Stupid People

They're getting around to interviewing the injured from the Metra train crash and they're coming up with quotes like these:
  • Christine Barnes, 30, of Elmwood Park, said she is upset at the suggestion from transportation safety officials that motorists might be to blame for Wednesday's accident that injured at least 10 people and damaged 16 vehicles. - Via Channel 5
  • A woman hospitalized after her car was struck in last week's Metra train accident says she entered the busy intersection before warning signals went off and had no chance of avoiding the collision. - Via Channel 7
  • "Fix the problem, that's my message to the NTSB. Fix the problem," he said (husband of victim Christine Barnes). - Via Channel 2
Problems? The only problems here are (A) the village not synching up the traffic lights with the railroad signals and (B) idiots who think trains are going to stop to avoid collisions or swerve around them. NEWSFLASH - no one ever wrote up a train for being where it was supposed to be. There are like three controls on a train and none of them happens to be a steering wheel (forward, backward and brakes we think). Watch these idiots file a lawsuit.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and disagree with you on "A". I'd bet that those lights are synched up. The problem is that everyone has to be in such a hurry that they can't stop in front of the tracks, they have to get up on the tracks and wait for the lights to go green. If they don't and the gates come down, you're trapped. That is not a new intersection or a new railroad crossing, it is just the same stupid, clueless people that block intersections and any number of other things.

Who the hell sits on train tracks waiting for a light to change, even when the train lights aren't flashing?

(a) impatient morons
(b) drivers who received their license during the days when George Ryan was SOS
(c) future plaintiffs
(d) all of the above

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- More than two dozen gay Arab men -- arrested at what police called a mass homosexual wedding -- could face government-ordered hormone treatments, five years in jail and a lashing, authorities said Saturday.

The Interior Ministry said police raided a hotel chalet earlier this month and arrested 22 men from the Emirates as they celebrated the wedding ceremony.

Outward homosexual behavior is banned in the United Arab Emirates, and the gay group wedding has alarmed leaders of this once-isolated Muslim country as it grapples with an influx of Western residents and culture.

The Arabian peninsula, nevertheless, has a long tradition of openly homosexual wedding singers and dancers.

Police acting on a tip raided the hotel and found a dozen men dressed as female brides and a dozen others in male Arab dress, apparently preparing for a wedding ceremony, said Interior Ministry spokesman Issam Azouri.

''It was a real party with balloons and champagne,'' he said.

Azouri said the Interior Ministry's department of social support would try to direct the men away from homosexual behavior -- using methods including male hormone treatments, if the men are found to be deficient. AP

Did anyone note that even when they saw the gates go down and knew a train was coming that the injured people DID NOT GET OUT OF THEIR CARS AND FLEE! Apparently they thought their cars were trainproof.

I expect suits to be filed by the sharks these people will hire but wouldn't it be a nice change to see the railroad file suit against these people for damaging their train?

I am a single heterosexual police officer in my early 30's. I get a kick out of the homophobia displayed on this board. I make lemonade out of lemons. My view: I wish 99% of the male population was gay for selfish reasons. More pussy for me!

There is a white line about 100 Ft. from each railroad crossing. A vehicle may not pass beyond that line and enter the track area until the vehilce can clear the whole lenghth of the tracks. The same thing appplies to vehicle that enter an intersection. Since this didn't happen in Chicago and the NTSB is investigating watch for citations to be issued to each driver.

I know they are short of manpower arent we all and the east end isnt very nice anymore but how about a little more Homeland security.

I notice the first sentence in your comment emphasises the fact that you are heterosexual.

I believe the original post was intended to cast light on the people and culture we have been forced to deal with on a daily basis.

The original post was not intended as an opportunity to put yourself up on a pedestal because of your acceptance of homosexuality.

And if men were 99% gay, I still think you would have a hard time even though you are better than us.

To the 0917 post regarding 022.
GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE BASHING. Yes, 022 is getting hit with an increase in crime but I would say 90% of the recent vicious attacks have been cleared by arrests. We had a couple of different crews doing stick ups, they gone. Dunkin D's got stuck up a couple of times, set up a sting and he was caught, he gone. The Metra robberies they are all in custody, good police works also. The idiot who robbed Blockbuster, he was arrested. We do have burglars out there and we are working on them presently. Also you must live in 022 as I do, please bid/transfer here and give us a hand we need aggresive officers. But no, you will hide in your house mouse job @ 35th st.

