Yes, we've been posting A LOT about New Orleans. Maybe even more than a lot. But we warned you when we started this blog that politics was a passion of ours, and we follow politics very VERY closely. This is politics. And as the mayor hasn't been indicted yet, local politics seems scarce. Besides, the ads did say something about "a healthy interest in the world at large."
Anyway, we shall take a short break from politics and instead post this open thread for people to rant on. Go for it.

We hearby declare this the "Worst bosses thread." Nominee number 1 - Lieutenant Elizabeth Olson. What a head case. Made captain, lost captain. Used to be the queen of the watch parties (or so we heard) Tried to release a police impersonator because he promised not to do it again and the street deputy had to come in and relieve her of her command. What a witch.

I know it was discussed briefly, but this $7 million dollars a year a keep millennium park open is really bugging me. I know the park and the art work are fantastic, but you have to wonder when people are being laid off and the city is supposedly in financial trouble to the point where paper is being rationed in districts, overtime is being cut to the point where investigations are being compromised, and there aren't enough P's to go around if this isn't excessive. Remember this is $7 million a year forever, plus you have to add in the cost of inflation. Dis anybody think of this when they were b the park? Now they want to raise taxes and run more businesses out of the city.
I know this was discussed briefly too, but, Bobby Rush is a racist ( and worse where cops are concerned) . Al Sharpton is a racist. Jesse Jackson Sr. is a racist. The North Side Alderwoman who blamed Latins for trashing her ward is a racist. How can they get away with saying things like the reason help was so slow in getting to N.O.How because most of those needing rescue are black? Rev. Meeks is a racist too! How come no one ever calls them on this? I would like just once for someone with authority to get on the news and call the kettle black.
This too. Where are our gas masks and other emergency equipment we're suppose to have? It's great that OEMC can watch everything that is happening. They will probably watch a lot of coppers and firemen die if we ever get hit with a terrorist attack. Where is our homeland security training?

He said the Sgt from 5 who stopped Meeks was found justified by OPS for displaying his weapon and holding the driver for a 1/2 so he could receive his tickets by a po. (CBS) NEW ORLEANS New Orleans police are getting backup from Chicago police officers, who've come to help their colleagues restore order in the stricken city.
CBS 2's Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports from Mandeville, outside New Orleans, with a story of badges and brotherhood.
The familiar Chicago hundreds of miles from home is filled with officers who've seen just about everything, but not this.
What went through the mind of Chicago Police Officer Carl Suchocki when he entered New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina tore through?
“I was holding my jaw open and shaking my head. It was unbelievable," Suchocki said.
The officers are part of the newly commissioned Chicago police SWAT team, not due to hit the streets of Chicago until next week. But New Orleans asked, and Chicago sent its best.
”I think it shows the caliber of men that we have who volunteer to come here to leave their families to come here and help people they don’t even know. To put themselves in positions that nobody wants to be in, but then you stop and think we still have a place to go home to, our families are safe, and these people don’t have anything,” said SWAT team leader, Sgt. Jim Eldridge.
Tuesday's assignment brought them to New Orleans’ east side, still partially submerged, where they joined with FEMA workers from Arizona and Texas.
There are 22 men, heavily armed and protected, here to provide security for several of the search teams now fanning out all over the city.
They set up a perimeter surrounding the searchers, covering them when they approach the homes. With relief workers having been shot at in recent days, you can’t be too careful.
In this neighborhood most of the homes were empty, and those who remained took the officers' advice.
The Chicago officers are not sure how long they'll be here, and they are not too concerned about it.
“We're glad Chicago allowed us to come and happy to be here to help,” said Commander Wayne Guilliford.

Do not get me wrong here but I think the major desire here is to make a shit load of money. If they were that serious about helping out they would be doing it on their own time or on their furlough. Also, I would say helping out in the shelters or soup kitchens would be needed more

I've been in 005 for years and, yes, I have seen Cynthia White drive lots of people out of the District...every single one of them a dog who had been floating by doing nothing (or doing what they were doing wrong/illegal)
Ask the workers on her watch, the ones who know how to make good arrests and actually seek out activity, and none of them will be complaining.
I'm not trying to paint her as a saint...she can be a bit obsessive/compulsive and over diligent...but don't believe the rumors spread by somebody who heard from somebody...use your brain and judge by what you see for yourself...

