Tax Time Question

We use Al Capone's tax preparer. He came highly recommended, seems to know his way around things and we always try to emulate our political masters who are often caught hanging around members of "the Outfit."

In the latest FOP newsletter on page 6 (little red box in the top right), the union stated that "All Active Members Paid $414.00 in Union Dues For The Year 2006." Leaving aside that it should probably read "2005," we added up all of our check stubs, including the union dues out of the retro check and came up with a completely different number about $20 dollars higher.
Any explanations?

The FOP gives their union dues back to the Board of Directors at the end of the year (Nice Christmas Gift). What will the two new Sgts. receive at the end of the year? Are the two new Sgts. going to stay on the FOP Board? What is Donahue's position about the Sgts. being on the Board. One made it legit - the other got promoted on the company. How are the new Sgts. going to impose discipline on the rank and file and then discuss disciplinary actions against patrol officers at the Board meetings? $10,000 a year of your FOP money going to the Sgts. on the Board. Call the Lodge. Tell Donahue and crew that Sgts. should not be on the Board!

Well, if FOP made a mistake about how much dues were paid, can you imagine what FOP's tax returns look like? IRS should do an audit on FOP's books to see how legit they really are in reporting or in their case, non reporting income!!! Heard in the past Donahue filed a fraudulent tax return for 2001 or 2002, and then amended it when someone beefed. There was a recent article posted on the blog a few weeks ago about a Mayor conduting an audit on the FOP in his city, Hmmmmm! Are you reading this Mr. Mayor! Perhaps City Hall is not the only corrupted entity. Something to ponder!!!!

Seems as though Daley is covering the lack of applicants by buying us cars that run thousands of plates per hour...now if they could get some kind of Knight Rider/K.I.T.T. mode on them so they show up and save us when we are outnumbered or outmuscled in a fight, that'd be swell!

On Thursday, Mayor Daley took the wraps off the $85,000 Chevrolet Tahoe that he said he hopes may someday replace all 3,000 Chicago Police squad cars.

"The great thing about anti-crime technology is that it increases our crime-fighting capacity without hiring new personnel so the taxpayers get more law enforcement for each dollar."

I'm interested in the knowing what our dues are paying besides over paid salaries, Bella burgers, & Donahue donuts. Another suggestion would be to audit their personal tax returns, especially if there was a discrepency on Donahue's taxes a few years ago. BTW, What was the problem with his return in 2001 or 2002? The Dude Factor

There was a naroctics jury trial at 26/Cal going on the last couple of days and a particular 011th District P.O. took a liking to a "potential" juror prior to the trial. Well it turns out that "dude" lays the rap on ol' girl and slips her his phone number and tells her to call him. Well low and behold she is picked for the jury trial that he is going to testify at. Does he think that it might be a little important to tell someone, ASA, judge or sheriff about this little problem. NOPE, not a word to anyone. So he testifies, and during deliberations the 11 of the jurors were talking about this particular officers credibility on the stand, one of the jurors says something to the effect of feeling sorry for his wife, and ole girl that he hits on says "he's not married" The other jurors look at her and ask her how she knows this, and she tells them that he asked her out and gave her his digits. They all erupt in anger and the Sheriff has to quell the argument and when he learns what occurs, the ASA's and PD are advised and the judge, female, is told what occurred and she is furious. Well guess what.....they all get together in the Judge's chambers and the judge calls the officer on his cell phone (VIA SPEAKER PHONE), he answers and she tells him who she is. She asks him ablut asking the juror out and would you believe that he asctually denied doing this, to the JUDGE.. What an idiot. Then when she tells him that they got his phone number from her off of the piece of paper he wrote it on he goes....."oh, (gulp) her...yes I did ask her out. The judge declared a mistrial and gave dude a tongue shalacking as well. The ASA's had to Nolle Pros the case because there was no way that they could ever put P.O. DUDE back on the stand in front of the same judge. Can you believe this idiot. He better not hedge all of his bets and activity on dope anymore, most of the cases end up in this particular judge's room. He has lost all credibility with her, and the ASA'a. Oh, by the way idiot boy IS married....doh....guess you better stick to the hood rats in 011 and leave the jurors at 26th street alone.

