Do You Know Where Your Children Are?

The Department is going to start emphasizing Curfew Violations as the summer months begin in an effort to cut down on minors as victims of violent crime. All well and good. A simple solution to what can be a huge problem (coverage here at Channel 2 and Channel 7).

But where is the manpower to enforce such an endeavor? Let's be realistic - we aren't going to be sending our fleetest of foot chasing after curfews when there are dope and gun calls all over the busy districts, many times perpetrated by these same minors. And in the slower districts, curfews are fewer because parents are more involved. Unless you can educate the parents and make them care about where their kids are and who they're with, this is quite a bit of smoke and a little bit of mirror.

And don't start with the race baiting - this is about parenting and we know PLENTY of minority parents who keep an eye on their kids and make sure they're home at reasonable hours and know their friends and such.

Just came over the fax machine. Department is phasing out all crown vics and impalas and going to the tahoes. The beat cars should get them soon. The department will handle the Tahoe as a wagon as far as pursuits go. NO MORE AT ALL

You should check the cars for curfews while you are doing your seatbelt missions on the D.O.C.!

Did Cline want the officers on scene to curfew the victim?

Curfews: another effort by the "state" (i.e., the CPD) to substitute itself for parents who are either non-existent or non-functional). Another sensational suggestion by the liberals to have government try and do what people either can't or won't do for themselves. Just another Democratic fantasy, added to all of the others...

The "It's 10:30, do you know whrer your children are?" PSA's sound like a good idea at first, what with the 60" T.V.'s and all.
But will they get the PSA's with the playstation and satelite?

I hate to throw out an idea that would cost money, but a lot of society's issues with children would likely disappear if we made school year round, like 45-48 weeks.

I'd blame the teachers unions, but not even the Catholic schools have moved to such a system in Chicago.

Its not like the kids are needed to help in the fields on the south and west sides.

Maybe 40 weeks for K-4 and 48 weeks for 5-12?

Just a thought, but if anyone has ideas why not (er, besides cost), I'm all ears. I think costs would be offset by significantly fewer problems with our juvenilles, and significantly lower costs for all the social programs that replace school in the summer (like do nothing jobs programs).

I remember the good old days when getting your curfews required only a phone book or a good imagination.

If "those" parents gave a flyin' fuck in the 1st place, do ya think there would be such a problem? "They" have enough problems as it is: Booze, Dope, Finance, being 15 and having a kid, and the list goes on, and on. The bad thing is some of the "intellectuals" at the Roman Senate/Ivory Tower/Ft Kool-Aid are taking this game of the little boy with his finger in the dyke a little too serious!

The Department has gotten to the point where they expect us to save the world with no resources. We have done such a great job in the last couple of years with so few resources the Hall figures they can keep piling on jobs for us to do in 8 hours. We can handle going door to door in 007 and catching gang bangers in 011 at the same time.

I did like the comment from the short round guy that the door to door was the Mayor's idea so when we get sued for the civil rights violations we can blame him when we give away another 10 mil or so.

As for the Tahoes, they only have a few, damn things cost 60k, we could buy 3 squads for every Tahoe. I am starting a pool to see what District rolls the first one. Great fiscal planning on the Department for these. Gets about 10 mpg and costs 3 x as much as a car. If you get behind the wheel of one of these realize you are driving your next raise.

012th dist has a new tahoe as well....pretty cool...saw 011 has one too..looks cool hope Phil sticks to his word and purchases more....its about time this dept gives a little back to the troops in the form of decent equipment!! We look like stepchildren to other municipalities we need to get up to par with other depts in many ways....how about those new computers??? moving pretty slow with them ...and next move should be rifles or shotguns in cars...at least supervisors cars....

The police price on the Tahoe is around 24K; that's for the two wheel drive version that CPD is purchasing. The gas mileage is about the same as the Crown Vic. Maintenance costs are about the same as the CVPI and slightly less than the Impala. Besides, with Helicopter Harry in operation now, there is no reason for pursuits.

Crime is caused by coppers kids. Most of the biggest jag-offs in the hood were cops kids. There was an E.T. who worked in 023 that sold fireworks he stole at work to people in the hood! (he's retired now) But he's now a beefer on the police in 016. P.S. Don't mess with his kids! Lives on 1621 beat.

TO THE OFFICERS WHO LIVE IN 16. HAVE YOU BEEN SEEING PEOPLE WHO DON'T BELONG THERE LATELY? WHEN I COME HOME AND SEE PEOPLE FROM MY BEAT IN 16, THAT'S A PROBLEM. WHEN YOU HAVE SOME HISPANIC GANGBANGERS HANGING OUT THERE, THAT'S A PROBLEM. IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS I HAVE SEEN M/1'S JUST HANGING OUT ON SOME CORNERS AND I CALL 16. I AM SICK OF SEEING THIS AND AM WONDERING IF ANY OF YOU ARE NOTICING TOO. SOME M/1'S JUST TAGGED SOME GARAGES ON FAR NORTHWEST SIDE AND WHEN NEIGHBORS CALLED 911, IT TOOK FOREVER TO COME OUT AND THE POLICE TOLD THEM THEY SAW THEM RUNNING AND THEY WERE GONG. THIS IS A BREWING PROBLEM AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO GET DONE ABOUT IT. HOW ABOUT WE ALL START CALLING DOHERTY'S OFFICE AND COMPLAINING. I DON'T WANT TO SEE MY AREA TURN TO SHIT.