True "Jag-Off Joe" Curtin story.
When Curtin was C.O., old Area 3 Homicide, he struts into the office one June day wearing a new straw hat. With that horse laugh of his, he starts bragging about how he bought it for only $3.98 at an Archer Avenue sidewalk sale in Brighton Park.
Several dicks go to the same sale and buy two identical hats, one size too small, the other a size too large.
After snipping the size tags out of all 3 hats and for the remainder of the summer, we would alternate the hats on Curtin's hat hook. After several weeks, he started mumbling to himself that he head was shrinking. Next his head was growing too big.
Even after Labor Day, the asshole never figured it out. We had to bite our tongues to contain our laughter.
I am the one who posted the above "defenses" of captain White (and anyone else who is judged by rumormongers). Rather than being completely "anonymous" I'll use this name from now on.

You know what I would like to see blown up all over the news like the hired truck scam is the city of Chicago’s animal control department. Talk about a waste of tax payers money, the second largest city in the u.s. and only 1 animal control truck working Monday through Friday. And if your a copper asking for help catching a vicious dog on a weekend or holiday forget it. There response is "no trucks available" I would like to see an investigation into the stat's on how many employee's they have and how many on each watch and how many trucks are supposed to be on the street. I absolutely guarantee the hole department is one huge ghost payroll.
Capt White got caught stealing, ratted out her fellow officers, and got promoted for just that. These are facts, and in as much as this is still America, there ain't a damm thing she can do about the truth

I heard those "Rumors" too, believed them for a while actually, until I got to work with her and saw how she lived her life. Don't live your life based upon what others tell you...think for yourself.
I don't claim to know what happened in 002. I wasn't there, and I'm guessing you weren't either. But I've heard both side of the story, and I have actually been told some of the lesser known details of the incidents (actually by someone who doesn't like Captain White, but is still honest) and I've formed an educated opinion of my own, not one given to me by someone else...

Well, CK, I can say I've personally seen Capt. WHITE get CR #'s after asking a prisoner if he (she) has been abused. There was no mark on the prisoner just someone arrested for some BS charge and brought into 005.
I've seen her accuse officers of mistreating a prisoner that wasn't. I've seen her intervene in other watches' arrests, hours after the arrest, and obtain a CR # on another watch. I've seen her get a CR # on her own lock-up crew after seeing a cigarette in the prisoner's cell, even though he was taken in a previous watch.
Finally, how come no boss was indicted in the 002 business? You mean only P/O's were taking the gamblers' money? Who was the last honest cop who came forward and volunteered to expose corrupt officers? Don't get me wrong, dirty coppers should go to jail, but are you going to volunteer to out them?
Come on, wise up! She was working for a boss who was dirty and she wore a wire so she wouldn't go to jail. She cares more about the citizen than the officer. And no, I was not someone for whom she obtained a CR # against.

In my two decades on the job the worst boss I've seen is Capt. White. Like the previous poster stated she could care less about the troops and would get a CR # against a department member knowing the allegation to be false.
I'll add a White story of my own. A few months back she had a two-man unit, one of them a recruit fresh from Academy, guard separate prisoners at Roseland Hospital. One of the bad guys had a history of disarming the police and battery to a P/O.
You guessed it! When one of the P/O's stepped out for a moment, the guy attempted to disarm the P/O. Luckily a CFD paramedic came to the officer's aid or it would have been bad. White covered her butt on that one though.
"Cmmdr." Neil Sullivan!! Worked for him 1 yr at summer mobile when he was a Lt. what a drunken jackass!

