I have no idea if that info is true, but I can definitely tell you that Al is the REAL police and a great boss! IF it's true, I'm surprised you aren't stating that it's nice to see a boss who isn't afraid to be a gunslinger instead of running and hiding.

Two interesting stories from the 022nd Dist. in recent days.
Off Topic/An interesting story in the 022nd Dist. recently: An officer assigned to Homan Square stops to talk to a friend walking his dog in Mt. Greenwood Park shortly after midnight. He parks his unmarked city vehicle in the parking lot next to his friend's car. His friend is also the police, coincidentally assigned to the 022nd Dist. An F.O.P. medallion is on his vehicle. As the two chat a distance from their cars, they observed Bt. 2211 patrolling the park. They both wave to the officer and 2211 waves back. They both comment on how its nice to see the beat car actually patrolling the beat for once. Upon returning to their cars, they both see parking tickets on both the F.O.P. displaying car and the unmarked city car. The citation: no parking in a city park after 11:00pm. The Homan Square officer calls 2211 back to the scene and is met by P.O. Bob DeGasso. After identifying themselves and explaining to the officer why the tickets should be disposed of, DeGasso says " There are a lot of officers who live around here. I can't give everyone a break 'cause they're the police." The point about the citation on a city vehicle was lost on P.O.DeGasso. The point that he was ticketing fellow 022nd Dist. officer was lost on P.O. DeGasso. P.O. DeGasso addressed the officers as "sir" throughout their conversation. After a heated debate over the reasons why the tickets were unnecessary, P.O DeGasso tried to give the number to OPS to the officers. There are many of you who live in the 022nd Dist. So if the Superintendent is kicking in doors on New Year's Eve while chasing gun wielding morons, it's ok to plaster that on the front page of both newspapers and have CNN covering it nationally.

Off duty probationary po involved in fight at Bourbon street a month ago. Shoving verbal over a female.case sent before the special grandjury for agg battery official misconduct. Alledged complaiant wanted to decline prosecution but was brought before the grand jury by states attorney special pros.
Also district secretary in 022 along with w/c captain female from 005 threw a snit when Bourbon street management asked that her 19yoa son leave the establishment and not consume alcoholic beverage. Both female p/os then belittled management claiming how much business the 22 district brings in . if any one should be indicted it should be these two not some kid in a shoving match.

SCC, just read this thread alone and you've got to be able to see how this blog you've started is really bad for the dep't. We don't need our dirty laundry aired out for the public to see and even for other districts/watches to see. For instance, none of us were there to witness the incident with DeGasso but now we are all tainted by what we've read. Most will now forever think the guy is a jagoff, and he probablly is, but these things should be handled in house not on here.
Sometimes mistakes, confrontations, misunderstanding, etc. happen and to give people an open public anonymous forum to air these and personal grievences is just not right.
By your postings you've given me the impression that you are a smart and knowledgable person. I just can't understand how you cannot see that this blog is bad for morale and bad for the dept. It's seriously time to shut it down, or have registered postings so people can't just come on here and sling mud with no consequences. I live in 022 and have been a cop for some time. It gives me great pleasure to see a cop doing his job. Watch a stop sign in 022 no one stops because there the police or their husbands the police. The kid that'l get run over will be some cop or fireman's. The kid is following orders so don't mess him. Now a speacial note to the cop who said don't go to a 10/1 or an assist call, you are not the police and you are an asshole.

I'm not agreeing with the ticket writing, but apparently the whole new hiring proceedure is to weed out common sense and testicular foritude. That officer is one of many across the city. Park is closed after 11pm, there is no parking there. That is the chance you take when you park illegally.
All we can hope for is one day this kid will see that making revenue for a city is the only leverage coppers have against the mayor and join the rest of the kicked in the head club.

I don’t know the D/C of 15 and maybe he his a great guy, BUT if that was a P/O on the street that made the mistake of shooting an innocent civilian you can bet he or she would get time for some kind of B.S. charge, guaranteed! However, that is not the way the city and the department operate.

Nobody shot by the police...

