Thank God Their Priorities are Straight

  • Outrage from Chicago Police brass has prompted Mayor Daley to shelve a cost-saving proposal to charge them $250 a month for their city cars.
Now if they could just take a stand on naming streets signs after those advocating the murder of police officers.

You also would just give every ashole your plate number when you respond to a scene. Oh and by the way sometimes you have to respond somewhere else than the station. So not only did you save the city millions you also put your family in jeopardy by possibly giving some shithead your personal inforamtion and not even knowing it.

So protect the bosses who are not on the street from the shitheads getting their plates, but the working police who drive their personal cars to and from work everyday and deal with the shithead, its all right for shithead to get the plate.

And why is a boss taking his family out in the take home car anyway. Isn't that against G.O.?

You must be a want-a-be boss 8:38:23 or an office rat who has a take home car.

There is a State law that allows all police officers to register their license plates at their WORK ADDRESS. (Its on a Department Notice)

3/02/2006 09:19:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

MANY individuals in narcotics have take home “covert” vehicles being paid for at tax-payers expense. There is no need for this practice any longer. If the department was worried that one of these officers was to be seen in his personal car with plates registered to his home address.. the officers can now register the plates to a department address.

There are also MANY individuals out there that do not have respond to incidents at any time of day. THESE individuals should not have cars. It’s time to trim the fat of the budget. However since this city (and county) is so loaded with clout and waste, just look for AN OTHER increase in your property taxes next year.

Total up the money they save for not having to pay a car payment, not having to pay insurance, NEVER having to pay for gas....
That probably comes to a grand a month. And HOW much do bosses make again??

I'm not in favor of 90% of the car practice, but there seems to be a logical gap in the "thinking" here with respect to narcotics or other u/c officers.

You don't want a car coming back to their home address because its a safety concern, right? So the solution is to give them plates that register to HQ or a city address?

Great, so if we start with the premise that a bad guy may be able to get the information from a plate, than how have we just improved anything? Should the plates of UC cars all come back to a UC address? If they don't already, that's a problem. But if they do, it would not be smart to change it so that its not under a UC address.

Nevertheless, I agree with those who are stating that 90-95% of the take home cars are complete bullshit. Non-UCs can get cars registered to the station.

But how in the world are we supposed to be suddenly afraid that someone is getting our home addresses off of plates? If anyone cared, they could just as easily hang out in the Dugan's lot, or watch the lots of most any police facility, or whatever.

All in all, just more of a waste of money. But what isn't in this city?

3/02/2006 02:09:00 PM

There are many suburbs that give their officers take home cars. So does the CCSPD, and ISP, who start and end their tours of duty from their driveway.

It would be nice if everyone could have a take home car, and it would be cost effective in the long run, as each officer would be responsible for his/her car. You wouldn't find greasy steering wheels, pop cans under the seat, peanut shells on the floor and who knows what else in about 97% of the cars if each officer had their own. And cars would last for 5 - 7 years because they wouldn't be beatup all the time. And think of all the crazy driving and unnecessary chases that would stop because each officer would have a vested interest in how they take car of the car.

It would be nice to see all the MARKED squad cars of the patrol division officers parked all over the place. But....aside from the initial start up expense, it would be a PR nightmare. Everyone in the city would whine about the "waste" no matter how cost effective it was in the long run. And in a department our size, it would be long before the abuses started rolling in....car parked outside the tavern, car parked outside the riverboat, car parked outside some seedy place.

It would be nice, but we know it can't happen. If you want a take home car, either work for an agency that gives them or try making boss. After all, rank does have priviledge. And the only people who beef about the priviledge don't have the rank.

For those interested. They are supposed to claim the car as income per IRS Statutes. The city does not have an Official policy of take home cars in writing as it would violate this code. People in the private sector have to pay taxes on a car as income.

Welfare recipients. Criminals. And those Democrats and their friends who are robbing the city blind with expensive and unnecessary handouts, unwarranted promotions, ghost payrolling jobs and whatever else they can think of.

Perhaps 4000-5000 POs in the districts. 5000-8000 unaccounted for. Any wonder why half the posters on a secondcitycop board will defend the wholesale practice that benefits the clout-monkeys?

