Just Saw WGN News
... and what a piece of shit reporting they did tonight. Here's what they avoided saying on the air:
- Elrod's [one of the OFFENDERS - SCC] wife later told detectives her husband called home and told her he was coming to retrieve a gun because someone at the bar had made him angry, sources said.
- Police said they recovered two handguns, a .38-caliber revolver and a .25-caliber semiautomatic, from the cab of the truck.
- Police said both dead men were known members of the Latin Eagles gang and one had extensive gang tattoos. Both had numerous arrests ...
All of the above is from the Trib article, and WGN must have worked very hard to avoid quoting anything supporting the police, but they accomplished it. And the truly sickening thing about all this is how the media would have spun it the other way if the cop died. We'd see quotes like:
- ambushed by two thugs
- unregistered handguns
- extensive arrest records
- never got a shot off
So what, are we targets now? We have to take fire before we can return it? These jagoff are really pissing us off. The media is the enemy - always remember that. They are definitely NOT your friends and would gladly canonize two thugs if they think they can smear a copper. Kind of like the whole Hampton thing. How soon until Bobby Rush wants a street named after these two dead jagoffs?

The media doesn't care about reporting, but cares about being a tabloid media whore. An example of this is The Daily Southtown newspaper. What's more important news to them is how Jennifer Aniston might be moving here, Paris Hilton's new perfume, the closure of the Dan Ryan, and Mariah Carey to develop a new fragrance line here (today's edition)!!
I have asked them several times to do a series on the Black Panthers. Hell, if I found all this research on them, then they would certainly have more time and access to oher things I don't. Plus, they started an in depth investigation behind the funding of the BPP.

Off topic but aren't our duty availability checks supposed to be $730 before taxes? So why is it our stubs say $680. Seeing that our contract says (on page 55) as of January 1st 2006 that we are supposed to get $730. WAY TO GO YOU MORONS AT FINANCE!!!! DUTY AVAILABILITY CHECKS UPDATE
Today, April 7, 2006, the Lodge received many complaints regarding the Duty Availability checks. Per the Contract, Section 20.13, titled Duty Availability Allowance, effective date is January 1, 2006 for the amount of $730.00 per quarter. What is not stated: you must work a full quarter to be eligible for the $730.00 (January, February & March of 2006).
Duty Availability checks received back in January of 2006 were for $730.00, however, that was an error. The time frame (quarter) was for October, November & December of 2005. Finance made a mistake in issuing the $730.00 check. The correct amount for the January 2006 check should have been $680.00.
Members who receive a Duty Availability check for $680.00 on Friday, April 7, 2006, indicated an adjustment by Finance for the $50.00 difference that is owed back to Finance.
Future checks (August and December 2006) will be for $730.00 each.

WGN News has been off my list for more than 3 years. Steve Sanders, twice in one week made "on air" negative personal comments about the police. Since then I have been watching FOX 32 news to get both sides of the story.
the only ones to blame for what the media does is our upper management of the police department. our mouth piece is monique bond??? excuse me for asking but what makes her qualified to speak about anything related to police work.
is she or was she ever the police ? i think not. we need to start telling it like it is when it comes to these news conferences.
the only one ever to speak honestly and candidly about citizen stupidity was the elmwood park fire chief. he had the balls to say on tv how stupid the people were for parking/stopping on the railroad tracks. he told it like it was and people realized how the crash could have been avoided if it was for the moronic actions of the people who were in a hurry to get home.
The Chicago Police Department needs to have a mouth piece that can remain politically correct(somewhat) but can get the point across of how it really is on the street. I really dont think the media people have a real idea of how bad it has become out on the street.