I can't believe someone is actually defending Cynthia White! It's either White herself, or one of the people she's covering for all these years. You know she had to hold back something on someone to get all those promotions, because there is no way in hell only POs got caught up by her wearing a wire. There isnt a boss on this job who'd promote her knowing what she did unless she held back for some heavies. I heard that as these guys she put away got out of prison, they're stopping by the 5th district to say hello. Shes posted a bunch of their pictures around and ordered the desk to arrest them if they show up in the station. Shes running scared that they're going to remind everyone that she was as bad as they were.

Sep. 7, 2005 - The nights bothered Toni Blanco the most, though they also offered a bit of escape. In a police car, she and fellow detective Alecia Wright could shed their police reserve and share a good cry.
"Many times we laid in the car and tears just rolled," Blanco said. "We talked about how this ever came to be and what would become of everyone."
They had lived for days in the Superdome amid the same stench and misery shared by 25,000 others who sought refuge from Hurricane Katrina's battering winds and ensuing flooding. The only difference was they had a badge, some guns, and supposedly some authority.
Being a cop, though, didn't matter much in the arena. They couldn't arrest anyone because there was no place to put them. The few revolvers they had wouldn't be nearly enough to control the crowd if things got really out of hand.
A few days after getting out of the now-empty Superdome, they went back Tuesday to take a second look.
Little had changed since the Superdome was emptied Saturday of the last of its temporary occupants. Personal effects were scattered everywhere and the relatively new field that normally is home to the New Orleans Saints was littered with debris. The place still reeked of human waste.
"The pictures or the television can't show the stench, the smell of urine and water mixed on the floors, the feces," Blanco said. "It was unimaginably horrible."
Blanco, who has been on the force for 24 years, is deputy commander of the New Orleans Police Department's sexual crimes unit. Wright is one of the unit's detectives.
Together they dealt almost daily with the kind of crimes that are difficult to stomach, and comforted victims who had been violated in the most personal of ways.
Nothing, though, prepared them for five days in the dome when they and about four dozen other officers were supposed to keep order amid chaos. On the first night, a man threw himself to his death from the plaza level. There were rumors of sexual assaults, but the police could hardly investigate under such conditions.
It was too wrenching for some officers. They fled through the floodwaters, leaving those remaining stretched even thinner.
"You felt helpless in the sense there was absolutely nothing we could do for the city," Blanco said. "I'd just tell people that we just have to have hope in the Lord."
On Tuesday, a Superdome official insisted there were no plans to tear down the building, saying it would take up to two months to assess the damage. But after their tour, the detectives were in no hurry to return. It was time to put it away once again.
"We say it jokingly now, but I think we're eventually going to need some counseling after this," Blanco said.
I am a hard-working policeman who worked for C.W. for a couple of years. She drove hard workers out at an even greater pace than she drove the mutts out. Not to mention that she also tried to obtain CR#'s on workers when she thought they were in violation of general orders, even when they were not. She is the most dangerous kind:Dumb and thinks she is smart, with authority. And I have first hand knowledge that she does go through the lockup and doing what she has been accused of. Beyond that, she has taken the word of those charged with felonies over her hard working policemen! I have seen it too many times!
All bosses are nice all bosses are buttholes. Who cares. If we all stuck together, and went to work, answered our calls, and went home, we all would be happier. Non the less maybe evern a close nit team.
Why go out there and hunt out crime to have someone crap all over you? Answer your calls, do your job and thats it. Nobody bothers me, and I get off when ever I want. Just think.... 4500 coppers just shoping up at work to drive around and use up dick heads daleys gas. Just let it go and watch it change. But then again, we dont have any team work ethics on this department. Be safe.
Hmmm. Area Two leads the city in homicides. The districts in Area Two have the worst bosses in the whole city, especially in 005. Many have obtained CR numbers on Police Officers and Detectives who work there. I'd bet that 005 leads the city in Agg Batts and also Homicides.
Hey Cline and Starks!! Maybe you could replace some of these bosses (AKA the aformentioned ones). Then maybe the Officers wouldn't mind finding and arresting the Bad Guys, like they are supposed to. Or maybe I should tell Rev Meeks that you frequently send south side beat cars to the west side where crime is already down like 50%. When was the last time anyone seen Beat 1112 patrolling Roseland?? Or Beat 1523 arresting someone in the 003rd District. Obviously you don't give a rat's ass about the south side. I'd even go to his church to tell all his people the truth. He may even get a hug out of me.
And when Jesse Jr runs for mayor, he'd have my vote if he promised to add 3 beats to the 22nd District and make sure they are ALWAYS 10-4. And divide 2211 into two beats. Plus get rid of those stupid seat belt missions in the districts. Let's see...hold a car down on a tvb...or have them available for a "shots fired" or "person with a gun" call. Phil says tvb. I'd even put his sign on my front lawn and help him campaign. (Of course if he was elected, I'd have to get a merit Det or Sgt spot). This 35st desk jopb isn't all it's cracked out to be.