Regarding police behavior in 022. Drive by 022 anytime. Despite all the parking available around the building you will find marked and unmarked cars in the no parking zones, on the sidewalk, half on the curb and half in the steet. In addition, it seldom that you will ever see a marked car on patrol waiting for a traffic light to change. Traffic lights and signs are ignored and please don't tell me they're always on the way to their next job. I say the problem begins with the supervisors and brass in 022 who, in their silence, condone this behavior.

you're right, at every roll call we are told to go thru red lights. Your observation is second to none, you're brilliant, if fact, they tell us to park in no parking zones and to park on curbs. The coment was buried in another thread - which is EXACTLY how rumors get started in the 21st century. And this is the medium we can use to communicate city wide.
We unearthed it, put it up on the front page, and attempted to gather some info by asking the readers in order to verify or kill the rumor. If it had been true, the media was going to get ahold of it anyway. If it wasn't true, we could reveal it to be BS. And as soon as we took those steps, a few tiny brained trolls became convinced we were out to slam a decent boss, get someone indicted and reveal state secrets to the communist media.
For some reason, the cover-up becomes more important than the actual truth of the story. When we attempt to point that out, we're slammed again and have all sorts of evil wished up us, our dearly departed sainted mothers and our families.
So to those who think they "schooled" us by pointing out their own lack of reading comprehension skills, think again. All you've done is prove the old way of doing things isn't going to fly anymore and when the lawsuits start flying, the ones who are going to be losing their houses to juries more sympathetic to the criminal than the unnecessary cover up is you.
It is refreshing that coppers are backing each other even a boss. a black boss. It really is not important that he is a boss or a black. He is the police and so are we, its about time!
When it comes to taking careof the police or their families, if it's an issue about a parking ticket or minor traffic, and the person's not a jagoff, let them slide.....if we can't take care of our own, then who will.....what comes around goes around...
SCC did the right thing. He heard a rumor, put up the post, asked for verification, and ended up with the truth!
Al caught a bad guy off duty at a family party who was involved in a shooting where someone was shot. Al did not shoot him, though he did fire a shot, which was instrumental in him getting the bad guy.
It looks like Al hasn't changed one day from his days in narcotics, where he was not afraid to jump in and help, despite his undercover status.
The rumor mill says that Al's promotions were merit. If they were, it is one of the few examples where the merit system actually worked.
Why isn't the city giving Al his due during this incident? I couldn't think of a better example to put before the press.
From the story in the Sun-Times today regarding this incident, this should have been a "feel good story" on Sunday or at least Monday. What was the delay? I don't know this Cmdr, but maybe he wasn't making a big deal out of it like some other glory hounds would have. I think that was the whole point of the original post.
DeGasso decided to write a bunch of copper's cars at the benefit for slain Metra P/O Tom Cook,for residential parking, and did this on his own. Good job asshole, showing 3000 other coppers what a jagoff you are. Afraid to stay east of Vincennes where you belong? Hope Area 2 remembers to "follow all the rules" if you ever have the occasion to need them. Maybe you should try actually looking for bad guys if you're going to poach on 2211, take a tip from Evergreen Park PD how to be the Police..

I agree divide and conquer, a tactic used many times. Hopefully coppers are smart enough not to fall for it. I'm sure many of these posts are from "The Building".
The 015 commander was at a family bbq the gangbangers were shooting at each other in the alley. the commander went to the alley announced office and the gangbanger shot at him commander shot back gangbanger went down commander took him into custody and recovered weapon. Citizen was grazed by gangbangers shot was not a big deal in the newspapers because citizen was relative of commander and walked away with a bandaid on her leg. Good job by 015 commander.

As far as DeGasso writing tickets on his own the night of the Cook party, not true. Numerous calls received for cars blocking driveways started things out.
Also, DeGasso is assigned to 2211 midnights, so as far as him going after the gangbangers over east, maybe he should concentrate on all the gangbangers who are sons of P.O.'s living on 2211's beat. There are plenty out there, although the record is kind of spotty. You know, call the station, and tell a supervisor how your kid has Attention Deficit, and didn't really know what he was doing.....This, from P.O.'s and supervisors, occurs on a regular basis.
For at least the last 3 years, P.O.'s have been the biggest problem with parking tickets and speeding at really reckless and dangerous speeds in 022, BAR NONE. We do give breaks, but we ask for respect back by slowing down and paying attention, and it is NEVER received. We get chewed out by the public non-stop over this issue, they see it and know it. How about helping us out by obeying stuff, instead of repeatedly and publicly flaunting traffic laws?
