Being a Democrat

Part of being a democrat means you have to be able to hold contradictory positions in your head and then pretend that everything you've said before supporting one position doesn't really mean anything. And if a Republican points out your hypocrisy, then he's a big meanie. And god forbid he actually uses your own words against you.

For the past few years, all we've heard from the left is "get out of Iraq NOW." The drumbeat of defeatism from them and the media gets louder and louder as US casualty rates continue to fall to low levels and the Iraqi security forces step up to the plate so that when we actually DO begin to scale back forces, the left will claim victory.

Today, the democratic party will announce a new policy statement:
  • In the position paper to be announced Wednesday, Democrats say they will double the number of special forces and add more spies, which they suggest will increase the chances of finding al-Qaida's elusive leader. They do not set a deadline for when all of the 132,000 American troops now in Iraq should be withdrawn. [emphasis added]
So, after spending the 1990's slashing espionage funding, they now propose to double it and after spending almost 3 years demanding Bush set a timeline for withdrawal, they somehow neglect to do so themselves. Not only that, but they propose to "eliminate" Osama by what can only be described as an "invasion" of Pakistan - a shaky ally in the best of times. Amazing. They still think slogans and flower power can win a war. Unfortunately, the war they're planning on fighting isn't against terrorists - it's against republicans with no regard to the safety of the American people.

So aldermen
The day is here
Will you call a vote
Would anyone care

Would anyone notice
If a street was renamed
If we honored a hoodlum
Would it fan any flame

Please think-
Before you enter the hall
Of the brave men and women
Of the families that recall

How their loved ones were taken
In the still of the night
Without any warning
With viciousness and spite

Remember the sons and the daughters today
Remember the fathers and mothers who pray
Remember the husband and wives who still cry
Remember they never had the chance to say their goodbye

I wish you would remember history. The reduction in defense spending had to do with the "peace dividend" and was pushed by the republican house as much as the administration.

If you remember that was when an administration could actually manage a budget and not have a 9 trillion dollar deficit.

Go ahead blame the deficit on the democrats.

What drivel. If you have an educated opinion you might try trotting it out once in awhile. Otherwise, just complain about the department, area 2 gun team, Beat 1613 on afternoons and any other trite subject you might bring to bare.

Fitzgerald Will Seek New White House Indictments

It may seem as though it's been moving along at a snail's pace, but the second part of the federal investigation into the leak of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame Wilson is nearly complete, with attorneys and government officials who have remained close to the probe saying that a grand jury will likely return an indictment against one or two senior Bush administration officials.

Bush Is No Conservative

President Bush passes himself off as a conservative Republican and a born-again Christian. These are disguises behind which Bush hides. Would a Christian invade another country on false pretenses, kill tens of thousands of innocent civilians, and show no remorse or inclination to cease the aggression?

Longtime Republican policy wonk Bruce Bartlett recently published a book, Impostor, in which he proves that President Bush is no economic conservative, having broken all records in spending taxpayers' money and running up public debt.

So what would you have us do? Perhaps we should just sit around and wait for the next 9/11 type attack. After all, thats the policy the Clinton administration took for eight years and it worked out well.

The genius of Bush's plan is that once a viable democracy is installed in the greater middle east, it will naturally spread to neighboring countries. Believe it or not, humans have an inate desire to both be free and acquire knowledge. With democracy comes education of the masses. Only by educating Muslims and changing their method of thinking will we beat terrorism.

Unfortnately, the Bush plan is not one that will work in the short term. To see it come to fruition will take 50-100 years. The genius of his plan is that it WILL work. We can debate the merits of Bush's decision, but only history will be able to judge whether he was right or wrong. I believe it will one day be viewed as comparable to both the Marshall Plan and the Truman Doctrine in regard to it's overall impact on US security interests.

There is nothing, nothing that anyone can do to stop a well planned clandestine attack against this country or any other country.
you can only plan for what reaction that might be taken, this is not to say you don't have intelligences and spy organization attempting to stop such deeds. But we know with the types of enemies that we have in the world NOW and the many methods that can be employed, a single man doing a single deed can be the most lethal weapon that we might have to face.
Its like guranteeing that no one could assasinate a public firgue, with all the body guards and special arrangements, we can only hope to deter the efforts...The New Reality of World Politics

Chicago Cop Testifies Against Partner

(STNG) CHICAGO As he sat in the witness box Tuesday, Chicago police officer Joseph Groh tipped his head back, exhaling slowly and deliberately. And as the questioning continued, a deep-set frown and a tight-lipped smile darkened Groh's face. Here he was at a Cook County courthouse, testifying against his former partner, officer Bryan Vander Mey.

