- In a new political bombshell, leading African-American legislators and others said Monday they may support an independent third-party candidate against Rod Blagojevich this fall.
Wow. Black legislators refusing to support a democratic candidate. Could this be the begining of a falling apart of the Machine and the lockstep voting of a significant minority block?
- But State Sen. Meeks and others were infuriated last week when Rod Blagojevich told reporters in Springfield that, if re-elected, he would refuse to raise either the sales tax or the income tax.
“If the governor does not take back his pledge, and if the governor is not willing to work with the Illinois Legislative Black Caucus, it's a third candidate that I'm hoping will step forward,” Meeks said.
Did you catch that? Meeks and the Black Caucus WANT TO RAISE sales taxes and/or income taxes! Holy Shades of Walter Mondale Batman! Of course, it's all for the children, but we've been pouring money into the money pit known as "public education" for years and there has been little or no improvement - at least not in direct proportion to the amount of money given. Maybe instead of raising taxes, we ought to look into alternative means of fixing schools - like a voucher system. Regardless, Republican chances look a little bit brighter with Meeks and company promising to back a third party candidate and promising ot raise taxes. It's almost "Rovian."

The way we fund public schools is fucked up. Richer districts have more money to pour into their schools....poorer districts have less.
It's obvious with that kind of disparity you would have differances in education.
We need: Property taxes collected state wide and divided up by school districts in an equal fashion.
Consolidate school districts. No need to have that much administration bloating an already overburdened system, taking money and resources away for duplicate paper shuffling.
Bring back corporal punishment. It never hurt anyone to get two swats on their ass when they screw up. When your ass is stinging for an hour or so, makes you think about getting it again.
Bring back dress codes. When you look like a thug, dress like a thug, you act like a thug.
Mandatory public service: If you don't finish school, then get your ass on the side of the road with a stick and a bag and pick up trash.

My wife is a public school teacher, in Chicago. The absolute fucking HORRIFIC stories I hear from her is amazing! We have a whole section of the city that don’t want to learn, and if you try to correct them, or do something about it; 'momma ands baby’s daddy' hit the fan, want to sue you, the school and CPS. (What a fucking surprise!) However, cash from our taxes is kept on being thrown into the abyss! 10 to 15% of the students in some of these schools actually want to learn! (Because 10 to 15% of the parents are actually decent people!) Welfare is the same thing, few of them actually want to work, and do better for themselves, but the majority would rather sit on their collective asses and get free money. AND WE ARE FOOTING THE BILL! School is just a baby-sitting service the City provides, God forbid the kid actually learns something! Voucher system, fuck no! RE-DO the whole system! "Ok JR., you don’t want to learn, go pick up trash, clean bathrooms, do something outside of sitting here and disrupting kids who actually want to learn!" The one I love is: "Oh, I collects a check, I gots azhalma!" then get a job at a desk, cause I'm sick of paying your ass! (And while we are at it, since I pay YOU, cut my fucking grass, and pick up the dog shit in the back yard you oxygen thieves!) The whole system needs to be re-done! But who is going to have the balls to stand on the podium and say, "when I'm elected, this shit is going to change! (and mean it!)" and actually think (s)he is going to win an election? Unfortunately, nobody on this dept, is willing to step up and say anything about how things are run. Either we have gotten burned, or we know someone who has. This involves the police dept. and govt. too. Unless we all stick together, (which from the looks of this blogsite, is NEVER going to happen), unless we put forth a concerted effort, we will never see any changes. I agree with 8:42. Forget the voucher system. Why do you think I spend $5,500 per year for my two kids to go to a private safe school. These mules cannot play a high school level basketball game without hugh police manpower on scene. I never saw 1 policeman in my high school for four years and the dean took care of the problems. And no I am not from Naperville. The school is in the City on southwest side.

While I did not participate in "the pre-dawn raid" of December 4, 1969 at 2337 W. Monroe St., my memories are vivid of this era and the murderous Black Panther Party.
I now see that a one-time protegee of former Black Panther Bobby Rush, Madeline Haithcock of the 2nd Ward, wants to rename this block as "Chairman Fred Hampton Way".
While I had a personal encounter of the 10-1 kind with a mob led by Rush and his Black Panther Party, I wish to resurrect the events of the early morning hours of November 13, 1969 at 5800 S. Calumet Ave. How easily some forget.
I'll bet that Haithcock and Rush will recall the name of another Black Panther, Spurgeon "Jake" Winters.
Yet Haithcock and Rush will be clueless as to the names of the late John Gilhooly (002) and Frank Rappaport (003), two of our fallen comrades that were shotgunned to death by Winters that fateful morning. In turn, Winters was killed by responding units.
I'm not even including Fillmore colleagues who were shot by the Panthers and survived through the grace of God.
While there is no street named "Gilhooly" or "Rappaport" in this City, Haithcock wants to rename a block of Monroe St. after "Chairman Fred", who died in his crib after the first gunshot emanated from within.
The murders of Officers Gilhooly and Rappaport were merely one incident of "offing the pigs" by the BPP nationwide.
