Homicides Down Some More

  • Chicago's homicide total is down slightly for the first six months of the year, police officials said Friday.

So far in 2006, 201 people have been murdered, Supt. Phil Cline announced. At this time last year, there had been 210 murders.

    That's a decline of 4.3 percent.
Harrison/Fillmo'/011 continues it's torrid pace, up from 10 homicides in the first 6 months last year to 22 already through June this year. Let's buckle down a bit there boys and girls, eh? On the other hand, 4.3% sounds so much more impressive than a reduction of only 9 murders, doesn't it? Remember, it's all in the presentation.

Are the yuppies moving in? The ghetto moving out? Both?

How is 021 these days? From my distant perch I hear that its most entirely gentrified now, with some (surprising) parts of 002 not far behind.

001? Check
002? Half-check
003? Fugheddabout it.
004-008? Say good night Gracie!
009? Returnin in fits and starts
010? Yeah, right
011? There's yuppies in the east?
012? Check
013? Check
014? Check almost entirely.
015? Yeah, right.
016? Going, going...
017? Where the hell is 017?
018-021? Check
022? Buh bye.
023? Check
024? Check
025? Turn out the lights there.

So whats that leave us?

Well, the lakefront up to Hyde Park so far. Plus almost all areas within 3 or 4 miles of downtown, and large areas of the north/northwest side.

Question for the young and old. Would you buy a home today in 008, 016, 022 or 025? If so, why? Far as I can tell, the trend ain't your friend in any of em.

Andrews pretends to be a detective almost as much as he pretends that he is straight. "The ultimate leader is one who is willing to develop people to the point that they eventually surpass him or her in knowledge and ability."

It use to be that the Detective Division relied on its experience from seasoned Detectives, Sergeants, Lieutenants and Commanders to train the up and coming. When you have a Commander that does not have that experience and consistently overrides the decision of his managers the system beaks down. The Detectives have stopped trying to do more because they are tired of being slapped down by Dean. The Lieutenants and Sergeants have been rendered ineffective because the men they manage know that their decision doesn’t matter and that the decision will always be up to Dean and no one else. The supervisors lack the intestinal fortitude to stand up to Dean for what they believe in fear of losing their precious spot or being dumped to midnights. Dean dumps supervisors and detectives with no expectation and no regard for their work, experience, or the personal hardship it may cause; for some personnel this was too much to bear. Dean makes his management decisions based on personal reasons and how it affects only Dean, regardless what it best for the Division or the police officers they serve.

Andrews is not a leader, he expects people to listen and follow because he wears a gold star and not because he has earned their respect for the position he holds. The difference between a good Commander and Dean is; Dean says, Go! – a true boss says, Let’s go!
Andrews cannot expect to hold the loyalty of his detectives when he speaks to them as if they are insignificant. Andrews its time to look and the mirror and see the person you have become and not the god you think you are!

"Clout may get you to the top, but it takes character to keep you there."

You hit it right on the head. I do not work for Andrews but you could replace his name with a lot of our exempt members on this dept and what you said rings true. We have always had clout on the Dept but the difference is that before the clout people, Dist commanders and above were never seen. They stayed away and got drunk on duty. I'm not saying its right but the Sgt and to a lesser extent the Lt's were left to run things. When I came on you never spoke with the DC and hardly ever saw the WC. They had clout, they knew it but stayed away. Now these exempts for the most part were at one time or another meritoriously promoted then made exempts. They now believe they know better then those under them. the Det division is a perfect example of this. there are people with many years experience there who are being told how to do their jobs by Merits with less time and no experience in the unit. This is why Officers and Dets do not try as hard. It sucks going into a test already 30 percent down because you have no clout. I could go on and on but I know I'm preaching to the choir. Everybody be safe and don't let these idiot exempts put you in harms way.

Hmmm... Here's a thought:

If we, as a Department, are all about "accountability", why is it the former district commanders of both 011 (Starks) and 014 (Maher) were promoted when their respective districts each experienced a dramatic homicide increase in 2003/2004 during their tenure as commander? Under accountability, shouldn't they have been demoted rather than promoted?

Now I see the 011th District is once again experiencing an increase in homicides. According to the department's "accountability" logic, this commander should be due for a promotion to Deputy Chief in the very near future.

