Channel 2 and Channel 7 are reporting that Dorothy Brown is poised to run for mayor and will make an announcement in the next day or two. The only question in our minds is "who put her up to it?" Junior is making noises about not even entering the race. Meeks is a grandstander and a joke candidate. Gutierrez appears to be the only minority running against Daley in the primary.
Suddenly Dorothy jumps in? Sorry. Too convenient. Too typical of the Machine. She's big enough to draw all sorts of support from Gutierrez and help Daley breeze to the nomination. And we doubt that the Republicans will even field a candidate again this year, meaning Daley wins by acclimation in 2007 without even facing a General Election.

U hit it right on the head SCC, it looks and stinks of a classic Machine set-up!! Im still p*ssed about the last one, where gangbanger Rev. meeks(mearaday's handler) was propped up against da Fueher. Yet these Hyde park and lakefront/Lakeview liberals say nothing of this mockery of our so-called democracy. And why cant the Repubs put up a good guy/gal to run against this "cabal". Maybe w/some pushing from the SCC brotherhood(we're getting stronger) and the FOP(pardon my crap attempt at humor;yea f*cku DonaPuke)we can push this Perica guy to quit the Crook Cty thing and go after El Duce's throne. He's pro 2nd Amend; thats a good start for me.
If he runs, Daley will win. There is no serious white candidate that would dare challenge him, and decent black candidates have either been bought off, or have other offices that are too good to give up. Little Louis can't beat him. At least not yet. No I can't stand Daley either, but unless something very interesting comes up from the Feds soon, he will run and unfortunately win.
Gutierrez is very, very, very gay. In the spirit of former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevy, living such a big lie ends up reflecting on how you live your political life. McGreevy went down for living a lie and appointing his unqualified boyfriend to a big state post. I hope he runs, I love a circus. Don't know anything about Brown.

SCC you are off base. Dorothy Brown is a viable Mayoral candidate. She has an organization. She can raise MONEY. She can put together a coalition representative of the whole City. She is a lawyer and CPA. One on one against Daley Brown may have a chance. Regardless she may be setting herself up as Daley's succesor. Here is the question. Who would police officers support. The majority allegedly hate Daley, but would the majority of the police be receptive to having a black female mayor?
I think Dorothy Brown is a very viable candidate. She's been building a grass roots organization for years and has done a remarkably good job bringing the courts into the 20th Century. She's a lawyer, class of 96, is an experienced business person, is generally well-respected and touch as nails. She might not be able to beat Mayor Daley outright but given that he's tired, and Maggie's sick, he may just be willing to pass the reigns on to her. Stay tuned. . .
I just woke up but help me out here, wasn't the mayoral primary election struck down by the Illinois supreme court? It's strictly a general election and as many people can run for the HMFIC as long as they have the "qualifications".

Minnie Long raised her now grown children in the Cabrini-Green row houses and continues to live in the area. But in recent years it has become a place that she fears.
It is not the crime in the near North Side community -- which has fallen in recent years -- but those fighting crime that give her pause.
"I'm scared of the police," Long, 66, said after a Chicago Police Department community meeting Tuesday night.
Long was in a crowd of about 150 residents at the Seward Park Field House at North and Orleans, just steps from a police-involved shooting that exacerbated tensions between residents and law enforcement.
Ellis Woodland, 14 was shot Aug. 7 after he pulled what appeared to be a high-powered pistol but turned out to be a BB gun.
"I was in my bedroom and I heard those five shots" that police fired at the teen, Long said. "When I found out what it was -- if anybody shoots me that many times, they intend to kill you. It was uncalled for. "
A police review panel ultimately ruled the shooting justified.
Cline: Police 'building trust'
Tuesday night's meeting offered a chance for police to take questions from residents, but most of those who spoke voiced familiar complaints, including allegations of police brutality and rude behavior.
Many residents and police department brass, including Supt. Phil Cline, agreed on Tuesday that the majority of officers are respectful.
"Every day the Chicago Police Department is out there building trust as we fight crime," Cline said, explaining that some days "we do it well," and other days some officers don't do as well.
Tisa Morris, who heads the Office of Professional Standards, told residents that OPS is their first stop when they want to file a complaint.
Several ministers were on hand Tuesday night, as were elected leaders including Ald. Walter Burnett (27th), who represents the Cabrini-Green community. Burnett expressed worry that there weren't many teens at the meeting to voice complaints.
"Initially I was upset ... but then I realized there were a lot of middle-aged women who talked about how they have been disrespected. These are law-abiding residents, and I think that's something the brass needed to see and hear," he said.
Cline said residents' concerns would be shared with supervisors and patrol officers as part of an ongoing discussion about police-community relations.
"We've heard what you've said and we're going to go back and work on being better."

