Blackberries For Everyone!

  • BlackBerries, which have become as popular and addicting as cell phones in the business world, may someday be in the hands of all 13,500 Chicago Police officers.
OK, we can see the point of having them for Bike guys and Segway drivers and even foot guys. But everyone? C'mon now. We can't even get PDT's that work every day, cars that aren't in the shop every few thousand miles, and radios that don't crap out after 6 hours. And that's just the basics.

wait until they go lost! Segaway drivers? Why is it that the foot guys from 001 have come to mass transit as they do not want to ride the segways as they are hard on the feet/ankles and if anything happens on them it is your fault even though there is slim to no training?

The news report said they will be provided so officers can run license plates when there out of the car. So tell me how that will work, Im carrying this thing walking to my lunch location and stop to enter a plate? or as Im sitting eating my lunch, somebody walks up to me and says officer can you run this plate? Or im in the middle of a domestic and WAIT! I gotta see who's sending me a text.
I can assure you, I will not take one of these stupid things. How about nuying me a new vest that expired 12 years ago. Money better spent for safety.
STUPID STUPID STUPID!
Mabey the new College trained recruits will get a kick out of them so they can track there clout.

Obviously an idea from Ron "Real Police" Huberman. These things are good for the Gold Stars so that they can keep touch off duty. Also, good for junior gold stars like Lil Phil and other bosses kids who need their egos stroked.Aren't we still able to receive info, run names and plates and communicate via the radio or pdt? Here is a better idea....take this money and put it in our pension!

BLACKBERRIES??? LMAO.

Since I retired, I have no use for a cell phone or even a wristwatch.

On occasion, I carry an iPod to listen to my favorite oldies.

I call it "SERENITY".

Hey, this is like Huberman a statement in the late 90's in the media.

"Were going to be completely paperless."

CHRIS and CLEAR have changed all that right? CHRIS program compounded the paper and I mean compounded talk about waste. What a joke, (Blackberriers for all.) Whose writing and putting out this spin. Boy are the taxpayer's dumb.

Were still working off the ancient PDT's and to match it, I have an ancient helmet. The city doesn't even want it back because it's so old! How many of you have a gas mask? Look, if the sh&t hits the fan I'm seeking out those few with masks and I'm taking it from you! Your an easy target because there's only a few who stand out. Yep, the boss's and your Blackberry goes to! LOL.

the computers in the car work only about half the time and the ones in the station are so slow it takes 90plus minutes for an arrest that used to take 30. plus now you have to print out copies of the arrest and make copies of everything. we do three different humpers now one for the watch one for the dist manager and one for the DOC all with copies of your activity our district has run out of paper on a couple of occasions

A sad day for the County Police
21 Years ago today.

Investigator Michael Ridges
End of watch 17 October 1985

NEVER EVER FORGET!!!!

On October 17, 1985, Officer Ridges, assigned to North Investigations, was reviewing a series of vandalism incidents that occurred around a Prospect Heights home. While working on the case near the home, Officer Ridges noticed a car with three men inside who closely matched the physical descriptions of the offenders in the case. Officer Ridges contacted the radio room with the basic description of the vehicle and its occupants prior to curbing the car. Once stopped, all three men exited the car and while Officer Ridges was checking their identities, one man drew a concealed gun and shot Officer Ridges once in the head and once in the hand, fatally wounding him.

The offenders were caught a short time later based on Officer Ridges' original radio transmission and a telephone call to police from a citizen who witnessed the incident. It was later revealed through a police investigation that the three men were en route to commit a contract murder at the Prospect Heights home where Officer Ridges was investigating the vandalism incidents. One of the offenders confessed to police he was prepared to kill everyone present in the intended victim's home.

God Bless you Mike

E-Bay has 7 Second Chance body armour listed for sale. Prices running from $25.00 to $225. for new in box. Unbelivable. Body armour abounds, now why would anyone need body armour these days besides the police and military. Ahhhh never mind it's Second Chance anyway. Tsk, tsk what is this world coming to. Be careful out there!

Well the one upside of the blackberries is that you can immeadiately stop any conversation in mid-sentence to check it. It's sooo nice when the bosses do this as you are trying to have an intelligent (hey, I said TRYING) conversation with them.....

I don't see everyone getting them.
From a supervisory standpoint, I could see handing them out to Tact Lts. (since they all have take home unmarked squads, anyway) and even Gang and Tact Sgts, due to changing assignments based upon the most recent crime trends.
But I doubt the Dept. will pass them out to everyone, because having an in house network is soooo
expensive, and we all know that even now, certain Command personnel and supervisors assigned to specialized units are commonly called on the carpet and forced to ante up for exorbitant cell phone usage.

Ok, So I missed the b and put in a n. sorry, that must have really made you miss some sleep and take a pill.
I already bought a new (Better than issued) vest. My point is that the if the department was really looking out for us, they would provide a new vest when the old shitty ones expire. I can name several dept's that do, including a uniform exchange program like the fire department has.
Man, you guys are ruthless. Im gonna have to check my spelling before posting. Should have paid attention in school. You have to keep in mind, I've been on for 23 years, my fingers don’t work like they used to, just had to put out money for a new vest that Im only gonna use for another 2 years. I would have rather used that money to put my fishing boat in storage for the winter. And no, I didn't use the money on women, just booze. Women are too expensive!

It's against city ordinance to use them in traffic. Blackberry's suck. Dropped calls and a lot of dead zones. I can see Pookie using them for personal bidness, know what I'm sayin? If I get one, it sits in the locker until I retire.
My tax guy advises against using them because I won't be able to deduct it from my taxes like I can with my personal celly.

It cost me $210 a month in Indiana to store my boat. Inside storage. Extra $80 to empty my pluming and septic and add antifreeze. Uniform allowance doesn’t cover all of it after deductions. I guess that’s what duty availability checks are for.
If I had two years left, I wouldn’t bother getting another vest, but then again, im inside with a cushy job counting paperclips and using the department issued easy button

To the Glock question:

The company recalled close to 300,000 pistols, the gun really doesn't make you a better shooter. In fact, most people may have a problem shooting them. The ammo...okay, there are better catridges out there. Although, it would cost the dept an absoberant amount since they already pay too much for a minority bid contract to buy ammo. Actually, it's just sold through a "business" who purchases the ammo and tacks on the 20% profit that you and I are paying. Maybe I know too much info.

back to the glock thing... again, some people may have a had time with the pistol, especially after the magazines are half shot and the gun gets lighter. More noticable recoil with a lighter gun. The pistols we have are from extremely credible manufacturers with much experience and believe it or not, quality products. Even those ugly Rugers. Ask any range guy how many problems they see with them. Again, the pistols aren't the problem. Our operating budgets, aldercreatures, Mayor...etc are. Oops, and the minority "tack on my 20%" businesses are the problem.
If tests, contracts and other business should be racially equal...than shouldn't the merit process on our department be made up from the racial make up of our department? Or of the city? Let's give it a more proper name...."merit" would require pulling everyone's jackets to determine if they should be "meritoriously" promoted. We all know that doesn't happen.

What would be a better name for it??????????

Is the city going to send every officer to a one day training session for these Blackberries? This is going to cost a small fortune. Why don't they use that money to give us a raise or match a small percentage of each officers contribution to their 457 Deffered Compensation plan. That would be a novel idea to present to the Mayor Daley and Uncle Phil's staff.
