Captains, Lieutenants Reading the Blog?
We just read in the Sun Times that Captains, Lieutenants and other city workers got the shaft big time with their retro checks being taxed at a higher rate.
- Instead of taxing retroactive pay at a flat rate of 25 percent, Acting City Comptroller Steve Hughes lumped the supplemental check in with the rest of employee earnings, kicking them up to a higher tax bracket. If they want the money back, they'll have to wait until they file their 2007 tax returns.
Any bosses care to comment? Because the Sergeants who are about to receive almost 3 years of retro pay might be a bit interested in how the city is calculating their raises and their withholding.