Why does this suprise you? The history of this city is rife with this type of politics. It has been going on since the City was founded.
Nothing is new here or surprising. Remember this though, love him, or hate him, who is out there that cannot only beat Daley, but can manage the city?
Who can bring experience, real experience to do the job? Who has the muscle to get things done on the State and Federal levels?
Daley is the guy we love to hate and hate to love, but no one on the political horizon can match him. No one has the financial backing, the political backing, and the votes. We bash him because we work for him and are treated in a poor and niggardly fasion. We know he does not like or appreciate our efforts. But we are few, and the rest of the people in this city like him. There is the tragic flaw. He has the votes.
The Democrats have been doing it all the time since the begining of the Democratic Party in Cook County/Chicago. No it's not illegal, but it does undermine the electorate. This is CLASSIC MACHINE POLITICS, nothing more, ititiated to RE-ELECT Daley.
Since you can't beat them, then leave them. When I retire Im selling my house so fast itt will make your neck snap. I'm leaving the City of Daley ASAP. The lawyer for the family of the fool from Cabrini Green is UNCF funded. So if you are stupid enough to buy a dog to educate a dog may you gag on your onion, get mustard on your shirt, and suffer the most horrible gas pains for supporting that cause. Hey I just wanna know when will the Supt of public schools, Mr. Duncan, is going to start showing up in neighborhoods on the NW side passing out free backpacks and school supplies to the kids....seems like this is racially profiled to me. He's only going to the hispanic and black communities. I'm betting a high percentage of the hispanic kids have parents here illegally.

The Dept. created this mess. For YEARS the rumors were out there concerning this unit (SOS). So when we the working police went out there everyday doing the best we could, hearing these whispers wondering how in hell could all these guys be getting awards, medals, notoriety, etc while it was alleged they were cleaning house. The shame is this could have been subsided a long time ago. What were the Big Bosses doing out there while this was going on. Wait till it gets out how many open money CRs were generated by these guys. These guys fucked-up (allegedly) but why was'nt a stand taken earlier before it got to this (alleged) magnitude. We are NOT thirsty for any coppers blood, but we have a good idea of what is alleged and how the higher-ups were an incubator for this disaster.

First of all, we still remember when there were actual primaries and the republicans ran real candidates. It was only in 1999 that the Illinois Legislature permitted an open election that allowed a primary candidate that received 50% plus 1 to be the overall winner. For the first time in recent memory though, it's possible that Daley might not win 50% plus one leading to a runoff between the top two vote getters. That'd be interesting in and of itself.
So we made an error based on recent changes in the electoral process. Big deal. It still looks like a Machine ploy to spread minority votes among a number of lesser candidates, which was the gist of the posting.

I also attended her press conference this afternoon with another officer. If THE CITY OF CHICAGO WANTS THINGS DONE, PUT A WOMAN IN CHARGE....She asked me what my opinion was, and I gave her an honest and viable one. SHE NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF THE POLICE AND GIVE US OUR BENEFITS BACK INSTEAD OF BOZO DALEY ALWAYS TAKING THEM AWAY.
