A Liberal Who Is Starting to Get It

No, not Joe Lieberman (though he is another). Christopher Hitchens on The Bill Maher Show:
  • Christopher Hitchens: "Who wants a Third Word War? The Iranian President says that one member state of the United Nations should be wiped physically from the map with all its people. He says the United States is a Satanic power. Members of his government, named members of his government have been caught sponsoring deaths squads. He's lied, he's lied to the European Union about his nuclear program-"

Bill Maher: "But you know that a lot-"

Hitchens: "He says the Messiah is about to come back. Who's looking for a war here?"

Maher: "So does George Bush, by the way [audience applause]. That's not facetious [audience applause continues]."

Hitchens: "That's not facetious. Your audience, which will clap at apparently anything, is frivolous. [oohs and groans from audience, Hitchens gives them the finger] Fuck you, fuck you. [groans continue]"

Maher: "I was just saying what the President of Iran and the President of America have in common is that they both are a little too comfortable with the idea of the world coming to an end."

Hitchens: "Cheer yourself up like that. The President has said, quite a great contrast before the podium of the Senate, I think applauded by most present, in his State of the Union address, that we support the democratic movement of the Iranian people to be free of theocracy -- not that we will impose ourselves on them, but that if they fight for it we're on their side. That seems to be the right position to take, jeer all you like."

Courtesy of via AceofSpades

Hitchens is starting to see what the Right has seen all along. That this is truly a World War against a new fascism. The Iranian president is a HUGE believer in the return of the 12th Imam and is working actively to bring about his return. He's said as much on numerous occasions. But unless you actively follow the blogosphere, the mainstream media reports none of this and actually sends Mike Wallace to interview this nut and make him seem reasonable.

Hitchens actually calls the Left on it's two facedness for applauding Bush's speech supporting democrat elements in Iran and then doing nothing but undercutting efforts to bring it about. And Maher is out there promoting outright lies by alleging that Bush is looking for war and is comfortable with the end of the world.

The time for the carrot-and-stick with Iran is just about at an end. Barring an internal revolution (the Iranian government continues to slaughter student protesters on an almost weekly basis - bet you haven't seen that in the papers either), there's going to be more upheaval shortly.

There are two main types of liberals:
1. Those like our resident lefty who don't understand the reality of liberal policies, but think liberal theory is cool, so they latch on to it.
2. Those like the Clintons and Obama, who are smart enough to know better, but will do and say anything and everything to get votes.
I swear there should be an IQ test before you're permitted to vote or serve on a jury.

Stop changing topics: let's keep talking about the 018th district coppers who sat through roll call while being verbally attacked and insulted and not one of them walked out of the room. Too bad because even if one of them got an unlikely day suspension it would have been a rallying point and on helluva benefit. Got to love the newbreed of coppers on the job (just sit there and take it) then whine later.

Just gotta love the NeoCons and their appointed heirs to the throne of power. First the U S Govt. don't have any intention of controlling IRAQ....then their favorite of heroine from Florida has decided that seperation of Church and State is a LIE....
That if Christians aren't elected politician would only legislate sin
(This got to really go over well in the Jewish communities,
especially in Florida)

and for all of you who take the time to vote, don't worry
GOD actually make those decisions for you!!!!!

Its gonna be fun, watching the NeoCons trying to spin this one!
This should be worth a couple of hundred of Mea culpas!!!!!!!

MIAMI Aug 26, 2006 (AP)— U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris told a religious journal that separation of church and state is "a lie" and God and the nation's founding fathers did not intend the country be "a nation of secular laws." The Republican candidate for U.S. Senate also said that if Christians are not elected, politicians will "legislate sin," including abortion and gay marriage.

Harris made the comments which she clarified Saturday in the Florida Baptist Witness, the weekly journal of the Florida Baptist State Convention, which interviewed political candidates and asked them about religion and their positions on issues.

Separation of church and state is "a lie we have been told," Harris said in the interview, published Thursday, saying separating religion and politics is "wrong because God is the one who chooses our rulers."

"If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin," Harris said.

Hutchins really said it right, but what is absolutely amazing is dumbass Maher's comment that George Bush wants to see the end of the world--would like to have seen him explain that one.

I was at a dinner party recently when a (liberal) friend said, right out of the blue, "George Bush wanted to turn
America into a theocracy."

Now it's easy to say, just consider the source, but the fact is this is a very nice, very smart guy, a good friend for many years. He's a Ph.d and chairman of the Philosphy Department at an Illinois university.

So how do such smart people come to make such collosally dumb, unsupportable statements when it comes to George Bush? What makes them willing to go out on that kind of limb and so hold themselves out to be absolute fools?

Maybe leftisthebest can help out here.

I am not sure what the point was of this this goof Once again, as I have stated previosly, there are worst regimes than Iraq and Iran, but the U.S. has not taken action against these. No, the U.S. policy in the Mideast has been wrong for decades, and not we must pay the price.

Being in a city-wide unit, I can matter-of-factly say 002 has the most unprofessional desk crew and lock up in the city.

All it would have taken is one call to get this woman transported to a hospital. One call. Instead you tell her to shut-up and fuck off. And what happens? She gets raped and tossed off the seventh floor of a high rise. Very professional guys! Top notch!

Thanks for letting us tax-payers shell out a $100 million judgement because you were too busy talking on your cell phone or reading the paper to be bothered!

I guess I should reply to the comments of Murphy40:

I understand the reality of liberal politics, but don't always follow the lead of liberal politicans. Unlike conservatives, who follow their leaders, like lemmings into the ocean, I follow my conscience. Even M can tell you I criticize alleged left wing politicans. Rarely do the consevatives here attack their own. Like I said, they are lemmings.

