If anyone caught the Channel 5 News tonight, the number of PO's allegedly stripped over at Special Operations is up to 4. A sergeant is also under house arrest and a detective associated with the team is driving a desk at HQ. And according to our moles, it's only going to get bigger - as in we aren't even to the halfway point yet. Stormy weather ahead boys and girls.

If it was aggressive policing, this sucks for everyone involved. Channel 5 made it seem it was a clear case of greed...stealing money from bad and good guys. If that's true I feel a little better about the system.

This has been going on in SOS for some time. I also heard that they hit a DEA safe house, which brought all of this to a head. Next question, will any exempts take a fall for this? I know a couple that should.
they are saying that the feds are going to investigate benefits hosted by members of SOS to see where the money went, some people are saying that money that was going to the police memorial fund, found its way into a certain patrolmens personal bank account! if thats true that patolmen should fucking kill himself.

Maybe then they could earn their way to the District level Tactical or Gang Team. It's time for the rest of these children to be adequately supervised. What really steams me and others is that if you dont have a seat belt on you get a day off,you dont have your vest on you get a day off, you dont come clear from a job, stop at a coffee shop you get a day off. That is the most played out bunch of shit! By "working police" you mean coppers willing to break every rule to get what they want, be it an arrest, a court date or maybe some street peel. I've been the "working police" for 18 years and have very few CR numbers. And you know what? The ones I have gotten, I deserved!
There is a big difference between acting like a professional while still working, and acting like a lawless thug while claiming that you are working for a means to an end!
You can claim all the bullshit you want about being the working police, but everyone here knows that anyone who racks up 30-40 CR's a year ( all not sustained as usual ) and has had FIVE, that's right FIVE fucking Federal lawsuits, something ain't right with that person.

I've worked in 6 different Districts and several Units, including SOS. Let me tell you something "wet behind the ears", every unit has its J**offs, every unit has great workers, and then theres a bunch that fall in there somewhere in between. SOS is no different, with the exceptiuon that most fall more towards the worker end of the scale. To this day, even with this current fiasco, I'd gladly work with 80% of those guys and gals who are very hard workers trying to do the right thing day in day out. So kindly shut your face, quit your b****ass wineing, and do some work. Of course your the greatest cop that worked the street and obviously if you are not in the unit, then they must "comprised of serious fools". Give me a break.

OK let's look at Phil and the Marquette 10 (Derango, Ambrose, guide, Haas, Eatman, Pena, Smentek, Bauer, Lowery and Gang Crimes guy Desimone). Phil was a tact sgt in 10, leaves to go to Narco and takes down the dope dealers Milton Kelly, Green Smith and CW Wilson, all with dope operations in 10. Coincidental or is it because a Tribune columnist named Bob Weidrich was writing daily columns about the dope in 10 stuff, ala Kass' style. After being arrested the dope dealers complain to the feds about the police. Perhaps Phil was just doing a good job, or was he covering the bases, when they started to complain about the police, him included. Didn't Phil and the primary US Attorney on the case Schweitzer have an altercation in the hall at the Federal building, where Schweitzer pointed at Phil and said "I'm coming after you next", Phil's response, "take your best shot counselor". Is this a case of a prosecutor knowing whats going on, covering his informants tracks or a battle of egos. Nevertheless the animosity continues to exist between the two until this day, with the former AUSA writing a letter to Daley, urging him not to name Phil supt.

I remember years ago in 018 when Hinchey intervened in a tavern fight and took down 6 guys with guns. All by himself. And he was the W/C. Very impressive guy. Sorry to see what happened to him.
Be careful how much you defend these guys - at least one of the f*******g "dope dealers" who's home they invaded was another off-duty copper with his wife, brother, sister-in-law, and children present. When ODPO tried to call for a supervisor they manhandled him and handcuffed him and his wife and tore up the house before leaving when a supervisor finally showed up.
Each one of these guys has been sued in Fed Ct. 3-4 times and usually together. All kinds of bell should have been going off for a long time.
Bet none of them took a day either from OPS or IAD.
I really hate to see you guys bashing each other with such glee. I'm now retired after spending 37 years with what I regard as the finest group of people I ever knew. Please remember one thing above all else, "you are all blue." Wait until everything plays outs before you make your judgements. This job has always had its good and its bad. All you guys talk about the Marquette ten like you were there. It happened well over twenty years ago. I was there.
What realllly happened? CW and Co. figured our a way to eliminate their competition after CW got nailed by DEA (possibly Cline involved). He became an informant and as each one of his competitors went down, he took over their operations along with his partners.
The DEA got wise to this when all of his info dried up and naturally they came after him. He cried about how he was paying off cops to the US Attorney. Dan Webb and Schweitzer, who really hates cops, had the FBI investigate with DEA. Voila! Indictments.
No one ratted out or got CRs or anything else. It was a case of a dope dealer to smart for himself and cop hating AUSAs.
The case almost did not go to court. The newly elected Reagan's US attorney, who liked the police, did not want the case prosecuted. Webb and Schweitzer flew to DC and cried, pissed and moaned. They threatened to take the case to the media. They threatened to tell the media how they had spent something like 14million dollars on this and they were not going to be allowed to prosecute and all that money would be wasted. They won out.
After the trial, Webb "left the US Atty's office and went into private practice. There was some story that he had molested one of his kids or step kids, but it was hushed up.
The cop hater Sweitzer was transferred to Boston. This guy was so bad, he even hated Federal Agents, including the FBI. He butted some heads in Boston and was told that if he kept hating law enforcement, especially his own Federal agents there would be a new Boston Tea Party and he would be the tea. He disappeared from public life and nothing is know about him since.
My question is why is a twentysomething year old so fascinating to most of you who were in diapers when it happened? Oh yeah, gotta blame Cline for something.

