Bridgeport Moving On Up?
- The success of the White Sox is fueling a renaissance around U.S. Cellular Field, and the old neighborhood is changing. One example of that is the end of the legendary bar, Jimbo's.
We've been through Bridgeport a number of times, and trust us, Bridgeport had nowhere to go BUT up. Seriously. The lack of any sort of amenities in the neighborhood surrounding "The Cell" did nothing for the area. People came, saw a game, and left. Now, with the nearby projects being leveled, HQ nearby and gentrification on the way, Bridgeport is poised for some big changes, not all of them good.

i see that they are building plenty of expensive condos, lofts and houses but they will never get rid of that smell.

I'm not a south sider,but listening to the story last night about Jimbos was sad. The guy turns a nothin littl bar into something and NOW some asshole landlord(probably a friend of "little dick") is going to kick them out aND TRY AND RUN THE BAR! Does anyone else see a problem with the landlord getting HIS liquor licesne?

Gotta love it! A cop slaps a kid for cutting his hand on a razor blade and the next day he's stripped. Any improvement to Bridgeport or anywhere else in the city is to applauded. With the right planners and investors the area around Cellular Field could be a "sports mecca." Before it's all over,the majority of the city will be gentrified. But I agree the situation with Jimbo's is kinda sad. You would think that Da'Mayor would intercede to help out a fellow Bridgeport resident and try to preserve a neighborhood insititution.
Bridgeport and Canaryville are on he way up. Word is Canaryville residents are actually starting to date outside of the family and a few have already gotten themselves some teeth. A true sign that things are improving. The new Canaryville non inbreeding births may spurn the new young bosses of this department.
Yes, Bridgeport is moving on up. It has a lot going for it. It is relatively safe, the housing stock is in good shape, it has decent public transportation and is close to downtown. In time the amenities will come. I wish I had invested in there 15-20 years ago. Most areas close to downtown are coming back, other places such as Englewood and Roseland won't come back for a long time. The queation is will there be a place for the middle class in Chicago, or will it become a city of the rich and poor only.

I'm a northsider but that area around Cellular Field is looking pretty darn good. May trade in my over priced northside cottage for a realistically priced home on the southside one day.
Another nice job by mary mitchel...she states in her newspaper crap...But residents in the neighborhood complained later that other police officers who came to the scene made racist remarks to people in the crowd.

I beg to differ. They keep us gainfully employed, are the cause for most overtime and have caused many coppers to fall out of their cars in hysterical fits of laughter. Bridgeport has always been a very close knit and good neighborhood to raise a family. To says it is moving up would be some what a misnomer. It was never a bad neighborhood, just a place where the tolerance level is nill. And that makes most northsiders afraid. GOOD. Forget about putting up bars and the like around the "Cell", all the suburbanites, north and far south side Sox fans should go the fuck home after the games. I don't want these drunk fucks walking all around the neighborhood at all hours of the night following a game. Mainly due to the fact that the fighting 009th district doesn't do a fucking thing around the park on game nights, or any other night for that matter. Yous guys can make all the jokes you want about Bridgeport, if thats what you need to do to make you feel better about generally overpaying for a raised ranch on the NW side. But I'm not gonna get into the back and forth b/w north side/south side, sox/cubs, "Real" police/police, my district/unit is better than yours bullshit....We are all in this together and Fuck all others!!!!

Go head, laugh, insult, and go home to your little raised ranch on the Northwest or Southwest side, where there is really nothing around within walking distance. There is not even a decent tavern. And I mean tavern.
The people in Brideport are laughing all the way to the bank. And guess what? While it may take years for you to make a decent profit off of your precious property value, property values in Bridgeport will probably double or more in five years.
So go ahead and make fun of anyone who buys there from all over the city, including me very soon. We can take it, us urban explorers, pioneers and settlers. We are tough. We are resilient. We will be making money when we sell out shortly, while you live in your precious little raised ranch on a block with more precious little raised ranches that all look alike.

Bridgeport is big and will get even bigger. They have million dollar homes now! Bridgeport reminds me of the north side 10-20 years ago. In 05-10 years you'll have to be a millionaire to live there! The real estate market has stabilized BUT not on the south side. I'm a north sider-it's great, but you'll be able to get rich south of Madison Street. GOOD LUCK

we are ALL moreons for living in Chicago. I should have realized that our pension is not portable OUT of the city. Oh great. Our houses are worth 4 or 5 hundred grand, but who is going to pay that? A PPO? A fire recruit? I could have my lawnmower priced out at 10 grand...doesn't mean someone is going to pay it. Once suburban transplants realize that CPD can't even chase after thier stolen cars, and that we are pretty much helpless when 'really' policing the neighborhood, non city workers are going to flee back to the burbs, Leaving a bunch of overpriced, over-valued ranch homes. Take a stroll from 35th to 60th on king drive. Rich Jewish neighborhood at one time....Got all built up, crime popped up, cya later, Skokie experienced a boom. Nothing but worthless mansions left for decades. Should have taken that job in the burbs....

yeah, o.k. down town is nice and 018 and 019 are full of hot broads but you can take a week or two a year and immerse yourself if you want without living here.