Finally, Murph, I do not follow liberal theory because "it is cool." Perhaps in other occupations that would be true, but being liberal in law enforcement is anything but that, and i am sure you would agree.

Does anyone have firsthand knowledge of this guy? Anyone read the book yet? All BS? Who has a good list of on the money CPD books to list?

Brotherhood of Corruption: A Cop Breaks the Silence on Police Abuse, Brutality, and Racial Profiling (Hardcover)
by Juan Antonio Juarez

Antonio Juarez, a Chicago cop for seven years, offers a harrowing inside look at the corrupt practices used by police in enforcing drug laws and the blue wall of silence that insulates them. No angel as a youth, Juarez jumped at the chance to become a cop, like his father, and the opportunity for stability, job security, and maybe a chance to correct some social ills. As a member of an elite narcotics unit, what he found instead were glaring inequities--repeated busts of street-corner dealers but a blind eye toward the dealing and use of drugs in more rarefied circles. He witnessed police abuse of power, beatings of suspects, sexual abuse of female suspects, and repeated use of racial profiling in arrests and prosecutions in the war on drugs. He succumbed to temptation and joined his colleagues in abuse and corruption. Disillusionment and his own personal demons eventually led to his downfall. This is a starkly revealing look at how urban policing oversteps the bounds of the law in the so-called war on drugs. Vernon Ford

I read the book Brotherhood of Corruption by Juan Antonio Juarez. That guy is a total piece of shit. He goes on and on about the all the criminal activity he was a part of including using drugs. He then blames the system, the department and anyone else he can. Not once does he take responsibility for his own actions. It's everyone else’s fault he ended up being a dirty dope head p.o.s. He was dirty because he is a weak person with no morals as shown by his actions outside the job. He got busted and now is trying to redeem himself, and oh yah make money

I read the book. He tries to make himself look like a hero. Says only one time did he take money from someone. Says he made narcotics with about a minute and a half on the job, but politics really had nothing to do with it.

The book makes (as Lil Macolm would say) European-American officers look like racists who steal money.

He does put some truths in there however and does show some bad stuff some offiers did, which I believe. It is worth the read, but realize he tries to make himslef look good.

Okay Muph, regimes worst than Iran, off the top of my head:

North Korea
several in Africa.

Why do we not go after these regimes. Let's see:

China: cheap goods means more more for corporate America at the expense of America workers

North Korea: their standing Army would give us a much better fight then the opposition in Iraq

African nations: persons of color don't matter to the persons in power in the U.S.A.

Finally, I don't get your remark about women and learning. What in the world does that mean? I see however, that as a "good" conservative rather then debate the issues you launch into personal attacks. Bet you learned that from Rush.

I posted the results right after the court date on the 24 Aug but here goes again......

We have to name the city as a defendant or no federal venue 20 days to amend complaint no ruling on substance of suit/jurisdiction the question

considering the options probably state court

never give up!

the scary message that if your views don't agree with the people in power and you stand for election and have 40+% of the vote but lose the concept to the winner goes the spoils prevails.

There is no doubt as evidenced by the two amended state returns for 2003 that the reported salaries for the current president and attorney were grossly understated and as a result FOP 7 requested from the state that they no longer be considered a charitable organization therefore they no longer have to file the 990 that truly reflects Donahue's salary.

You say it sounds like "I" lost if the current leadership prevails!

YOU the membership LOST because if this stands anytime the "current leadership" doesn't like what you are saying YOUR GONE

"I" lost?

Wake up/Silence the opposition sounds like America to me!

Everyone on this site including SCC is afraid of retailation..

the fear of retaliation pales to having "NO BALLS" to stand up for what you believe.

Anonymous another name for Chicken Shit Curious George and all you big tough cops

Officer Anonymous No thanks..

SCC monitors the postings why would anyone feel they have to remain anonymous if you speak the truth/opinion stand up

Bush not only looked for war he started on and as for Hitchens:

"The ACLU filed the case in January on behalf of a group of journalists, scholars, attorneys and nonprofits who routinely communicate by phone and e-mail with people in the Middle East. They say the nature of their calls and e-mails led them to believe they are being monitored by the NSA.

The plaintiffs included authors James Bamford, Christopher Hitchens and Tara McKelvey, as well as New York University scholar Barnett Rubin. The Council on American Islamic Relations, Greenpeace and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers also joined the lawsuit on behalf of their staff and membership."

Yea, I remember Juarez, he was a PPO in 014 when I was there. Then several years ago, when he was probably prepping for this book, he gave the READER an interview. He spent alot of the article badmouthing his FTO, Johnny Lyons(RIP). Johnny was one of the best, bravest, smartest, etc Ive ever worked with. I hated this Juarez and the Reader ever since. F*ck Juarez, his family, and the b*tches that are going to accept this bastards seed; thats assuming he likes broads. As far as us "crackers" go, the worst brutality I saw in 014 (89-90)was Latino cop on Latino thug. Didnt have a problem w/it, thought it was life. Johnny, I miss you!!!!

How do you know he put some truths in their? Did you work in narcotics with him? Anyone of us could write a book talking baout how we and other cops brutalized people, made false arrests, took money, and on and on. It does not mean any of it would be true.

I would say the only truth in his book are his name and the fact that he was a cop. He was a junkie who got caught. How does he get back at the Department? Write a book of lies that not one person can verify. We could all do the same. Books about real police work do not sell. They are boring. Who wants to read about writing tickets, parkers, case reports, locking up shoplifters, driving in square circles; the day to day humdrum.

But if you claim to steal and bring in others....