I/F Forever
Congrats Yosh!!

Several Chicago Police Officers founded the Latin American Police Association in 1961. At that time there was only a handful of Hispanics on the Chicago Police Department. This was due in part to subtle discrimination, such as the imposition of a minimum height requirement,

HAPCOA, the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association, established in 1973, is the oldest and largest association in the U.S. of Hispanic American command officers from law enforcement and criminal justice agencies at the municipal, county, state and federal levels.

He is also a member of the Harvard Club of Chicago, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Mexican-American Police Association (MAPA), and the Latin-American Police Association (LAPA).

So we privatize the jail! That is the stupidest idea I've ever heard.

Do you know what privatization means? It means the lowest bidder. People make less money, have less accountability, have less incentive to do the right thing. You think it's bad now, wait until the $9.00 an hour jail guards come into play. That is the nightmare.

The answer is accountability and screening, and more money. And NO, I am not a correctional officer, I'm CPD. I know I wouldn't want to do that shit job, but if I did, I wouldn't do it for some shit wage.

You get what you pay for. If you don't pay for (and screen) for quality people, why would you think you'd get quality results?

When Nolan was president of the FOP they were paying about $150,000.00 for our yearly calendar books now they pay less than half for them and they are made better with a spring binder. One has to wonder how a contract drops 1/2 price with constant costs rising?

Sounds like the word didnt trickle down. At that time he said you needed about 15+ years but he said that the old timers would cancel out when they found out they were going to the south or west side districts to work or it was suppose to be real cold or rainy.

O.K. I have to start by asking does anyone remember when the F.O.P. bought our building?

For years I have been hearing stories regarding how a former trustee made money by purchasing the building and holding it for a couple of months, then selling it to the F.O.P.

So tonight I went to the Cook County Recorder of Deeds web site, and checed out the property.

According to the off ice of the Honorable Assessor of Cook COunty, the P.I.N. for the parcel is 17-08-327-038-0000.

Under that P.I.N. no Warranty Deed has been recorded, although a Deed in Trust (Mortgage) was recorded.

Under the adjoining P.I.N. a ONE MILLION DOLLAR MORTGAGE was entered into on July 5, 2002.

Did I miss something?

Why did we need a million in 2002?

Is that when Mark & Co. took over?

Also, who owns the building, if it is in a land trust as it appears, has anyone ever checked to see who holds the beneficial interest in the land trust.

Also, does anyone have any knowledge as to who owned the building prior to the F.O.P.

Just curious?

the above post about the ownership/1million mortage are good questions. I at one time heard that the property was purchased for under 500K. So I can understand refinance for remodeling cost ie rolling that debt into a mortgage. But 1 mill in '02? Interesting...

Was at the Credit union today, and was wondering why interest rates are so high? Especially when you only loan to the Police, and when loans are taken out of your check? (at least mine was) Guess you gotta pay for that new fancy building somehow. Not being degree'd in finance but its seems reasonalbe in my thinking that you gotta charge higher interest rates to your clients for the privelige and convienence of their services.

Your probably smarter that this lowly blue shirt. Am I correct here?

You guys are nuts. The FOP does an O.K. job these days. When the city offered us a shitty contract and Bill Nolan told us to take it, that was corrupt. I'm not saying Donahue is any genius, but he's smart enough to go to an arbitrator a lot faster then we have gone in the past. THE ARBITRATOR IS GOING TO GIVE YOU THE BEST CONTRACT YOUR GOING TO GET. THAT'S IT. Everyone is paying more for health care so I don't know what to tell you there. As far as residency is concerned your gonna have a hard time with that. NO MAYOR, BUT NO MAYOR is going to let us and the rest of the city workers go without some MAJOR concessions. It's hard for anyone to even get a handle on how many cops are even willing to make concessions to get out of residency.
Last but most importantly hardly anyone on this job even shows up for FOP meetings. There are so few people who go it's not even funny.
The reason I believe so few people go is that so many believe they're going to get promoted or win the fucking lottery that they don't need to worry about the FOP until they're ready to chapter 11.

