- We PREDICTED Ryan would be convicted. We cheered it. Ryan was no more a Republican than Daley is a Democrat - they are both CORRUPT scumbags who steered A LOT of business into the hands of connected poeple. You think Richie isn't sweating bullets right now?
- We are HAPPY Ryan got convicted. The Republican party has ceased to exist in Illinois as a viable entity. This may enable the party to move beyond business as usual now that it's over, but we aren't too hopeful. Maybe after a few more convictions come down or Meeks runs for office.
- Dems take over the House? Doubt it. All politics is LOCAL. Local issues drive House races. The Dems need 15 seats to take over the House and they aren't going to get more than 6 or 7. They have a better chance at the Senate and even that looks like only 3 seats are seriously in play. You're forgetting to look at the entire poll - Congress has lower approval ratings than Bush.
In the meantime - ALL of the Local News links in our right hand column are overflowing with Ryan coverage. We hope he is sentenced to a nice long stretch in the Federal pen. It is a happy day for Illinois.

This will allow us to view your performance as a whole and identify our high performing officers and also those who need help. This is not a disciplinary system. It is an early intervention system, allowing us to provide counseling or additional training before a problem warrants discipline. The system will also allow for the recognition of successful performance and allow those who perform well to be fairly considered for better assignments.
We will continue to work closely with all of the affected unions to develop the Personnel Performance System, keeping them involved every step of the way. A great investment is made with each recruit attending training at the Academy. Our investment shouldn’t stop there, though. We want our officers to develop into good leaders and this Personnel Performance System will help accomplish that goal.

In almost 30 years on the job I have seen many list come out on the close of business on a Friday. The idea was that the department had time to contact everyone but there would not be time before Monday for someone to get in front of a judge like Prentiss Marshall to stop the promotions. But that was in the days when you got the rank and pay of the promotion at the start of the class, not at the end as they do it now.
And who is taking bets or saying prayers that Daley is indited before the end of his term. Any takers?
