Are We Missing Something Here?

Fran Spielman's article in Today's Sun Times is headlined "Emergency Chief to Collect $281,280 a Year." The article goes on about how Cortez Trotter is in line to collect $131,280 in Firefighter pension in addition to his new salary of $150,000 as Chicago's "chief emergency officer." Here's the kicker at the end of the story though:
  • Trotter's arrangement marks the first time in recent memory that a high-ranking city employee collected both a pension and regular paycheck from City Hall. [emphasis added - SCC]
Wow. Way to qualify a statement Fran. "...from City Hall." Amazing. Because we're sure that it isn't the first time that anyone has collected a pension and another City check (Townsend, Maurer, every formerly sworn supervisor working at OEMC, all the retirees currently working the Operations Center with the cameras). But Fran makes it seem that Cortez is doing something new. Correct us if we're wrong, but even the mayor's check is cut by the comptroller, so it doesn't really come out of "City Hall."

It sure is nice to take care of friends.

This city absolutely sucks. Remember this crap at voting time and take the lead.

psst! And remember businesses, when you call our city departments nd have that LONGGGGGGGGGGG wait time, or get treated like sh*t when ya walk in to get help, know you know why.

Your dollars for your licenses, taxes, permits, inspections, etc. are being paid staright out to the big chief and friends.

good luck.

SCC you are correct. And the whole thing is amazing. A few of the bosses who went to the OEMC were worth their weight in gold, and a few could not have been more lazy, shiftless, political and worthless. Ditto the retired POs. A few of them (the retirees) were master-dispatchers. More than a few had never worked a busy zone in their LIFE, and would have given 90% of a day's salary to not sit on zone 6 or 10 for any given day.

One quibble though. I'm pretty sure a few of the younger ones initially either weren't eligible for their pension draws either by being under 50 or by not having the required 20.

But this is the sweetheart deals that the city gives. And Trotter? Trotter? WTF? It almost smells like a payoff of some sort.

He is not even close to the caliber of person who should be in charge of the OEMC or the FD, let alone the whole shebang of the OEMC, FD and PD. Whats his connection again? Is it Meeks?

Noooo, it's not Meeks but your close. It is a religious figure. Does the title Bishop Trotter ring a bell? How about a political figure that also shares the name Trotter?

We would like to offer the Mayor a free MRI. Yes, we would. That way we can officially document whether he truly has a spine or not. Any wagers?

Please contact us:

Here's a coincidence, and only a coincidence, there was a dozen folks or so hired and/or promoted all parishoners of the Salem Baptist church, all the same time Trotter was running oec land.
Rumor has it the white cards you fill out in personal downtown were being distributed after services by personal director or someone who has since then took a lateral move. But I don't believe any of this could be true.

Not to raise the wrath of the cranky guy who berates the shit out of everyone and uses *** to replace letters in curse words, but:

23 days ago I submitted a request to the City website for an opossum trap in my yard. My kids are afraid to play there due to the pony sized creature that has been seen on numerous occasions back there. TWENTY THREE DAYS AND NO RESPONSE AT ALL!!!!

There is a potentially dangerous animal living under my porch and I can't get any confirmation at all from the City that they will set a trap. A private contractor wants $300 to catch and remove the nasty thing!

I almost shot it the other night while taking out the garbage, but I didn't want the Department hassle. With my luck, I'd miss and kill a neighbor...not a big loss, but troublesome just the same...

The City that works...if you have a phonecall!

Any of you hillbilly southsiders want to come and catch this thing for me? You could make a whole mess o'stew out of this big F*cker! Feed the family for days...

Hey 'possum licker... I too had a problem getting a trap. I'm still waiting...ONE YEAR LATER! Go to Home Depot and buy a trap like I did($50). I caught seven cats, two oppossums and one raccoon using a can of tuna for bait. Then call 411 and Animal Control will come out and get the animal. Just make sure to put your name on the trap because animal control will try to steal your trap. I make them take the animal out and give me my trap back on the street. I never knew there was so much good eatin' under my South Side trailer.

Try and find out where he/she has set up nest at. Contact squad or admin desk, have them transfer you right to the animal control cpd number, if you call admin use pax line. If not, squad has access to line.

Just on the off chance that either of you are serious, please call 311. 311 takes the reports and everything for any department falls under a mandatory response time. If you feel its been too long, call back and ask for the disposition of what you reported. Just like the 911 calls, every call must have a disposition and an event number (or something like it).

Different departments and different events fall under different time requirements, but I sorta doubt any are as long as 23 days.

My sister in Mt. Greenwood was complaining about a pothole a few years ago and I told her to call. Than I remembered that there was an election a day or two later. She called. Lo and behold, the pothole was fixed before the polls closed.

Even if you two weren't serious, I hope this helps someone. Its also a great tool for a beat officer to use, by way of encouraging citizens to report things that create danger like the alley lights being out or graffiti. Than again, I'm sympathetic to old people like that, so those were usually the people I'd give this helpful advice and speech.

I have to laugh when people say... "I'll remember this on election day!"... then they go and vote straight Democratic right down the line. I've been a life-long Pubbie and probably one of ten Republican votes in my ward, including my wife.

This city will never change as long as the Dumbocrats are in charge. And now that the city is majority Hispanic, don't expect a Republican mayor in our lifetime, it'll never happen. Not in "Chicano, Illinois."