What about the Charter one bank robbery, the Fairplay foods parking lot robbery and the little ceasers robbery and no all the metra robberies havent been cleared. Also clearing crime isnt the answer how about preventing it. Also cant bid into 022 it takes 12 years all you senior citizens are killing the district, Maybe I do work at 35 st. and thats how I know you are leading the city in medical abuse. those westernave and 95th st. cars are ghosts. you have 2 tact teams and 1 gang team that make arrests and your watches dont do shit. your calls for service are way up and so is almost every crime catagory. my point is we need more patrols but yes I will say the ones we get arent very effective

If you were ever the Police you would know it is impossible to stop or prevent the beasts from coming into 022 and doing robberies. The tact teams are normally tied up on bullshit nickel bag arrests due to bossess crying about the numbers game. The beat cars are taking silly reports all day and are very short handed. As far as medical role abuse you are correct and who is to blame? Not the working police of 022.

Give that cushy job to a 30 year vet who deserves it. And surely if you had juice to get there use it again and get to 022 on management like everyone else.

What kind of moron sits on train tracks waiting for the traffic signal? The same moron who enters the intersection when traffic is backed up -
I see stupid people - they're everywhere - they look just like you and me - and they don't even know they're dumb!

A few months ago I found myself on the tracks on 99th street. No train came by, but the bottom line was "I was stupid!" I wasn't paying attention and starting following traffic. My fault and no one elses. Any other time I approach a railroad crossing in slow traffic, I don't cross the tracks until there is enough room on the other side. It's not rocket science, it's just common sense.

Five cars stuck on the tracks? Sounds like nature was getting ready to cull the stupids. There will be lawsuits I'm sure, but as far as I can see, it is the stupid motorist, not the train. Trains run on tracks and can't go anywhere else....what do you expect?

The police in Elmwood Park should now write all the drivers who were on the tracks a mover. How stupid can one be! And don't forget the news people out there. They are just as stupid as some of the drivers. Saying: Metra did this and Metra did that and defending those morons like it was totally Metra's fault. Isn't there something in the Rules of the Road book about what driver's are to do when approaching or at a R.R. X-ing.

One of my personal driving pet peeves are vehicles that enter a gridlocked intersection which results in blocking intersecting traffic when the light turns green.

I certainly think that anyone who tailgates over a railroad track without safe clearance is a damned fool.

FACE IT 022 GIVES little or no service to the residents on the west end. If you want to see a squad on the west end just go to White Hen at 103 Artesian or 111th and Whipple. They eat and drink at those locations. Then dissappear back East. The only way to see a squad out West is call like the East end. So Call Call Call Call and Call. Then have your neighbors do the same. They need a reason to be out there. Otherwise they only fish for dime and nickle bags out East. I've called and it takes over half an hour for them to respond. Rugai (spelling) could give a rats behind about Mt. Greenwood so call, call, and call her useless office. Dont blame the 022nd dist police. they are just like every other dist in the city. Some good po's, some bad. The good ones dont want to be out West cause there is no "action" by comparison to the East. The best you can hope for is that they will pass through the neighborhood once or twice in a night before going out to where the majority of crime and easy pinches are. But what makes me sick is the constant patting on the back they give themselves on this blog with all their "good jobs in 022 last night" We know you dont do jack by comparison to 016 so quit giving yourselves handjobs when you make an arrest. "WHOOPIE!", now dirve around the neighborhood.
We all know the car does more work then you. When you drive around the neighborhood, the criminal sees it and hides or leaves. So we around the neighborhood would like to see you in the car for a change, driving in slow circles up and down the streets instead of sitting in White Hen all the time.

To above post: I live and work in 022 and would love to be able to patrol the west end daily. But at the end of the period somebody will post the activity and say that I am a doggass because I have less activity than others and my assignment will be terminated if I dont produce more activity. Then its back to the nickel bags. Also if you can make quality arrests in 022 you can work anywhere in the city. Who couldnt find arrests in places like 7, 4, 6, 3, 2 etc.. Alot of times there are very slim pickings. C Ya @ White Hen.

I work in Area Two and I think the 022 disrtrict 2nd and 3rd watch does very well with what they have to work with. Forget midnights except for a couple of cars that do very well. I hear on the radio the westend cars getting pulled of their beats all the time by the dispatchers. We try to help each other out. But the bottem line is, 022 and the rest of the patrol division needs more live bodies to do the job.
