Some commentators are saying we (cops) are paranoid and too sensitive.
Tell you what. Do a little research. Read anything you can about gangs like MS-13. Dig up some research on a few other Latin and South American gangs. Gangs like these TARGET law enforcement. Ask the 010th District people who have had at least one incident of being jumped by MS-13 gang members for the simple offense of being pulled over. Then pick up a paper and read up about the Middle East. Guess what they're targeting? Police Officers. And maybe check out some other stories in Europe and other parts of Asia. Police officers are targets because police officers are the glue that holds society together.
We know what we signed up for. And like any other person who is interested in their job, we follow the changes not just locally, but nationally and internationally. What worries us is our spouse didn't sign up for this job and our kids certainly didn't. What happens when a few psychos locate a cop's name, decide to do a little research and hose down the house with guns one night? Can't happen? Chances remote? Maybe, but maybe not.

The December 13, 1969 Chicago Tribune headlines ran a story "US Opens Probe on Raid". The pictures actually belong to the CPD and were reprinted at the time with permission.
The front wall of Hampton's apartment had 12 newspaper clippings - almost shrine like - with pictures of my Officers Gilhooly and Rappaport with headlines like another cop killed.
There were also pictures of the large cache of weapons found in Hampton's apartment.
We called Mark Donahue @ Chicago FOP and asked them to get the pictures. He is going to work on it.
Apparently, some newspapers were contacted and they refused to print the pictures.
SCC, could you help us if the FOP gets these pictures, to post them here?

The woman’s call was routed to 911 from the homicide unit. She tried to call someone (Det. Chuck Gregory)who how dangerous her boyfriend was. The boyfriend was wanted for a double homicide at the time she killed him.
The woman is no rocket scientist but was a victim nonetheless. The 911 operator classified the victim/caller as a suspect (in Chicago that would be an offender).
The operator told the dispatcher the caller was Black. Not that it makes any difference, she was White.
The woman called 911 told them what she knew only to be arrested by the responding officers who were given misinformation.
Unlike Chicago, Phoenix PD gives volumes of information to the beat coppers. In Chicago it works better that the coppers themselves sort out the stories.
The 911 operator did the best she could with what limited training she had.
This is really more about what a person can expect if they call the police after shooting someone in self-defense.
The woman was charged with murder and a jury later ruled it was self-defense. She was a victim who was victimized twice. Once by her boyfriend and a second time by a flawed system.
I nevr "ripped" the 911 operator. She may have done that to herself.

I read the post about that 911 call on crimefile’s blog. He never trashed the 911 nitwit. She trashed herself live on tape. Maybe perhaps I would have pinched her myself under those circumstances. The operator was goofy and no better or worse than our own civilians!
To answer Crimefile’s question about making a call to 911? No way Jose! Had the dipshit broad never made the call, she remained silent, and nobody saw the shooting there would have been no probable case to make the pinch.
