respond lethally if the offender is actively firing at you. As soon as he stops, you must assess the situation. In between each shot, you must assess if he still has bullets. You’re only allowed to shoot back if he is in the action of firing. The 0.08 second it takes to cycle the slide is the only time you are actively be shot at and therefore the threat is imminent. Any other time it is not imminent. You have 0.08 seconds to respond. If you respond too slowly, your life was no longer in imminent danger and therefore you are in violation of department policy.

They are not high or retarded. Government is about checks and balances, IL congress can vote to remove an elected official by articles of impeachment, the governor and Illinois attorney general can also petition congress with articles of impeachment against an elected official, there is also the avenue of judicial proceedings. Just because you are elected official doesn’t make you untouchable. It’s all spelled out in article 4 of the Illinois constitution. Reasons an elected official can be impeached or have judicial proceedings filed against them include misconduct, neglect of duty, or criminal activity.

Do people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, still hold onto the same beliefs they did when they were in their 20s?

Vance's emails only show that he has evolved as an adult, a husband, a father, a friend, a professional out in the world. Those who try to use his old emails as some way to discredit Vance are reaching for straws and are themselves disingenuous. If anything, his old emails make me like him more.

Now as far as not arresting people in order to keep your job/home/freedom, that's another story.
