- Mayor Daley suggested Thursday that high school be extended for a fifth year to defray college education costs now squeezing working poor and middle-class families.
Call us silly, but aren't quite a few high school kids, especially in the Chicago Public School system, already doing a fifth year of high school? Six years if you count all the summer school.
And how is extending high school a year going to help anyone? Isn't that just going to screw Illinois property taxpayers by dumping more money into a failed state system that can't get huge percentages of it's "graduates" into to even complete college anyway? Too many teachers can barely (and we mean barely) teach their subject at a high school level. Where is he planning on getting teachers qualified to teach AP-type or college level courses?
Oh yeah, right. The casino money.

How about these colleges make tuition more affordable. Like health care,tuitions are more than triple the rate of inflation. The average family has to go into debt up to their necks to put a kid through school. And God help you if you have two or more college age students at once.

you are correct when you stated that many cps students already spend five to six years in high school. I use to work at a high school on the north side, it was normal to see kids with straight "f's" on their report cards and then brag about it. Funny how many of them were crying when they had to go to summer school or were kicked out.
The only kids worth helping are those who want help and actually try to succeed, the rest should sent to some sort of mandatory boot camp for bust out students.

Just an extended babysitting gig at the taxpayers expense. Someone should check for lead paint, asbestos and air quality levels at city hall. Something is very much amiss.
Hey SCC: I noticed sometimes a "comments deleted by administrator" slug on threads. Curious why that appears. Don't you just prevent them from being posted in the first place or are there some posts that you decide to delete after the fact?
Your Department should do what Cincinati PD did to their commuity. Stop chasing those gun toting savages, just set up the crime scenes, take the reports and make the notifications, you guys should let them destroy whatever little they have left within their community. you need tax relief and i need affordable housing. the way things are looking we will both get what we want soon. OR did you mean you want your house to still be way over valued and not pay the high taxes associated with that high value ?