You need some kind of bargaining agent to negotiate your contracts! Does anyone seriously think the city would give you a good deal?
If not the FOP, they you will have to look at who is available? PAPB, Teamsters, AFSME. They all want your dues in the beginning, then they forget about you. The only way to have a solid union is for the 10,000 or 12,000 of us to go to the meetings every month. The members make the union, not the name. Weak members, weak union. The same 100 to 120 show up every month and most of those are the reps. You cannot and you will not get any respect untill large numbers start going to the meetings.

O'kay let's play devil's advocate here. CPD rules and regulations cite a sworn officer is not to have any associations with convicted felons. Hmmm!!! Are you thinking what I'm thinking? It's time the U.S. Attorney's investigate the comings and goings of the F.O.P. for the last 15 years. There is more to this fraternity than just the good ole boys..

TO: "I'm not saying Donahue is any genius, but he's smart enough to go to an arbitrator a lot faster then we have gone in the past. THE ARBITRATOR IS GOING TO GIVE YOU THE BEST CONTRACT YOUR GOING TO GET. THAT'S IT.

Last but most importantly hardly anyone on this job even shows up for FOP meetings. There are so few people who go it's not even funny.
2/10/2006 09:47:37 PM"

Excuse me, but could you refresh my memory as to how much better we came out by going to arbitration on this last contract like we did! Oh, wait, there were no significant improvements by the arbitrator, we just had to wait a tad longer for the contract!!!

I'd be happy if they made some solid inroads on the health care issues for us and for the retirees (where we will all be, hopefully), that should be important to each of us.

As far as people going to the meetings - most meetings barely have enough people to vote on anything. The only ones that are there are the unit reps and watch reps and more than a few go, just to get half their dues back at the end of the year. For those of you who have gone, did you ever notice that anytime someone brings up something, the answer is, we're meeting with someone next week about that. This FOP administration is so un-proactive, that it is pathetic, but few of the membership really cares.

Criminal's worst nightmare: high-tech cars

On Thursday, Mayor Daley took the wraps off the $85,000 Chevrolet Tahoe that he said he hopes may someday replace all 3,000 Chicago Police squad cars.

"The great thing about anti-crime technology is that it increases our crime-fighting capacity without hiring new personnel so the taxpayers get more law enforcement for each dollar."

Thats a truck body right? Dont forget no Vehicle chases, so lets hope that the stolen car is not moving, or occupied. So thats another piece of equipment thats absolutly useless for crime fighting. Unless you consider parking tickets crime.

You wouldn't have to worry about increased health care benefits, if your greedy co workers didn't want a few extra bucks for uniform allowance, you used to have FREE BENEFITS !!!but that few extra bucks, whoopeee for uniform, now see what you pay in health. And this residency bitch, well guess what everyone I know living in the surrounding burbs pays unbelievable about in property taxes, blows the doors off of city dwellers. They pay for garbage pickup, in some cases every bag, water, sewers etc on top of 7 g's in taxes on a modest home. If they do lift residency do you think they are going to let you move out of Cook County!?! Look around out there, where are you going? Burbank, Niles ? Lisle, Naperville, they're in DuPage, the city only copies what other depts do, they never have a free thought. All the burb coppers live in thier respective counties. Choose your battles here folks, you had a great brotherhood, founded by coppers, ran by coppers
better than any other union in the city, sure corrupt folks get in, stop complaining vote them out. You will never get back that free medical you lost, don't lose other great benefits i.e. medical days in exchange for some bullshit residency. You knew you had to live here when you took the job. Push your union to demand 5000 plus po's are hired, for officer safety reasons alone! No unit should ever have to go on a job 99. Period. In the end there would be safer work enviorment and your neighborhood would benefit from it too. Drop the college requirement, it suxs, there are plenty of savy folks out there who have survived many years right out of high school, without being a criminal.
Peace out.

Niles in Dupage? Your an idiot. Suburban coppers living in the same county, your an even bigger idiot. almost all suburbs have a milage restriction ie 10 or 20 miles as straight as the crow flies. higher taxes where are you looking barrington. Oh by the way the school system here in Chicago is great 3500 - 5000 grand a year just to send a kid to school makes up for any 1000 tax increase. residency should be a barganing tool for us. I hate you people who post who have no idea what the hell they are talking about.