Groh testified that it "appeared" to be Vander Mey caught on a home video kicking and punching a man who was arrested April 17, 2003, outside the Cabrini-Green public housing complex. But Groh, who was present during the arrest, said he couldn't be "100 percent" certain.

In the courtroom audience sat Vander Mey's wife, mother, father and other supporters. Vander Mey sat still during Groh's testimony, never looking directly at his former partner. Vander Mey, who is suspended without pay, is charged with multiple counts of official misconduct and battery in the beating of Rondell Freeman.

In exchange for his testimony, Groh was granted immunity from prosecution. On the stand Tuesday, Groh admitted that he had also kicked at Freeman during the arrest.

Under cross-examination, Groh described a scene of "total chaos" in which police surrounded a van containing Freeman, 29, and three other men. As police tried to talk the men out of the van, a swarm of people surrounded them, yelling profanities and tossing objects, Groh testified. At the time, police had an arrest warrant for one of Freeman's passengers. "I was in fear (for) my life," Groh said. "I'm sure other officers were, too."

Groh said he didn't see Vander Mey punching or kicking Freeman and only came to that conclusion after viewing the video multiple times.

As defense attorneys played the video in court, Groh repeatedly said the quality was too bad to recognize officers' faces. He said he recognized Vander Mey by his "body shape" and by how close Vander Mey was to him.

Also testifying Tuesday were two police sergeants who were present during the arrest, but neither said they saw the alleged beating. Both described Freeman as uncooperative with police during the arrest.

The trial is set to resume April 10.

We dont have BCBS PPO. We have a card issued with that name on it. All the police medical policies are companies that front the police dept. their name. We are actually self-insured. The insurance companies bill the city for all medical cost plus a percentage of profit for doing so. The teachers actually have BCBS PPO and all the benefits it carries. Ours is what the City tells BCBS PPO what to cover and what not to cover.

Its a giant rip off. And it's also a fraud. They make it appear you actually have the insurance but you don't. You have the City of Chicago insurance and pay BCBS PPO to use their name.

Its a scandle and I wish somebody would do something about it.

Bush administration box score as of March 2006

Failure to secure the ports

Failure to secure Iraq

Failure to capture Osama Bin Laden

Failure to manage the aftermath of Katrina

Failure to keep oil prices down

Failure to keep healthcare costs down

Failure to improve the income of working people as oppose to those who are already rich

Failure to gain over all public support on how his administration is handling pretty much everything (how low are his numbers?)

Failure to keep members of his own party in line to support personal political agenda
(Social Security and immigration reform are going well aren't they?)

Failure to uphold the constitution and deprive people of their ensured civil liberties

Failure to abide by longstanding treaties and conventions
(Torture and due process depravation, global warming, etc.)

Failure to ensure the well being of future generations
(How much of the country have we sold to China and other countries and how big is the deficit?)

Failure to galvanize world sentiment after 9-11 and use that cooperation to achieve
(Instead preemption and alienation was the choice)

Things are going so well aren't they?

Nice posting, I hoped that you would share your sentiments with the copper working next to you. But after considering your post you are obviously are not now, nor ever were the police. It is no wonder that there is a nationwide shortage of police officers with sentiments such as yours. But you seem to be the type of person who revels in others misery and even mockingly calls for jail time. Seek help you are obviuosly a defective individual with issues. And as for "standing up for justice" I think it has more to do with keeping ones job, and a sweet transfer to 016 district on midnights. The society that is not prepared to befriend its guardians had better be able to live with its criminals.
P.S. the victim in this case being a Gangster Disciple. I am sure you are so offended by this incident you wouldnt mind inviting this G.D. over for dinner or, a date with your daughter or sister. Lets how far your convictions run.

Please, when you refer to republican talking points make sure they are accurate.

The Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February was 4.8 percent and that the average unemployment rate for 2005 was 5.1 percent. The average unemployment rate for the 1990s was 5.8 percent.

The BLS reports that the annual average unemployment rate rose to 7.5 percent in 1992, the last full year of President George H.W. Bush's term. The unemployment rate declined every year during Bill Clinton's presidency, falling to 4.5 percent in 1998 and 4.2 percent in 1999 -- both lower than current unemployment. The unemployment rate fell to 4.0 percent in 2000 -- Clinton's last full year in office.

The unemployment rate rose to 6.0 percent during the first three years of George W. Bush's presidency. It has declined since then but remains higher than when Bush took office.

That was an element of the overall budget cutting mentality because the republicans have always been leery of the CIA and the intelligence community in general.

Almost as much as they of the State Department.

That's why Cheney and Rumsfeld created their own intelligence agency. They were afraid the CIA wouldn’t tell them what they wanted to hear.

Parse words if you will.

