Yes, the camera vans are finally upon us. Two of them are going to be in the Dan Ryan construction area for the next few months. The fine for speeding through the construction area is $375 for the first offense and $1,000 PLUS a suspended license for the second. The cameras are taking pictures of the plates and the drivers. Stories in the Tribune and Sun Times.
What we'd REALLY like to see however, is how many cars DON'T come back to the addresses and drivers that are photographed. The failure rate for deliverable citations is going to be rather high we think. How about some of our Trooper readers keep us informed of that little statistic?
In the meantime, we'd advise you to take steps to avoid getting a large hit in the wallet. Obey the law, avoid the Ryan, and maybe get one of these:

The best way to get around this garbage is not own a car! Should you need a car have it titled, registered and insured to an relative who lives in another state! It should be registered to an surban address that does not require a city sticker.
Have that relative sign a power of attorney that allows you to buy.
sell, insure, or register that car on their behalf.

the photoblocker doesn't work. REcently saw a consumer report that tested it. Same report, showed that some of the claims made by the company, ie. tested in Colorado, are bogus.

The best solutiuon to this problem is to move north and transfer to a north side district, then you don't have to use the Ryan. All you morons who brag non-stop about your "cheap" house on the south side can shove the $375 ticket up your ass! I might have paid twice as much for my house on the north side, but at least I can throw a rock in my neighborhood without hitting a crackhead. FUCK THE SOUTHSIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While I'm on this rant, why the fuck do they need to "improve" the Ryan anyway. I doubt it's because people from the southside are complaining about congestion and long work commutes. The only people that use the Ryan are bustouts who need to get on the Skyway so they can blow all they're money on the boats!

The van takes photos of your rear plate. It should be good when someones baby's mama's third cousin's play sister gets the ticket for the plates she got paid $50 to buy. Of course nothing will happen. Only honest people pay fines.

Regarding the Photoblocker, I said a consumer report, i.e. a television consumer report segment, did several tests using actually photo cameras and the three products that Photoblocker sells, including the spray, the cover and the filtered cover. The tests were done in cooperation with a local sheriffs office who radared the speeder, and the actual cameras that take pictures of the plates, In some instances the photostuff actually made the numbers easier to read. I made no reference to the Consumer Report magazine. Save your money it doesn't work. The same consumer report segment contacted various sources cited in Photoblocker adds, and several said they never tested the product, nor said it works. Save your money, or find alternate means of masking your plates.
Other Po's in traffic, public vehicle and 1st dist. have also written po's and fam. member's, along with numerous other dist's. whether by accident or circumstance. What is being alluded too is the tic. issue was intentional. Policeman hide behind the word cop.

Don't get caught with your legit plates on. Keep them in the trunk. Go to a dollar store and buy two rebel flag plates or whatever and use them front and rear.
Then you can go as fast as you want to.
If you are involved in an off-duty traffic accident and need to call 9-1-1, unless it is a 10-1, do not tell the call taker you are a P.O.
If you do tell them, it is likely that Operations Command will be notified and will want to ask all kinds of questions and complicate your life.
Best to be discrete, on the phone, with the other party and discretely tell the responding officer.
