Happy Birthday to Us!
An entire year of blogging. It certainly doesn't feel like a year, but the archive page says we posted for the first time on 31 May 2005, so it must be a year. Over 1,100 posts, almost 340,000 visitors and well over 1.5 million page views. What a run it's been. Thanks to everyone who contributes, posts, comments, e-mails, chats us up and so on. We wouldn't do it without readers. Let's keep it going.

By-laws to FOP LODGE 7 were submitted at the general meeting in May.
An effort to remove the two sgts who are currently on the Board
Sgt Voight
Sgt Majerczyk
and ANY SGTS in the future
Both assigned to second watch 005 th district
The other is to remove dues for Retirees as a "condition of membership"
An outside cost package equal to the dues currently charged retirees will REPLACE ANY LOST REVENUE TO THE LODGE>
If a retiree wants and FOP book or stickers or a mailed newsletter he will be charged for those items currently included in the dues now charged.
The current leadership has used retiree dues issue to eliminate individuals from the FOP
at the same time Donahue and Co make a huge issue to spend dues to enter a lawsuit that the courts have thrown them out of just to play the
both sides of the fence..
The vote will be at the Sept general meeting and 2/3 is needed to pass.
Sgts or maybe Lts in the furure Voight was merit Sgt maybe merit LT.

Anybody been to the Department counseling office EAP and have to deal with their gay MARRIAGE counselor? What gives? One meeting was enough for me and the mrs. So much for another one of our department benefits.
I've been retired 6 years and the wife has had at least 5 mamo's and she has been charged for everyone. They charge us more $$$ for less coverage. But I guess we should be thankful for that.I t costs me $450 @ month X 12 = $5400 @ year + all the meds I guess it costs me more the $7000 for all that bullshit. Then all the Dr. visits. Be prepared when you pull the pin.

When we came on the job we were making 36,500. everything changes. What do we have a union for? If not to get us better things??? You can live here and raise your kids here, I am on the first bus out!
I came on under civil service and they told us your medical would be paid for by the city when we retired (32+1 day). They lied to me and changed all the promises.
They took away civil service with the stroke of a pen and shafted everyone with those merit quotas.
Never, Never, Never, trust the city on their word. Those handshakes are fast forgotten.
Start putting your money in deferred compensation or some other investment plan, because when your ready to leave, you will need every buck you can find.
The mayor and maggie have theirs put away and could care less about your medical, vision, and dental plans.

First 3 days leave you wanting MORE. TARA stands for Terrorism Awareness & Response Academy.
You get the awareness part but the response part is nowhere to be found. No fault of the instructors but day 4 and 5 was replaced with inservice training/refresher on department policy/general orders. ie. vehicle pursuits, use of force, handling in custody deaths, and a few others. Thats what they taught when I went in March. I understand it has evolved a little bit since then.
The short comings of ongoing in-service training by the CPD is handled the last 2 days.
Probably the best training I ever recieved by the Department.
Close call between the Marine guy who does bullet-proof mind. Wish that I had taken that before my shooting had occured!!

The Current Sgt list is not down. It is still active and will not be taken down until the second part of the new test is graded and certified by the city. Probably 4-6 months from 24 Jun test date. It is very likely there will be more promotions from the current list.

Other times we delete ad hominem attacks on certain races, classes, genders and creeds just because our grandmothers visit every so often and we don't want them to have an attack of the vapors. Granny's heart ain't what it used to be.
We also delete stuff that appears in two or more threads. Especially the BIG stuff. You like it so much, you can follow the thread as it moves down the page. It isn't difficult.
And if someone posts entire articles instead of links, we delete that as a matter of course - it's a copyright issue.
Anything else, we make up as we go along.

They were promised Medical Care for free when they retired.
Our pensions were once solvent.

It may be chump change now, but back then you were able to buy a house, own a car, put your kids through school and whatever else you needed. When I came on this job, I was making $12,500. Obviously, you were not even a twinkle in your father's eye at that time. But had you told me that I could be making 100K as a police officer, I would have thought you were nuts.
So, the point of this retort is that salaries, house prices, car prices, etc. are all relative to the time. And you, Mr. or Ms. Nitwit, will get old (hopefully), as well!

009 is very busy and those guys do work pretty hard, big backlogs all night long, alot of gang shootings etc, and the district is huge, it can be just as busy as 011 on any given night......