You can still get a cheap house in Dolton, Cal City, Robbins, Maywood, Bellwood. They are still in Cook County. Low taxes also. You buy them at rock bottom, rehab, sell it to a city employee. Buy another one or two with the profit, do it again. Pretty soon you will have all good people in those suburbs. Then you take over their city government, Mayor , Police Chief, Aldermen, Commissioners, etc. and fuck Daley.
Gee, this sounds too good. Buy my book and take-over kit for $29.99, it's called "Move Over Oprah", we are comming back.
This week only, I'll take $10.00 off the deal!

TO: Anonymous who said, "quit crying about every little fuckin thing!"

How come when someone who voices independent opinions about the concerns of F.O.P., the dim wits who sit upstairs, horrible medical benefits, or ask questions, are in your words "crying." The questions and concerns asked are legitimate. Every member has a right to ask and receive honest answers instead of silence or smoke and mirrors.

Many questions asked yesterday:

1. Are the Sgts going to stay on the FOP board?

2. What is Donahue's position about the Sgts. being on the Board?

3. How are the new Sgts. going to impose discipline on the rank and file and then discuss disciplinary actions against patrol officers at the Board meetings?

4. can you imagine what FOP's tax returns look like?

5. Are you reading this Mr. Mayor!

6. Do you think Mayor Daley could and would really call for an audit on FOP's financial records and income tax returns?

7. What was the problem with his return in 2001 or 2002?

8. One has to wonder how a contract drops 1/2 price with constant costs rising?

9. Why did we need a million in 2002? Is that when Mark & Co. took over?

10. Who knows the name of the entity which has the building in a trust?

Work for your salary Donahue and answer some of the above questions. Tell the TRUTH FOR ONCE IN YOUR PATHETIC LIFE!!!! You are a disgrace to the uniform, and in the capacity of representing us, the patrolmen for the city of Chicago. We should send you to the ARBITRATOR FOR A DECISION ON HOW TO GET RID OF YOU AS PRESIDENT OF F.O.P.

Man you guys really got me mad! I'm going to truy again- WHEN BILL NOLAN WAS HEAD OF FOP THE CITY OFFERED US AN INCREDIBLE SHITTY CONTRACT- NOLAN SAID WE SHOULD TAKE IT! THE MEMBERSHIP VOTED IT DOWN AND IT WENT TO ARBITRATION AND WE DID MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT THE CITY AND NOLAN WERE GOING TO GIVE US. THERE IS NO OTHER FUCKING WAY UNLESS SOMEONE CALLS FOR WORK SLOWDOWN WHICH IS TOTALLY UNCECESSARY- SINCE THE POLICE DEPARTMENTS MANAGEMENT IS SO INEPT AND THERE IS SO MUCH CLOUT ON THIS JOB THE CITY HARDLY GETS 2 YEARS OF WORTH OF WORK OUT OF ANYONE ANYMORE (EXCEPT THE SERIOUS STUFF). I DON'T WANT TO DEFEND NOLAN, HE COULD BE MORE PROACTIVE, HE SHOULD BE MORE READY TO RUN TO AN ARBITRATOR WITH EVERYTHING BEFORE THE NEXT CONTRACT EXPIRES AND HE SHOULD BE PREPARED TO ATTACK THE CITY IN THE PRESS. GOD KNOW THERE IS ENOUGH AMMUNITION TO ATTACK DALEY AND LAST TIME DALEY ATTACKED FIRST WHEN THE SUNTIMES RAN THE ARTICLE ABOUT HOW CHICAGO POLICE OFFICERS ARE THE WORST MEDICAL ABUSERS INT THE COUNTRY- THEY BACKED IT UP WITH STATISTICS EVERYTHING. All right I'm done know. I'm going to go take some Prozac. I'll need an extra dose after that.

As a CPD officer, I too, would like to know the truth. I don't believe who ever posted Boyle's name was busting balls. Tell you what? I'll make a conscientious effort to find out the truth on this subject and leave a comment for you. How is that? SCC might delete the truth, you know!

I sir am the goof who asked who owns the F.O.P. Building.

