The off duty PO used to work for me. He is a fine person, very good officer, and a hard working copper. I am sure he can afford the payment legally unlike so many other hummer owners you see. Like most good hard working coppers he probably works every side job he can get. Goes to court a couple times a week. Works overtime because he makes arrests and probably puts in at least a 60 hour week between all his jobs. Which is about twice the hours most civilian weenies put in. I am proud of him and so is every other CPD copper.

I agree with you, but in 20 years I don't believe I've ever come across a legit person who was carrying. Not once. Perhaps it's because they behave themselves in the first place, thereby not drawing police attention to them selves...

Panel: Cop justified in fatal shootings

Chicago police have determined that an off-duty officer acted in self-defense when he fatally shot two men after they allegedly pointed guns at him at a stoplight on the city's Northwest Side early this morning.
The shooting occurred at a stoplight at Belmont and Kilpatrick Avenues around 2:30 a.m., Chicago police spokeswoman Monique Bond said.
The unidentified Albany Park District tactical unit officer was stopped in his 2003 Hummer when a white pickup truck carrying the two men pulled up very close on his driver's side, police said.
After the pickup pulled up, the 7-year veteran of the force looked over and saw the two occupants of the truck pointing guns at him, Bond said.
Acting in fear for his life, the off-duty officer opened fire, fatally wounding the driver and front-seat passenger in the truck, she said. The officer was not injured.
A spokesman for the Cook County medical examiner's office said both men, estimated in their 20s, were pronounced dead at 4:20 a.m. at the scene.
One victim has been identified as Demetri Centera, 31, of the 4700 block of North Kenneth Avenue, according to the medical examiner's office, while a police spokesman said the other victim was identified as Kenneth Elrod, 31, of the 5400 block of West Carmen Avenue.
Bond did not know if words were exchanged between the officer and the victims prior to the gunfire. No one else was riding in either vehicle.

Just a few thoughts.
1) Weil Olds,Cadillac,GMC, Hummer in Libertyville recently had new 2006 Hummer H3 leases advertised for $299/a month. So even a Section 8 single Mom can afford to drive in style.
2) I am in my 40's, been on the job a while, have no kids and am single by choice..I can afford any new car made today and could even afford to buy a slightly used exotic car (ex. older Bently or ferrari, etc.)
Should that be used to Judge if my shooting is in accordance with State Statute or within Department guidelines? NO it shouldn't!
3)This incident still haunts me..about 3 or 4 summers ago I was visiting my Brothers Grave at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Hillside. It was a weekday about midmorning. (I enjoy the solitude and peace and quiet that visiting there brings me.) Usually, I am there by myself or occasionally one will see an elderly widow or widower visiting a nearby grave. On this morning, I had been there 20-30 minutes when I heard the LOUD "Boom-Boom-Boom" of Bass and the Lyrics of Gangsta rap in the distance. My peaceful morning was shattered by several carloads of "bonifide" gangbanging assholes who proceeded to party and drink and playmusic and dance on top of gravesites a few hundred yards from where I was. I was MAD AS HELL. A few more minutes passed by when I heard about 15-20 gunshots. I looked over and and in the distance observed 3 of the goofs doing the 21 gun salute with pistols. I figured it was time to leave. I was driving my vehicle down the narrow cemetery road to leave but had to go by where they were parked. As timing would have it, as I approached, the 3 assholes decided they had to cross in front of my vehicle while walking to their piece-of-shit car (with the temp tag) to put the guns away. I stopped and waved them by as a normal citizen might do. When I was along side them, I could see them putting the guns in the trunk, I'll never forget the look I got from them. I still remember the eyes and the tattoos. There look was "What the FUCK, are you looking at Bitch?!"
I wasn't scared..but ENRAGED! I reached down towards my side and felt emptiness. Shit, no weapon! I drove all the way home thanking GOD. IF I WAS ARMED, THERE WOULD BE (3) LESS MLD's, Kings, Jivers, or whatever hispanic gang these shitbirds belonged to!
My life would surely have changed in that instant! But, GOD intervened that day. These assholes have no idea how close they came to dying that day!I still regret that moment to this day. I am also very seldom unarmed now!

The two subjects shot are victims. Sorry. But in legal terms they are victim's of a police justifiable shooting/homicide. The word victim doesn't make the person an angel! So relax guys, nothing to get upset about.

Well, actually both of you are sort of correct. There should be two R.D. numbers. The first will be the Aggravated Battery on the officer with him as the victim and the deceased as offenders.
However, there will be a second R.D. for a Justifiable Homicide. It will show that both of the deceased as the victims/offenders, however, the category for the officer will then be "Shot By" in the Supp.
Generally, the original case report will be a one page report and will refer everything to the Justifiable, which will incorporate everything about the investigation.
As far as the Medical Examiner, just because the M.E. rules something a homicide, does not always equate to a Homicide/Murder case report.
You are definitely correct about them never ever having to worry about being offenders again.

What are you talking about two case reports? It is one case report for Agg assault against a p.o for pointing their guns at him, they are listed as offs, he is listed as the victim, plain and simple, the only supp will be the det.s supp........

There can always be more than one detective Supp for any R.D. The GOCR that will be the original will usually have one Supp that refers everything to the other R.D. It is a one paragraph Supp, which will close out that case, i.e. the Agg Batt as a CCX.

Oh, and the originial IUCR doesn't get changed, but the second R.D. which would probably be the Justifiable would get that IUCR code.