Hello Sir and Thank You for taking the time to read this email. I am a Chicago Polie Detective who lives in the 19th Ward. I am so sick of the "politics" that take place in this great city of ours. I was hoping that you would take consideration to run for Mayor of Chicago in the next election. As you know, our current Mayor is under investigation by the Federal Government. You seem to be the only honest and viable opponent to run against him. Believe me when I tell you that most Police Officers HATE Daley with a passion.
On busy nights, Superintendent CLINE sends one south side beat car to the west side for added patrol. The west side is already down tremendously in crime. But in Rev Meeks neighborhood, it is rampant. Go figure. Crime in the 19th ward is at an all-time high. Yet there is no beat car to patrol the area.
I am turning to You Sir because You are a person of integrity. If You do decide to run, You have my full support. The 19th ward is a tough wall to crack. I don't mean to bring race into it but I am white. And You have at least one supporter, campaigner, donor right here if you choose to run.
Let's strike when the iron is hot. Believe me I can talk to many people about your integrity and honesty. No more hired truck scandals. No more minority firms getting the shaft.
I am being honest and sincere about You running for Mayor. I have many friends on the CPD and can convince them about Your value to this City. I know we won't have the same opinion on many political views, but I feel we both love this City and wish to make it better.

Having a long memory, and having seen many, if not most, of the above named candidates in action,
the list would be incomplete without the name of George SAMMS at its head. Best described by a retired homicide sergeant, now living in Florida, as a "Malicious Incompetent", he was the absolute worst of all! As far as who is currently the worst active boss, it's sure to be a very large running field, with a very crowded photo finish!

Don't confuse former IAD head George SAMMS with the late George T. SIMS, Jr., former commander of the old Fillmo'(011). To this day, SIMS is a role model for all bosses.
You should be so fortunate to be blessed with a boss that is even half the leader that SIMS was. He will always be remembered as a stand-up, "first guy in the door" guy. Many, myself included, would go to Hell and back for a boss like George SIMS.
mary rozelle is a fuckin idiot, i am getting sued because because she released a retired copper go who's piece of shit son was the subject of a search warrant and the father took the weight for what we found but she released him w/o charging now were being sued. I am surprised at you. George Sims was as dirty as they come. He got TONS of money from West Side dope dealers and that's a fact! For new guys, SIMS was a boss over 25 years ago! He may have treated the troops alright but he was "on the pad" as they used to say in the old days. Remember the P/O who went to the pen becuase he wouldn't flip on Sims?

That asshole Curtin had a negative effect on all of us at 025. It was only for two weeks after the double murders of two of our very best--Greg Hauser and Ray Kilroy that Curtin acted like a human being.

Hope that you all realize that the last lawsuit filed against the promotion testing process wanted all promotions made on the basis of "merit". The rumblings downtown are that this will come to pass. In addition, I propose that any boss who gets hired as an "expert" by the testing companies be forbidden from running a study group unless that study group is open to all members. If murder is down by 25%, shouldn't you have more people working on fewer cases. You think that would lead to more clearances. You can't lead people if they won't follow. We're not a bunch of 25 year old kids. Shitting on us won't motivate us.