Why are some of you guys trying to defend the thieves from SOS? When the thieves from 007th district were outed in January 2006, no one on this site were stroking them by saying innocent until proven guilty. I work in SOS and have to say there a few pompous asses there. I go to work everyday and make a pinch. Thats all. Sometimes my team and I get a good pinch, or are able to stumble onto something good. I don't walk around other districts and swagger like a superstar, I don't talk down to other po's and act like my shit don't stink. I don't walk into other districts and act like I own the place. I would be ignorant to say there are those in the unit that don't do the before mentioned things, but not all of us do that. I am not a son of a supervisor, however I do have friends and family on the job. That combined with a good work ethic and good arrest record before I went there got me to SOS. I did have to fill out an application, as does everyone that goes there. I did have to interview with the commander. I actually work TARA on my day off for time and a half and enjoy riding on jobs and doing the mundane paper jobs as you put it. Don't judge all of us by a few that have been accused of of wrongdoings and don't judge all of us by those that act like they run the place when they walk into your station. I like doing the job that I have and I am fortunate to be where I am. It is your right to say what you want about the unit, actually I am amused by most of what you say, because It doesn't apply to the team that I work on and to myself. It does bother me because they are my co-workers and I wish I could do something to change their attitude. Be mindful, there is a difference between cocky and confident, be able to discern which is which before you make a judgement on someone. Be safe out there!

I will say that some of my fellow workers have relatives on the job and yes some of these guys have swollen heads/chests and think that they are gods gift to the CPD-but also we know who they are and either aviod them or laugh at them just the same. They too are asshats! My point is, don't judge the whole unit because one group is under the ever watchful eye of IAD/CPD/CCSA or whomever. It's not up to me or you to judge them(unless you get called for jury duty if it goes that far).If they take a plea or are found guilty,well fuck em' I say. 1st. SOS will not be disbanded, if anything there would be whole sale supervisor changes.
2nd. New procedures will be put in place to keep track of each P.O.
working in units. Such as getting rid of unmarked cars. These procedures will affect the entire department. So you too will feel the pain.
3rd. If the S.O.S. guys get moved to districts and work beat cras you will have more jobs to handle,
bcause the S.O.S. guys will leave roll call,and lock someone up and be in the station doing the paper.

Yes, I have seen the Super on the street. Hillard, and Starks personally visited every standing post at a VIP function; he asked my partner and I if we had a lunch relief. We said no, so he stood our post so we could grab a quick bite. Hillard was at a charity function and when it was over he made a point of walking across the parking lot to my partner and me, as we were flagging traffic, Cumberland and Higgins, to say thank you, chit-chat. Sorry to disappoint the phil apologist.
And as an aside, the moral on this Dept has never been worse, phil and the mayor have wrecked this Dept. There are no more good spots except maybe Fugitive Apprehension. The people promoted lately are the worst group of bosses ever; they're are a big collection of no-balls- write-you-up, shitbags; and we can only thank your man phil.
SOS is not what it once was. I was in SOS for numerous years. It was fun and I had more fun with the district working cops than most of the SOS guys. Though, ten years ago the SOS guys were pretty good. If you're a good cop...you're a good cop. It doesn't matter where you're at or how much juice you have. However,no one can be a good cop today. Cameras everywhere, shit bosses and the coppers will "rat" everyone out-like the scum bag in 018 who testified against his partner. Be careful guys and #1 is your family!!