When they have a job to respond to from home they drive in their own car to the job and the kicker, the city will not cover you if you are involved in a traffic accident responding to a job nor will your car insurance... So you wonder what takes so long for Swat to respond to a job, this is why...... I am not gonna jeopardize my my family or myself for nothing.. God forbid I get into a accident on the way to a job in my own car and I get killed or I kill someone else, my family and or me are f$$ked!!!!When I drive to a job off duty, I obey ever traffic law out there because I know I am on my own if I get into a accident..... and forget about it if there was ever a terrorist incident downtown and we needed to respond from home, good luck...everybody trying to flee downtown and were driving in our own cars trying to get downtown with no lights or sirens... sure everybody will believe we are SWAT and we won't get pulled over a few hundred times trying to respond to the emergency!!!!!!!!

These are either seized vehicles or those bought with 1505 funds-funds seized from dope dealers, search warrants, etc. Those are funds and vehicles seized through the good work and investigations by coppers on this job and in those untis. Quit crying and do the work and seize a bad guys vehicle and maybe you can get a take home car too.

The Hampton issue. You know what the Hampton issue is? It's a trick by the scum bag leadership of black people whose membership is being forced out of the city by lack of funds for public housing to unite these fools by creating an overreaction from white people. Put up a sign on Monroe. There will be a race to see who can rip it down first. The real issue is scum bag Daley and scum bag Jesse Jackson working together to rip off the tax payer (and screw over POs). As far as the average PO is concerned don't fall into this trap that the black leadership has set. Do not overreact! The worst thing these dirt bags want to see is cool, unemotional, logic when dealing with trap.

And where is there ANY legitimate explanation for who gets city cars? You show me the explanation for why YOU deserve a car (let alone why YOU need a car), why YOU deserve a spot in a unit doing nothing while I'm busting my hump.

Cameraderie? You show me an explanation from Cline as to how every one of his kid's friends from 011 deserves a promotion before me (or 10000 others). Take your cameraderie and shove it up your fucking ass til it hits your brain. You ain't the one backing me up.

Lets face it guys it was another Dayley ploy to create revenue (save revenue). $250.00, where the hell does that number come from? Its like his proposal to have all managers in all departments take a personal day unpaid. He spends 100's of millions of dollars on a F-ing park. The saving of money or creating revenue always seems to fall on the sholders of the city worker. >>You had me, then ya lost me with that assinine statement. <<

I'm sure you were lost long before you started reading. Should I define "worker" for you? As in, people who go to work and work 40 hours or more per week, and actually do work, like workers? You know, working workers?

I'm sure you can name some units which you think include one or more such "workers". And I'm sure that you know that EVERY SINGLE UNIT in this city comes with perks. Perks that involve not working when you are being paid to work. Like all the special cars that hang around in 022 and 016. On days. Everywhere in 022 and 016. And those are just the recognizable marked and unmarked cars. POs, but not "workers".

You show me a PO with a car and no such perks, and I'll show you my pet unicorn.

Or maybe you can name a unit with cars but no skip days, and no clout bunnies, and people who actually work their 40+'s like 75% of the POs in patrol cars in the patrol division.

Im not sure some of the posters here know why narc and gang intel have take home cars. FYI, often times the teams are split and surveillances are conducted throughout the day at different locales. Scenario: Surveillance on SE side. I live on SE side. Instead of going to surv in my "take home" covert, I drive to Homan and get car. Now on city time, I drive one hour(rush hour) to surv location . At end of tour drive one hour back to Homan. If I had take home I save City two hours of pay. What is the difference between the car in front of my house or in the lot at Homan?

The only reason you guys can take home those cars is that there is no safe place to park/secure them at Homan Square. And your fooling yourself if you think others dont know what you guys do on a daily basis. 1 hour surv and the rest "out in the field" Ya right!!!

How about the Ford Taurus "assigned" to the 11th Ward office, registered to the Water Rec District with (get this) vanity "M" plates of M11. It can be seen parked discretely at 37/Emerald every night. VANITY M PLATES!!! Talk about abuse of power and unnecessary perks

Won't be long before idiots like you will be the only ones left. Who is gonna do the work then? Laugha while you can monkey-boy.