In 1999 the Clinton administration had asked for an increase of 9 percent in the intelligence budget. The House Intelligence Committee added less than 1 percent to that request. As an Associated Press report noted, at that time Porter Goss, a Florida Republican who ran the House Intelligence Committee said he was satisfied with the level of intelligence spending.

Blame Clinton - that's synonymous with Nero playing the fiddle while Rome burned. Ask Porter where he was when Clinton was doing all this undoing.

Ignorance sometime warms the heart.

Now of course Goss is CIA Director.

Groh was between a rock and a hardplace and did the only thing he could do. He waivered as much as he could, but it's hard to dispute the video tape of the lumping.

All you tough guys that talk trash, I'd want to see you on the stand and lie that you don't know nothing. Then you get fucked by the department and the ASA.

"Groh testified that it "appeared" to be Vander Mey caught on a home video kicking and punching a man who was arrested April 17, 2003, outside the Cabrini-Green public housing complex. But Groh, who was present during the arrest, said he couldn't be "100 percent" certain."

If you're shown a picture of Mickey Mouse and you say it isn't Mickey Mouse, you look stupid and put yourself in the shit.

Another poster said you're stupid to do police work. Another stupid thing to say. If you're on this job, you're paid to do police work, not drive around drinking coffee. If you don't want to do police work, get another job.

Those guys didn't get into trouble for doing police work, they got into trouble for lumping a guy. God knows he deserved it, but we're supposed to be the good guys and lumping someone doesn't fall into our job description. Yeah, I know, I'm a pussy, but I'm not standing trial either. I've had many many instances where a guy needed lumping, but you took him into custody and forgot about it. Shitbag went to jail and I went home. Then I got to put in a slip for some more money. That's the real revenge. Lumping someone without justification only puts your ass in the sling. No piece of shit is worth that.

Lumping and thumping went out many years ago. If you're tempted to do it, don't. If you're partner crosses the line, stop him. You'll be doing both of you a favor.

Maybe if Groh had stopped him neither one would be in the shit.

You think you are teaching him a lesson or what? I mean why do it? No way it's worth the risk unless you are a total sociopath! Show a little self control!

Think about it: those shitbag GD's are going to get $$$$$$$ from the City, and get to laugh and joke about how they got a copper fired. They will then throw that in the face of every copper that stops them from now on. And if they get beat by some immature toughguy copper, the process just repeats itself.

The best revenge is drinking a nice cold beer on my little, but often used fishing boat on a nice quiet, secluded lake...paid for with court and overtime!

Sgt. 1st Class John Thomas Stone, 52, of Tunbridge, who was known as Thomas, was killed by small arms fire, said Gen. Martha Rainville, commander of the Vermont Guard. Stone was on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, she said, and was attached to Task Force Catamount.

Then again the same is true with the Republicans, talking about being fiscally conservative while spending even more than the Democrats. Both parties are just out to screw the American citizen anymore...

I defy you to find any statement that anyone has ever made that we eliminated the taliban. Shut your pie hole you ass. You make shit up and pass it off as fact. Screw you and your liberal friends.

I learned very well from Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Anne Coulter and the rest of the bombastic republican bunch.

They're very good teachers. Although, the practice of saying a falsehood until it becomes fact by this administration is melting away because it's not working. Look at Bush and Cheney's poll numbers. American's are fed up with their communication nonsense.

You lie once and then you have to keep lying and then you can't remember which lie is a lie and which lie was based on some other half-truth.

It gets complicated doesn't it?

This president has sold a bill of goods that will affect the entire country and the entire world for quite sometime and not for the good.

My problem is not with republican ideology. My problem is with republican leaders who present that ideology to get elected and then do contrary things in order to meet the needs of special interest. This goes for the democrats as well.

Politics = comprise = corruption

This is really about your children and your children's children.

If you are a police officer, I applaud your service but remember there are others in service as well. The ill-fated and inept decision this administration has made has cost the lives of close to 2500 young Americans who will never know a next generation.

The Practice of saying a lie enough until it becomes truth was perfected by the Nazi party with the ministry of propaganda. The Democrats used this well in the 60's, 70's and part of the 80s. When talk radio started becoming popular the people you decry (Rush Limbaugh, etc) are actually telling the truth. You were just so used to hearing Democrat lies that you believed them. Now with the advent of the internet (Invented by Al gore???) the Democrats are exposed for the liars and flip-flop artists that they are. The Democratic party will end up like the Dinosaurs soon.

Hey ass wipe, because of those 2,500 heroes, another generation won't have to see 3,000 citizens burned and crushed to death in falling skyscrapers. Go fuck yourself.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11.

I am trying a Karl Rove gimick.

Is it working?

