Lanuti's "spot" has been filled by Gross, who would lose his job anyway when the Supt. leaves the Dept. The incoming Supt. will promote/appoint his own "gopher"
...I mean "Executive Assistant to the Supt. Years ago, it was just a Lt.'s spot. Now, it's an Exempt spot, Commander rank/pay,and NONE of the hassles of managing a DISTRICT or UNIT. NOT TOO SHABBY!!

Any Exempt who has the age, is at 75%, and has 3 years in that Exempt grade would be crazy to stay around. Take that $90,000 plus pension and run. This Department and City is shot. If you think the current crop of Exempts are bad, wait till you see who replaces them!
All the exempts leaving is good news for Captain Graeber. Now maybe he can get the exempt job he deserves.
On a related note, how sorry can we feel for Cline? Boo Hoo! As far as Superintendents go he was decent but he (and people like him)are responsible for the types of scandal which ended his career.The Chicago system of nepotism and clout protected,enabled and gave jobs to the SOS people, Tony "the Turd" Abbatte and Broderick "P Stone" Jones. Of course what does Cline know of the reality of the police department? He has had his way since day one on this job. Cline did a whopping two years working the street before drifting from spot to spot. Like all good thieves, he became a government snitch and his career skyrocketed. The Clines and Daleys of this city have created this mess and now all of us working police are going to be punished for the next ten years or so.
Radke's spot was filled over a week ago by Dean Andrews. Gross moved over to Lanuti's spot and Michele Engstrom is in his spot, although that will probably only be until the next Supt. is named.

First read problem #6 and #7 in the "problems facing the department" section and then consider all the old time bosses that have left under the Cline/Starks administration. I am taking about exempts who you were happy to see at the scene of your police involved shooting. Guy's that you knew would give you a fair shake and the benefit of the doubt. Are some of these guy's still around, a few, Mike McCotter and Pat McNulty are still here, although I can't understand why. The majority of the old time bosses got out after they saw Cline start to favor the bureau of investigative services over the patrol division. Making the patrol division support for the detectives, narcotics, VCD, Intelligence and so on. The correct thinking exempts knew that Clines ideas were ass backwards. All bureaus should be support for patrol,the people out if the street 24/7 being the first responders to everything. As Clines administration progressed we saw the rise of the likes of Risley, Maher, Cronin, Keating, Stevens and a host of other no nothings in the exempt ranks. The old timers bailed out slowly but surely and the ones that are left are soon to be gone.

A traffic unit asshole gave a Cook County Sheriff's Police officer a DUI last month. Way to go jerkoff. Be careful in the burbs because i hear they are out to get CPD.
Hope the replacements for the departed remember what it was like to sit in a beat car. Most if not all of them forget where they came from. Anyway they didn't spend much time in a beat car.
I don't care who the replacements are ,it won't affect me at all.What I do care about is watching my own ass,it's always the no clout no rank no relations guys that get hurt when push comes to shove.The way I see it, I don't mean anything to them and they don't mean anything to me. MAYBE the Sheriff TALKED his way into the DUI....did you think that couldn't happen? Unless you were there, no one really knows what happened...so it's best not to draw conclusions. We've all seen a recent example of one of OUR finest caught on video beating a young mother. Anyone who gets stopped driving while impaired gets what they deserve. Wearing a badge doesn't excuse potentially destructive behavior or a drug/alcohol abuse problem. Heck, the copper may have saved that Sheriff's life, or somebody sharing the road with him, MAYBE EVEN A MEMBER OF YOUR OWN FAMILY.

This is actually about a previous post, the one about the traffic copper falsely accused of fondling a TVB.
Several months back at a committee meeting for the cameras, this type of incident was discussed, where a PO is falsely accused, and the tape PROVES it, and the complainant signs an affidavit. IAD immediately said it was not the policy of the Department to pursue criminal charges. Several members of the committee argued strongly against that policy, and a letter was drafted to Clinr for clarification.
Cline responded IN WRITING that in cases where there is substantial evidence of a false report, the Department would seek charges through the ASA.
When this case was brought up at the last meeting IAD LT again stated that the Department's policy was not to prosecute, and he was immediately jumped on by everyone there. Apparently he never got the memo...
Last I heard, they are going to review the case for possible criminal charges, they are just going slow to try to put the best possible face on a very important test case...