I totally agree with 3/02/2006 5:40:43 and there are more like him who are fed up with the bullshit that goes on in this department with the have and have nots.I think this is the only job that hard work and dedication is not rewarded. But have some clout and you get the best spots the job has to offer without earning it or putting time on the job. Really business as usual has to come to an end and all these units have to open up to testing, work performance, time on the job,etc... even the playing field!!! How do you become a hostage negotiator?? See what I mean.

That's not how it has always worked. Last time they went into the 520's off the list. Usually if you were in the top 400 by score you made it. If they drop the list before making at least 400 to 500 in score there really should be an investigation why the tax payers money is wasted to promote so few by score and promote those who are not qualified but have clout under the guise of "Merit" (I know, it will never happen)

Sorry Commander Clueless Gene, I didn't know you were on the blog tonight. I obviously know the difference between the two plates and that should be obvious by the way I referred to it as an "M" plate. When I called it a "vanity M plate" I was only making the point that it was an "M" plate whose number was chosen to specifically identify its affiliation with the 11th ward (thus M 11) You find me an "M" (municipal) plate other than that one with only 2 numbers...you can't. NOW GO "F" YOURSELF JAGOFF

dear 801 htere are many problems witht the city but we do not have the highest taxes were about thirtieth (on cnnfn site about a week ago) new yorks are much higher. Population was declining in the 70's and 80's but is going back up though the 90's and 2000's buisnesses are actually coming in to the city at impressive numbers look at any area that used to be a ghetto and it is changing. I hate the little stuttering midget daley for how he treats the middle class but he has improved the city. the good thing about this is he doesnt need the city workers to be his tax base much longer. we will get rid of residency in 2009-2010.

Dear 5:22,

http://64.233.179.104/search?q=cache:ujiZ7zfGc_YJ:suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-taxes29.html+%22Cook+County%22+%22highest+sales+tax%22&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1

Chicago at 9% has the highest sales tax in the nation according to this Google-cached editorial. Tack on fees. Ask visitors about the taxes for car rentals and hotels. And so on and so on with the "fees". Water meters coming soon.

NYC has, as far as I know, its own income tax. And that hurts. Other places like Virginia have personal property taxes on cars. But all in all, Chicagoans and Chicago businesses face a huge local tax burden. And then there is the corruption.

Take a look at the 25 largest Chicago area companies (by market cap) from 7 or 8 years ago. Not many are left, though USG and UAL are both emerging from bankruptcy (USG with its stock flying). But Warner Lambert? Bank One? Anderson accounting? marchFirst? Newell Rubbermaid? More than half are gone for any number of reasons.

What has Chicago got in return? Boeing HQ with 50-75 employees. There are at least 20 Boeing sites elsewhere in America with more employees.

You got examples of other companies moving to Chicago? I'm not seeing it. I know people all over the U.S., and the only place I know anyone unemployed is Chicago. The businesses in Chicago that are doing the best are the law firms. 3 or 4 of the world's largest are based in Chicago AFAIK. Other than that, businesses are not being started here, and they aren't moving here nearly as fast as they are leaving.

Look around downtown. You think new office buildings are going up as fast as others are being converted to condos?

As someone else alluded to, there is housing going up everywhere, especially close to downtown. Same thing is happening to a lot of other cities.

The only things that will ever give Chicago a leg up (over the suburbs) will be $7.00 gas and (over booming southern cities) will be global warming if the coastal areas do in fact flood.

Other than that, the midget is killing the city. Witness the perpetual budget deficits at the city, county and state levels. CTA? Schools? You name it. And the answer over the entire tenure of democrats in this city and state has always been to raise taxes and/or fees even more.

Best thing the next R senator in Illinois could do is go to the White House and tell them to take away all anti-poverty social spending in Chicago. No more section 8, no more public housing, no more women-infant-children funds. Get rid of the concentrations of subsidized poverty (which drains local resources tremendously on the side), and Chicago will have a shot over other places.

But look at the places that are booming. The critical mass ain't poor people like it is here. They'll keep voting for anyone who keeps directing local resources their way. And the result is that workers and businesses will keep going elsewhere where the social tax burden ain't nearly what it is in Chicago.