Let me refer you to recent poll data:

"In the eight national polls Gallup conducted in the first quarter of 2006, an average of 33% of Americans identified as Democrats, while 32% identified as Republicans and 34% as independents," Gallup adds. "More Americans have identified as Democrats than Republicans in each of the last four quarters, although in each case the advantage was small -- from less than one percentage point to three points."

Enjoy the truth!

Last thing. . .

A reading recommendation and a brief review,

I thought I had a pretty good appreciation of how poorly these people had prepared for the war and its consequences. But recently I’ve been reading excerpts from a new book, “Cobra II: The Inside Story of the Invasion and Occupation of Iraq,” by Michael Gordon, the New York Times military correspondent, and Bernard E. Trainor, a retired Marine lieutenant general and former Times military correspondent.

The lack of preparation for the post-war period was even more appalling than I had believed. And those early failures haunt us every day. The book reveals that military commanders on the ground warned the Pentagon early on that an insurgency was quickly developing, and different tactics and many more troops would be needed.

They were ignored by the general in charge, Tommy Franks, who had sold his soul to Rumsfeld. And Rumsfeld’s response to cries from the field and criticism was to bully the generals, ignore their advice and threaten reprisals to those who continued to speak out.

Rumsfeld is tough, intelligent and dedicated by most standards. But how Bush could keep him on the job after things have gone so wrong in Iraq is beyond understanding. At the very least, he should have been asked to retire after the first term.

Rice, very popular now in opinion polls and a close confidante of the president, was national security adviser during the first term. It was her job to coordinate information about the war and make sure the president had all the facts. If some officials were skewing intelligence to support their position for an invasion, it was her job to make sure the information reaching the White House was as accurate and objective as possible.

We also now know that the State Department had serious misgivings about the post-war planning and had developed a set of plans itself, including the need to prevent looting in the immediate aftermath of the invasion. That information was wholly ignored by Rumsfeld, and it was Rice’s job to make sure that did not happen. Some officials I know who have watched and worked for the National Security Council over many years believe Rice was the weakest, most ineffective adviser in the council’s history. But she was promoted to Secretary of State for her work.

And I am sure she will make a great presidential candidate.

Enjoy the read!

To Mr.Golding; Kudos for your rebuttal of the Republican propoganda machine with your timely facts and figures.Unfortunately, there are those that will cling to the lies and half-truths they have been spoon fed over the last 5 1/2 yrs.The beauty/irony of this situation is that the GOP controls Washington lock, stock, and barrel. The Dems can't be blamed for this clusterf^#*! AND THAT INCLUDES CLINTON.President Bush has had over five years to get it right and has failed. In my opinion,he is the peter principle personified. His advisers and staff by insulating him and filtering information did him no favors. The rest of the GOP in congress arrogant and drunk with power thought they could do as they please without conseqense.Newsflash-Jack Abramoff sentenced to 5yrs! Can anyone say "lobbying scandal?"Look for a lot more indictments. A few will be Dems but I'll bet the farm the overwhelming majority will be members of the GOP.Having said all this,I'm no fan of the Democrats either.I find them spineless, lacking direction, and offering no tangible alternatives to the problems we face as a nation. Now is the time for a third party in this nation that stands up for the working families of this country. One that doesn't pay lip service to working people while picking their pockets to make the rich richer like the GOP.Or like the Dems who take altruisum to far by rewarding the lazy and uneducated among us (both Black & White) with free money while most of us work 2-3 jobs to get by.WAKE UP AMERICA! neither party has our best interests at heart. But at this particular moment I have more contempt for the GOP.The damage they are inflicting on our nation will be with us for decades. Those that believe the economy is solid are in for a rude awakening. The activity that keeps our ecomony moving is based on CREDIT.People are spending money they haven't earned yet and paying fat interest rates to do it.The GOP and the rich are having a party.GUESS WHO'S GOING TO BE LEFT HOLDING THE CHECK?

The only solution is to KILL all muslims before they succeed in taking over America and KILLING us!

It's the cold truth that the P.C. crowd thinks will go away if we stick our heads in the sand.

Spain is finished..soon France will be over-run by muslim extremeists, and then the rest of Europe. After that the WEST as we know it will be finished.

I hope it takes 50 years or more, so I don't have to witness it. But I think it will be only 10-20 years!

As far as this Groh testimony goes, I know only what i've read in the paper. It said that Groh AGREED to testify against HIS partner for IMMUNITY. If he did not aagree he therefore would have been on trial w/ his partner, he did testify to kicking at the shithead. So as I understand it, Groh AGREED TO TESTIFY AGAINST HIS PARTNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IN EXCHANGE FOR IMMUNITY.

GROH FLIPPED ON HIS PARTNER.

IF I'M WRONG ON MY CONCLUSION I DO WELCOME ANY THING THAT WILL CLARIFY THIS FOR ME.
