Rumor Mill Starts Up

Rumors of exempt movement are on the horizon. It's been a couple of months since anything happened and there are a few openings. Also, keep in mind that Lieutenant "meritorious" letters were due in last week AND the Sergeants are set to graduate around St. Patrick's Day AND the "meritorious" detective letter is due in sometime in March.

So, who has a list of what's open? Who has the dirt on the size of the Lieutenant class? How about Detectives? And can the academy keep up with the shortages that will be generated by pulling all these people out of the districts and an estimated 600 retirements this year?

once again, one tries to keep the previous thread serious and center the discussion on our pension fund. But what happens? It's reverted back to the rumor mill, and the humdrum of who's first on the thread. It's a sad day when the media is writing articles and showing concern about city employee's pensions funds dwindling, and we sit here giggling about nonsense.

I am Amazed how no one has mentioned the fact that numerous detectives were reassigned to the processing center against their will and against the contract. Before you people start up bashing the Detectives just imagine if you were assigned to a district then sent elsewhere regardless of seniority. I have no idea how the department or the FOP can let this happen

Rumor is that Commander Rivera of 025 is soon to be replaced with an African-American due to intense Aldermanic pressure from the 30 sector. Will Ald. Suarez give up a Hispanic without a fight? Big deals in the works...

Heard two possible names in the running for his spot: Capt. Calhoun from 015 and Lt. Callaway from IAD. Either way, it's a loss for everyone; both have been promoted far beyond their abilities. I've worked with both in the past and it's truly an insult to see how they've risen!

Rivera has been quiet, but is gaining more respect from the troops here in 025 everyday. Down to earth, no-bullshit kind of boss, rare these days! From what I can see, he tells it like it is and treats his PATROLMEN with respect. Can't ask for more. I'll be sad to see him go, if that does happen. Hope he moves up and keeps the same demeanor!

Also heard A/5 C/O Andrews to move up, maybe ADS/street Dep?

Please note these are all rumors! They came straight from "reliable sources" at 35th, but I won't necessarily vouch for them!

Anyone see in the Tribune today how Meeks and a coalition of black lawmakers was blasting our Governor Roddo and threatening not to support him in the upcoming election?

Looks like even going on tv at his church calling the police racists wasn't enough to save him. Be careful making deals with the devil Roddo. Now you have NO ONE to back you.

Go get a decent haircut. Nice appearance on The Daily Show by the way.

They were assigned from one unit to another regardless of seniority. They had no say in the matter. You can say it is bull crap but there were bid positions open for that unit and if they were not filled, which they were not, then it would go by reverse seniority, which it did not. Why do we have senority and a contrat if it is not followed?

They plan on making a total of 453 Detectives off this list over the next 51 months. There ya go; ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. Are you really that naive about how this department works? Do you really think there is a plan about how many detectives they are going to make with a compatible time line? Where do you work? Someone asks that stupid question every week.

I work at headquarters there is a final class of sergeants from old list. It consists of a total of 37 of those 11 will be "merit" yet to have been selected. This list is to be out between APR 19-25. I believe the cut off number is 350.

good luck for those who made it legit

Supposedly the bids were opened and only one person bid for the unit, apparently because the lieutenant that they would be working for is someone whom most of us would not want to work for. Then instead of going by reverse seniority to fill the remaining spots, they picked whoever they wanted. But, they only picked from SVU, even though all of the newer detectives have been certified as juvenile officers by the State, so.....there are a couple of issues here.

1st - not filling by reverse seniority.
2nd - not taking from the other units in the Areas, i.e. HGS or RBT, even though there are newer detectives there that probably should or could have gone.

So, the BIG $60,000.00 question is why did the FOP let this happen??? For those of you who think that the FOP takes care of the detectives, guess what, they don't, even though the FOP President happens to be a detective.

I apologize, I forgot to address that issue. The question posed here is valid. The answer is NO. It seems that there are fewer people than ever involved in the FOP. Some meetings there are barely fifty people which means that should there be any votes, they should be physically counted to be sure that there are the required number.

I must assume it is the responsibility/duty of the officers/detectives who were harmed (improperly reassigned to the new youth unit) to make the case against the city with the union.
It's possible the city didn't follow the rules with respect to filing positions.
So what's new?

I'm on bid. I wish they would have picked me. It would work like this:
Hit the medical tomorrow until reassigned to my original unit. wait a few months, maybe a year. collect a check for over-time compensation for every day i was improperly assigned.

One of the Dets they hijacked from A/4 has been on the job for 19 years.

We were told last week that anyone going to the JISC center (it's already been renamed to something much nicer...) will not be guaranteed their watch or furlo. They guys are just waiting to see what watch they get and then a mass grievence shouldn't be too far behind.

Not following the reverse senoirity and only picking from SVU was a very stupid move and it's gonna cost the deptartment $$$ in the end.

Old sergeant list is still active. A new final list of names are due out in April it will consist of 37 names 11 which will be merit. That is a fact not only from H/Q's but you can contact FOP who was advised there will be one more class. FOP was not informed of the size, due to the merit selection.

The old seregants list is still active. Iwas in a meeting last week at H/Q's. There will be 37 names to be out around 19 to 25 of April. The fact is the sergeants list is coming out before the detectives list, because their are several officers that scored well on the dets test but are also within the 26 on the old sergs test. H/Q's is doing the math to make it fair for the 26 slots that are available the other 11 are merit. 10:26 :09 is obviously brain dead!!!! I said FOP did not have the number because of merit!
When FOP is informed asshole it must be official, on paper...
After H/Q's makes the merit list of names then FOP will be informed of the 26 officers who placed in rank on the list.

I,m sorry but as far as I am concerned promotions are 100% meritorious. Call me ignorant but I have been on this job far too long to have seen the "meek and retarded"(no offense to the retarded) get promoted. This 70% legit is a smokscreen. Why is it that a retiree breakfast you will hear around the table "who their clout was" and "how they got made". I'll tell you this is a hell of a job if you have clout. Until then forever blue.

3/02/2006 09:09:00 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Inasmuch as I am a victim of the meritorious promotion process I would never blame you for being bitter and pessimistic, however, more than a few legitamit guys do get promoted through the carreer service ranks-but never to the exempt ranks. Those promotions are soley staffed with cronies (or accomplices), somebodys female lap dog, or political hacks. Meritorious promotions are only a veiled attempt to legitamize this corruption.

Maybe this will might end when the political landscape is defoliated by federal indictments. And everyone of us who has ever cast a ballot for a democrat in the City of Chicago in complicit in this travesty.