Please understand, I know who SHOULD own it, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO HAS THE BENEFICIAL INTEREST IN THE TRUSTS WHICH APPARENTLY HOLD TITLE TO THE PROPERTY.

Until the terms of the trusts are revealed, it is possible that the former owners still own part of the building, or an option to buy the building back.

Also conerning the mortgage from 2002, it was only recorded against one of the apparently three parcels that the building is on.

Why is that?

Why would a lender record against only part of the property.

But simply I would like to know what the money was used for.

Does anyone who was on the board at the time of the purchase remember if the identity of the "SELLERS" was revealed?

Cause quite honestly, I heard that a currently retired copper who is very involved in the management of the store was a former owner.

Sorry if you think I am a goof for asking.

But I would kind of like to know.

tHE CURRENT fop HAS never NOGOTIATED A CONTRACT!
Give it to the arbitrator!
This way no sticky fingers when they retire and get big time city jobs!
They didn't negotiate againt the city!

Talk about a patronage army. FOP took lessons at city hall and the county.
We are now run by the CPD hockey team who needed someone with name recognition to run for the presidency. Only the president is only out for himself

DOES ANYONE IN THAT FOP OFFICE HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE? FINANCE? LABOR RELATIONS? HOME EC?

BUNCHA HIGH SCHOOL GRADS RUNNING A MULTI MILLION $ A YEAR ORGANIZATION SUPPORTING FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

It has long been part of the city strategy to stall a contract as long as possible. They gain interest on the raises they delay paying out and we get stung by the interest and the taxes. By stalling past the union elections, the members get fed up and vote the old team out and the unions have to start with a new team. They do it with us, the firefighters and every other union that does not have a "prevailing wage" contract, and the right to strike.

Since we do have not the right to strike and the politicians do not fear us as a voting block, going to an arbitrator A.S.A.P may have been the best of a bad deal. Part of the problem is the arbitrator is not going to give us a great deal, only what matches what is happening elsewhere. With U.S. corporations sending jobs to China and canceling benefits that's is what we will get. Daley I am sure is looking to cancel our pensions just like he did with retiree medical care.

AN ALTERNATE CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR COULD GET A LOT OF MILAGE BY COMING TO THE MEMBERS AND PROMISING TO RESTORE BENEFITS. Less money spent on hired truck and flowerpots, put the money into the people. If we show that we can get rid of Daley, then we can get rid of any local politician. Then they will fear us, and we will get a much better de

I go to FOP meetings quite frequently, and I have for years.I have to say that running any type of meeting or size meeting takes some special skills.

I AM NOT a Donahue guy or a Nolan guy. Neither man is perfect. But, I think Donahue has done a fairly good job.

They do put in a tremendous effort,I have witnessed their hard work. I have always had access when down at the lodge hall, they've never turned me away when I had issues or questions. In fact, they probably don't even know my name, HOWEVER because I am polite, civil, and act like an ADULT when down there, they always are responsive to my needs. I am just an average dues paying member..THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS..GET INVOLVED PEOPLE..GO TO MEETINGS..IT's YOUR FRATERNAL ORGANIZATION!

Otherwise, STOP the bitching! OR Go to CUB SCOUT meetings instead..because you act like a bunch of children!!!!!!!!!!

Also, someone asked about the education levels of the FOP Board.

I think Capparelli has a degree from NIU-dekalb.(business or finance related) Not all of them have degrees but have varying amounts of experience from "the school of hard knocks" as the saying goes.

I will probably be called a suck ass or ass-hat (who ever made that one up?) but i'm just an average copper who actually reads the monthly newsletter and goes to meetings on my own time..as opposed to wiping my ass with the newsletter and bitching about how nobody does anything and all FOP are corrupt, blah, blah, blah!

It looks like a hard, thankless job, I wouldn't want it!If somebody can do better, get organized and Run against them. IT is sad, that it sometimes seems ONE-Sided inside the walls of FOP..but most cops only go there to buy medallians for their extended family and gang-banging friends from the neighborhood!

Sorry, I had to speak my mind. To many others vent here also, but won't get involved in FOP affairs otherwise.

Thank-you
