To upgrade and enhance safety systems at the end of the runways at Midway. This would include a crushable concrete barrier that would slow down out of control airplanes:
- After initially saying crushable concrete barriers at the ends of runways were not feasible, the city Department of Aviation now believes they will work. In fact, the city is prepared to spend up to $40 million to bring it to Midway.
Imagine that. Something that works in about 300 airports around the globe might actually work in Chicago. They must have found just the right concrete manufacturer to create this super duper system for Chicago. At least we'll avoid more pictures like this if they install the system:

This probably needs its own thread but when did the bylaws of the Credit Union change to allow members of The CECC and TMA to become members of OUR credit union. Isn't it a police officer or family members of police only?

The credit union sucks! I've actually received better interest rates at my bank.
What started out as credit union designed to provide low cost financial services to police officers and their families has turned into a huge "for profit" corporation.
If you want good interest rates, go to a bank. They'll beat whatever the credit union can give you.
They still need to do something concerning the intersection of Central & 55th. If you notice how the planes come flying in, say compared to the intersection of Central & 63rd. On the 55th intersection, there are no tall buildings obstructing planes when they fly in, therefore they fly in quite differently. Midway's runway is approx. half of O'Scare's...
I'm not going to pretend to be an expert, but I don't think the landing glide path is really very different from one direction or the other. None of the buildings around Midway are quite that tall. But again I could be wrong. They revoked my Micro$oft Flight Sim 2004 Private Pilot license for repeatedly crashing into my own house.
I'm no expert either but my Uncle was A/F in Korea and my neighborhood flew in the Air Guard when it used to be the Air Force.
These planes have to come into an airport smackdab in the neighborhood. The planes come flying in a lot lower into that intersection and faster.
Anyone who lives in this neighborhood HATES that intersection...

PHILADELPHIA -- A man pleaded guilty to weapons of mass destruction charges for sending a bomb to a Chicago surgeon he said botched his penile enlargement surgery.
Brett Steidler, 25, of Reamstown, Pa., mailed the device in February 2005 because he was "extremely unhappy with the results" of the $8,000 surgery, a federal prosecutor said in court filings.
But Steidler alerted authorities before the bomb arrived and it was disarmed. His attorney, Luis Ortiz, said Steidler is mentally ill and noted the difference between the roughly 2-year sentence for mailing a letter bomb and the 4- to 8-year sentence for using WMD.
"You shouldn't group this guy with people who drive truckloads of explosives to buildings," he said.

As for the Credit Union issue, It seems as it's becoming more of a bank instead of remaining "OUR Credit Union". Iam sure Chase and Harris would be interested in this because Credit Unions enjoy non-for profit status. As banks are in a for profit status with the Federal Govt. Let's question the C.U.on this?
some credit union goof came to the district a few months back and said that they are now allowing Police department civilian employees and non-sworn 911 employees to join "our" credit union with full voting privileges. I said well in theory they could eventually gain control if the P.D. keeps shrinking in manpower and take over our credit union. He laughed nervously and said "oh, that will never happen. "YEAH RIGHT!"

There is a program with credit unions that allows you to do transactions at other credit unions. I found it to be a great program.
I have used American Airlines Credit Union to make an emergency deposit and it was credited into my credit union account.
It is not all as it seems.
our credit union is just like anything else the police have... starts out good but ends up screwing us in the long run.
I was in the credit union president's office on business, and i asked him, "Why did Mahoney leave?"
I was told he left to be closer to wifes family, I replied that it was a shame that Dan Mahoney used his powers to pass a lifetime job to his son, who did not seem to want it.
Got a blank stare.
Next day, Indictment was in the newspaper.
Now he did not have to tell me about the theft, but he could have said "I cant speak about that".

At the time OUR credit union was in the process of denying insurance coverage to the wife of a copper, who had been led to believe that the credit union loans were covered by life insurance.
Credit union denied stating "We stopped giving that coverage about nine years ago".
Funny, I do not remember anything announcing this change.
They said it was contained in a news letter.
I thought we all should have been notified.
They denied.
Wife lost fifty grand.
Couple of years ago, I suggested I might run for credit union board.
That afternoon, I got three phone calls telling me what a pain in the ass position it was.