Man Killed On Red Line Tracks
Victim Apparently Intoxicated
(CBS) CHICAGO An unidentified retired Chciago Police Officer was killed early Saturday when he fell onto the tracks at a downtown subway station and contacted the third rail.

At about 1:40 a.m., the CTA was notified "that a customer was on the right-of-way at Harrison," said CTA spokeswoman Kim Myles.

The man, believed to be about 68 years old, according to police, apparently was intoxicated and fell onto the third rail at the Harrison station. The victim was pronounced dead at 4:15 a.m. at the Stein Institute, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Myles said no train was involved in the incident and that Chicago police were investigating early Saturday to determine exactly what happened.

Red Line trains were re-routed over the elevated tracks downtown after the incident, Myles said. By 3:11 a.m. both northbound and southbound Red Line trains had resumed use of the subway tracks.

You mean Commander "heemee haw" Jackson? He couldn't solve a one piece puzzle let alone be able to come up with a good plan to reduce the crime rate. That's why he has Rick Flair doing the work for him with his bullshit raa raa speaches and telling everyone they are the best of the best. Funny how his reaction to being told that no-one wants to be on gang teams because of the hours was just a nice moment of silence. Maybe part of him realized that the plan is not as good as it seemed in the first place. And PLEASE stop trying to encourage us with these "this is where the real police work" stories. no-one cares but you and no-one wants to be there but you. Pretty sad really. To 10:44, suck my sweaty sack, the only reason you don't see us there is that you're sitting around the station comparing fake war stories with the other 5 year and under p.o.'s while we're out there teaching your animals some manners. You see, the reason we get called to 011 is because we have actually REDUCED crime in our districts and the bosses are hoping we can teach you kids a trick or two about the difference between "policing" and "posing". One day you'll have enough time to bid out like i did but until then i will visit your district once in awhile and still be able to go back to my district the next day and have my starbucks while checking out the women without 8 kids that have 8 different dads who love the police and make my job a pleasure. FOR THOSE CONCERNED - THE JOB IS REALLY TURNING-HIRE MORE POLITICALLY CORRECT PERSONS

BREAKING NEWS, another great decision by our command staff. Police Officers had to put down a dog (animal) in the 008th District at approximately 1030hrs. today after it had attacked 2 little girls. Well, after doing the Miscellaneous Incident Exception Card ADS Sandra K. Day (Operational Services)arrived and demanded Detectives. A call to the A/1 was met with, no detectives are need and none are coming out. ADS Day called C.O. Walsh of A-1 who ordered a team of Detectives sent out on this Police Shooting!. A Police Shooting!, do these two dumb broads have any idea what they are doing. Day and Walsh wanted to know how many holes were in the dog and had the dog taken to Western Ave. to be checked out at Animal Control. These two dumb broads wanted and thought the gun should be inventoried and Crime Lab personnel sent out. Thanks to the Detectives, it was stopped. Come on Cline are you reading the reports Day and Walsh are submitting.
If true, this is hilarious. What the hell is being promoted nowadays? "Merit" by what stretch of the imagination?

People, stop w/the insane bull crap. Think about it, It took two months to get your test results back for a SCANTRON test. So in order for you to believe that this nonsense to be true, you have to forget about reality for a few moments and believe that 30-50 college interns are scoring ESSAY tests, with each test being REGRADED two to three times. Multiply this by 3500-4000 tests. You do the math! You will not see your test results/rankings till January 07 the very earliest.

I live in 016. Yes there are changes, but they are good for the most part (though my property value is declining) . Many of the Eastern Europeans and hispanics moving in provide a diverse culture to an otherwise bland neighborhood (man do these hotties wear very little clothing during the summer time). Since I have children, I am happy that they can intermingle with people of other ethnic backgrounds (can't wait to see what the babysitter is wearing tonight). I made sure that they learned to speak Spanish so that they can be more cultured and communicate with the recent arrivals( so my landscaper really understands what I want done in the backyard). 016 is getting to be a better place because of the diversity and multicultualism (my garage was a great investment and has nothing to do with the fact of not being able to park on my street because of all of the "extended families" hot bunking in the basements of all the bungalows).