Cline asked several retired cronies to come back on the job with a promise of a gold star. The only two takers were Joe Murphy (poor guy, I'll bet he regrets it) and Joe Barry. Guess most of those old retired cronies saw the eventual writing on the wall for Cline and decided to keep enjoying their pensions.
Jealous, or you got caught doing something you weren't supposed to be doing. Thats the only thing I can think of that would have anybody badmouthing three really good coppers, Keating, Graeber and O'donnell. At one time or another I worked with or around all three. Here's a thought...those traffic guys are probably rigged up with video and audio, so if you (CPD, CCSP, ISP, any law enforcement) get pulled over by a traffic guy (radar gun mounted on the outside of car), be DISCREET and simply show your star and ID WITHOUT SAYING SOMETHING STUPID OR WAVING IT AROUND OUTSIDE THE WINDOW!!!!! Lt. Engstrom is very loyal to her workers. She is a big asset to the academy. Considering the LTS recently assigned to the academy, Michelle actually was very capable and took care of her officers. She never hurt another officer, unlike other white shirts at academy. Lately, it has been a revolving door at academy. Make a mistake and you are launched...unless you are SOS or protected. It is becoming a circus.

Hey Now don't forget Jimmy started out as a young boy going fishing with old man daley! Then shazaam he was on CPD! Then again a promotion then another, then daleys commander, then 001 commander then deputy next 1st deputy! does the mayor need a fishing buddy i could apply for that! Keating is great for the department he works 10 to 12 hours a day. When he is on furlough he calls or emails 10 to 20 times a day. So in other words he is a Townsend will never retire, till death and which one of us wants to work that hard. Give him the job suck whole.

If I choose to get in my car IMPAIRED and drive, then I have to accept the fact that I
1) may cause a crash with serious injuries, either to myself or others, and/or
2) I might get stopped for a traffic infraction, and I will have to deal with that.
Should I be so stupid as to drive impaired, I'll accept those consequences. I won't go on the blog and backstab the officer who was JUST DOING THEIR JOB, and maybe, just maybe, SAVED MY LIFE.
Let's not forget that Police Officers are injured (and killed) every year by DUI drivers plowing into squad cars! We owe it to ourselves to make the streets safer for US.
So again, I don't feel any sympathy for the Sheriff. Hopefully, he will MAN UP and deal with his problem LIKE AN ADULT, and not embarrass our profession any further. We've seen enough of that from our own recently. If that makes me a dickhead, I think I can live with that.

If Keating has to work that hard to keep constant tabs on his command, then he has made very bad choices in the staff that he has surrounded himself with. That in itself say's volumes about his management and leadership abilities.

Commander Dulay would be an excellent choice for "top dawg" of the CPD. Unfortunate he will have to retire ths year due to mandatory age. He was a great boss to work for in 011, and would be a terrific Supt. He will truly be missed when he is forced out ina few short months. For the guys in 017 who bash him on this blog, all I can say is, "be a working copper." Dulay has no problem backing working coppers. You obviously must not be one of them.

When Lt Engstrom was a Sgt in the 12th dist some years back, my mother was in the Hospital I received a call that she took a turn for the worse. I called Sgt Engstrom told her what happened then gave her a slip for the next 4 hrs, she said I can't approve this as there isn't anything you can do for her I need you to stay on the wagon. Commander Dulay would be an excellent choice for "top dawg" of the CPD. Unfortunate he will have to retire ths year due to mandatory age. He was a great boss to work for in 011, and would be a terrific Supt. He will truly be missed when he is forced out ina few short months. For the guys in 017 who bash him on this blog, all I can say is, "be a working copper." ulay has no problem backing working coppers. You obviously must not be one of them.

Oh I see Capt Dulay here we go again your back writing about your sorry ass.I'm an officer from 14th dist Dulay was one of the worst bully white shirts I have ever worked for. first Dulay was in 11 about 13 years ago what the fuck? Dulay's lack of leadership caused nothing but drama each day. no management skills along with him being corrupt . He once put a gun to his head during roll call in front of about 15 officers then ask officer Foster if he would like to pull the trigger, the officer told him "don't temp me" The rest of us were in shock. what a nut case