Rant over.

So 5:55 if I understand you correctly, do away with poor people because they are draining our economy. Not that something like Iraq would have anything to do with fiscal foresight. As of this week 250 BILLION has been wasted in a land that is more F'd up than Detroit And the money faucet continues for other people.

3/04/2006 01:53:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm 5:55. I don't hate poor people, my ancestors and some of my contemporaries are poor.

I'm an R, and I hate Bush's fiscal irresponsibility just as much as I hate that of almost every D I can think of. I'm familiar with how well Virginia has been doing and I'm even likely to support a Warner candidacy.

But the concentratons of poor people in this city and other Northern cities are an issue that must be addressed in many ways. They've drained us for schools, policing, housing, food, criminal victimization, and many other areas for decades without improving their collective lot.

I generally support what has happened by invading Iraq, as its a battle that needed to be fought at some point (the whole middle East is something we will have to deal with at some point). But I still think Rummy should be tarred and feathered, along with Cheney, for how they micromanaged and mismanaged the war from the start. They have no idea what they are doing, and I suspect an honest conversation with most mid-level and senior-level officers in the military would show that most agree that I'm essentially correct.

But are poor people need jobs. If we are giving them anything (able-bodies), we should be demanding something in return. Like work. And then we could call it a job. That's slowly starting to happen.

On that note, I just heard today that there are white people moving in around 47th street in the deuce. Holy shit. I am not trying to race-bait here. I was gentrifier. But this is mind boggling to me. 47th street? This city IS changing pretty quickly.

Don't know who Haithcock is pandering too, but her base is gone. And at the rate things are changing, it looks like Daley's base is leaving pretty quickly too.

Can anyone confirm that their are now white yuppie-types living deep in the deuce? Holy jeezus.

These take home cars are used in covert capacity. Don't you think that the bad guys would get the idea that the cars used in these missions, are parked at homan square. Do you think that some way they might get a list of parked car license plates? Stop crying about what you don't have. Start working to get into these positions, you are crying like the victim's of katrina. Like you are owed something.

I'm one of those complaining about the personal cars. I have no objection whatsoever for those of our brothers and sisters undercover or in preparation of going undercover. But if you think that the u/c cars are anywhere close to a majority of the cars given out in the city, than you should think again.

There are a LOT of cars given out to people who have no compelling reason. There should be no more than 250 or so u/c (or in preparation of going u/c), 100 or so for those who are truly always-on-duty (i.e., swat, hbt), and perhaps 40 for the exempts.

Do you or anyone else here have any idea how many there are? My understanding is that its a LOT more than 390, and of those, something less than 250 are for those u/c or those always-on-duty.

Funny thing is though, the city ain't nearly the worst at this. I have friends, family and neighbors at the county, state and federal levels, and waaaaaay more of them have g-issued cars than those I know in the CPD. So I'm not complaining that loudly about the CPD practices.

If anything, if they'd prepare this city properly for a terrorist event, I think a lot more of our brothers and sisters would warrant an emergency response car so long as they agreed to be duty available (i.e., no drinking) 80 or 90 percent of the time.

WE ARE REALLY SOFTIES IF WE ARE TREATED FAIR AND AS PROFESSIONALS. I REMEMBER WHEN YOU IMPOUNDED A CAR YOU GOT YOUR 3 HRS AND THE CITY GOT BETWEEN $200-$600 PER CAR IMPOUNDED. WHAT DOES THE CITY DO? ELIMINATE OUR REQUIRED APPEARANCE AND WE LOOSE THE OT. GUESS WHAT? VEHICLE IMPOUNDS GO DOWN. JUST A LITTLE EXAMPLE OF WHAT THE CITY HAS DONE. REMEMBER FEMALE AND MALE MISDEMEANOR COURT? WHORE COURT? CUN COURT? WE COULD MAKE THE CITY A FORTUNE IF THEY TREATED US DECENTLY. BUT KEEP VOTING FOR THE IRISH SELLOUT SUCKHOLE POLITICIANS AND WE GET MORE OF THE SAME.