Re: the CPD Detective Division....when there is a Chief, Dep. Chief., etc., asking questions about a specific case, that's one thing; if they are asking/questioning about many cases, that's indicative of: a) they have no idea what's going on, i.e., they're not qualified to handle the position they're in; 2) they're trying to impress someone higher than themselves, who may also not have the experience/competence for the position that they're in;
3) many in the CPD are talking "accountability", i.e., New York P.D., but here in Chicago no boss of any consequence and/or incompentence gets dumped or re-assigned if his/her clout (clout= political, friendship, familial, gender, racial, inter-Department, etc.), is sufficient to save them from what would oridinarily occur in private industry. Politics has infected this city and the CPD for a long time, and has corrupted operations, asignments, and promotions within the CPD for as long as anyone can remember...
So this is the fate of the detective division. That means there is no hope for the future. The next generation of boses will all be the same. After Farrell Leaves, we're all fucked. He must be the last of the good bosses. I guess I'll do my time and get the hell out. The whole department is going to hell.

I think you should explain what an open thread is, because some people

Here's one to piss off the PO's living in the lovely 016th Dist... SOS Team did a search warrant up north (Touhy/Oriole area I believe) adn make a substantial recovery of powder cocaine and marijuana, plus two unregistered shot guns.... Commander of SOS is overheard in conversation with Cline and getting a bit of an ass chewing because "Doind search warrants in the 016th District is not part of this departments mission or focus. We have other areas to worry about, bringing down homicides for instance."
So, let me get this right Sup't....Providing police service or acting upon a tip from a credibile CI no matter where in the city it is, isn't our mission. I'll bet you that if the info was on the west end of 008 there would be no problem, but because it didn't happen in the precious DOC area or Englewood it isn't important...
When are we going to satnd up for ourselves and demand that our families our protected the way they should be while we are working? Sending officers from 016 to other districts because of their crime level is BS. I will admit that unfortunately a majority of officers in 016 are useless, but as it has been said before that is everywhere... However, why should they have their assist units, back-up and fellow officers sent all over the city when they are needed in our backyard... I can't believe that I'm even suggesting this, but all the PO's that live in 016 should flood their beat meetings and demand that the Commander and Deputy Chief attend and start making their life miserable until they realize we are not going to accept this practice any more

How about 2nd watch today in 016. Not one....not two but THREE downed beat cars today because 3 po's get send to some stupid pumpkin fest in 008. WTF. My own damn beat had NO police today.

Back to Capt. WHITE. Does everybody know that she lives "legally" in South HOLLAND, and not in West Pullman like she claims. Supposedly because of threats on her life due to her snitchin'. And the department gave her the OK. Ohhhh, too know what she is holding on to.

There's a Sgt. in the Academy, apparently with friends that work in the Gym, who passed the Fitness Test without taking it! 6'3", 400 lbs. and passed the Fitness Test! No he's NOT in shape. He was limited duty due to a heart condition until he learned he was going to be promoted to Sgt. Miraculously, he recovered from his heart condition to become promotted.
Now he passes the Fitness Test in order to be awarded with $250.00. My question is: Who were the testers, were they wearing glasses when he showed up?
Who was the Inspector that oversaw him taking the Fitness Test?
NO WAY that this Sgt. could have passed ANY PART of the Fitness Test!

Some shit on here is total bullshit. Rip on a guy when he's a jagoff and deserves to be ripped, but why fuck with peoples personal lives. Dont be a hater. Dont wory about a boss or even a p.o.'s personal life. Commander Roy has been nothing but a stand up guy since he came to 009. And especially during the last week or two with the problems on 3rd watch, he's been the best you could expect from a Commander. The problem is the W/C on 3rd Watch. Hopefully, things will change for the better. We hope Roy will make 3rd watch a better place to work in 009.
Sgt. Bland (his name describes him best). Worked a rapid in 08, was afraid yo go east of kedzie into high crime areas. anytime he got a call east of kedzide, always had an "unavoidable" tvb. gutless, know it all who will jam u up real quick.