As a officer with over 2 decades on this job, I dont buy the plea by SOS officers of how their not involved, their hard working, BS. I don't know did the Marquette 10 do what was alleged, don't know. But here are some facts, yes an officer purchased a vehicle from a dope dealer knowing he was a dope dealer, yes they received free car washes at the dope dealers car wash, yes one of them went on vacation with the dope dealers "bitch", yes some of them received free construction work from a dope dealers contractor. Does this make them guilty, don't know, but this stuff that the G was able to provide actual proof of, helped to cement all the bullshit the government dope dealers and users testified to, in the minds of the jury. And yes Phil was a Sgt. at the time, look up the records and stop spreading shit, you know nothing about. If you maintain Phil wasn't a Sgt. look at the records for his date of Sgt. look where he was assigned. The person that said talk to someone in a bar on Halsted st to find out the truth, knows exactly what he or she is talking about. That person was a tac man in 010 for many moons.
I was in 010 well before, during, and well after the Marquette 10 stuff. My recollection is that Cline was NEVER a Tact Sgt in 010. In fact I believe he was only there for a very short time after making Sgt in 1977. He then went back to Narcotics. There were lots of rumors as to what he did to hurt those guys as well as help them. Nothing was ever substantiated to my knowledge.
To answer 4:53 yes Buzzy went after CW Wilson, because Wilson started or continued dealing dope again after the trial and the government cut him sack for his testimony against the M10. Buzzy is a great person and a terrific copper. It was somewhat tenuous because, everyone of those assholes (the dope guys turned government witnesses) walked around with US Attorney's cards in their pockets, almost daring the police to touch them after the trial. Although Buzzy has done many heroic things in his police career, not to mention his Marine time, in my opinion this was the greatest. Just think going after the son of a bitch for violating the law, knowing full well everything you do will be reviewed by nine thousand shitbag feds.

Well I guess this SOS stuff all started when someone complained the police stole from them. The case is handled as a police impersonator case and the truth it turns into the real police stealing. So much for living your life unsullied.
SOS was the last remnants of Gang Crimes (North/South/West) when it was broken up on 01Jan1993. The Select few (clout) went to SOS.
The rest were the District Gang Teams. I was not there so I don't know what the facts are or what really happened. I was in SOS about 10 years ago and we had a great group of coppers there....everyone worked with the exception of a few...and I mean few guys who are now bosses....even the old timers worked!! It was a great unit!! and the reason it was agreat unit was because you had good bosses....and the reason SOS now sucks is because you have shit bosses plain and simple!! I worked for FB and the "Baron" two of the best bosses you could ever work for...there was no fucking around because they knew how to run that place....when the jagoff ADS took over and backstabbed those two guys and ran them out the unit went in the direction it is now in....plus they took on like 200 more coppers...I was one of about 130 coppers at the time I was there and it was a more "elite" type of unit then...not the 350 or so it is today...way out of control!I'll say it again...Fred and the Baron were the best...this shit would not have been going on if they were here....no fucking way... they would not have it..Labiak was an exception...he was a fuckup dope head but was an isolated case...and he got trimmed. Then Hilliard came on and it wasn't so bad. He helped sand bag some black officers for a bad shooting. The rumor spread that one of the officers had an affair with the driver and (Latanya Haggerty shooting), all the officers were fired. No one stood up for these officers. The CPD is filled with a lot of good cops( the reason I stay). It is also filled with a lot of scum (I mean a lot of scum). They help perpetuate and spread rumors and other bullshit. They are the eyes and ears of the Democrats that run this city.
Phil Cline. Well lets say I'm not his biggest fan or his biggest critic. He took this job because he wanted more money and maybe he thought he could fix some things. Problem is that you need someone from outside the department. We're all to close on this department to really reform things. To much family, to many friends. Cline took some half measures in good faith (like making everyone go to the ghetto), but sometimes I think they did more harm than good (now everyone in the ghetto is burned out and nobody who knows what they're doing wants to work there).
I don't think Cline is a bad guy, but he is going to smell like a bucket of shit if even half of what I hear comes down on this department. He allowed himself to be turned into a stooge. That is how he is going to be remembered.

you(s) are right you need a phone call to get there. However, it is not what it once was or what you might think. Guys leave there all the time. That NEVER happened ten-fifteen years ago. There are not too many happy guys in SOS and it'll get worse. So be careful what you wish for!!! Good luck and try to look on the bright side...You could be JF!!

arrest of one of the dope dealers/government witness involved in the Marquette 10 affair. He and two other mopes grabbed a bunch of office machines from a accounting business in 010.
