How is This a Story?

  • A 14-year-old boy is recovering Tuesday after being shot by a police officer on the South Side, and authorities are calling the shooting unintentional.
  • Officers pursued Kantrell Reese because they thought he had a gun on his hip, police said. They said they chased him for more than a block and the teen had at some point taken shelter in some bushes.
Ok, bad things happen sometimes. That's why we have the civil courts - to remedy wrongs. Channel 5 even has tons of quotes:
  • "If the officer's set to shoot him and he didn't have no weapon, that's wrong, and I want to know what the city's going to do about that," Langdon said. [the teens father]
  • "An accident considered to me is when you're bumping up against somebody. An accidental shooting? That's not an accident when you shoot somebody," said neighbor Tabitha Floyd.
  • "I don't think it was handled that well, for them just to release his weapon and shoot the 14-year-old," said Sylvia Coffee.
Then we get this statement in the SEVENTEENTH PARAGRAPH:
  • The gun police said Reese was carrying was not found on or near him and although they searched for hours Monday, it wasn't until Tuesday morning that authorities recovered the alleged weapon near the scene.
Um, what? The police FOUND the gun? So we have a 14 year old asshole - sorry, alleged asshole - spotted running with a gun. He disappears, then pops out of a bush and suddenly everyone is surprised when the police shoot him? Pardon our bluntness, but it seems to us that this kid needed to be shot, or hasn't anyone heard of ambush shootings?

God forbid we have a couple of media types shot. Granted, it'd thin the gene pool out of complete morons, but it might actually generate some sympathy for what the police experience day in and day out.

SOUNDS LIKE BAD PAPER.

BELIEVED HE HAD WEAPON THERE IS NO ACCIDENT. VERY BAD PAPER.

I WONDER IF THE DICK SLIPPED UP OR THE OFFICER WERE HARD HEADED HELL IT MIGHT BE A SGT GIVING BAD ADVICE OH WELL.

ACCIDENTS WORTH ABOUT A MILLION 15 DAY SUSPENSION FOR ACCIDENTS.

At these media days they should have a scenario like this with the virtual shooter. Let them see somebody running with gun in hand and then that same person jump out at them. You can bet they would all shoot him. But it would still not change a thing. It sells more papers if they make us out to be the bad guys. You can bet they will claim the gun was planted.

Guns are banned in Chicago. Handguns have been effective removed since 1982. We have safe storage laws too, and he is a kid.

Kid wasnt even around in 1982!!

So for the cops to assume he has a gun, where is the justification of such?
The laws work in Chicago, they keep it gun free.

they already claimed that when they said their famous "allegeded" word---i hate that word---they use it for there benefit only!! The crazed female with a shotgun "allegededly" shot at the 3 police officers---WTF!! of course she shot at them--the three officers 1 with a graze wound and the other two shot in the arm--those were not miracle injuries----or maybe the conspiracy is that they shot themself---NOT!!

you know ladies and gentleman this sounds like a scenario which plays all too common in the communities we work the family is looking for a payday from the city! you know what the city is going to settle because the corporation counsel does not have the balls to fight anything!i find it utterly amazing that the family wants us to scream verbal directions when someone is shooting at us and they think its ok for the youth to run from the police! i agree with 07/18/2007 12:12am id love to see these reporters, jesse jackson, and father pfleger and all these "minority activists" see what they would do! i bet every dollar i have they wouldnt even hit the target they would hit grandma,a street light or any other bystander. thank god officer is all right and to all my fellow officers stand tall and lets not let these media assholes get us down and lets get through these stormy times we face as a family and lets be good to each other because frankly all we have is each other.

It's obvious you don't have the facts so quit trying to find blame with the dets or a Sgt. until you do.....

You're right, it's smelly that a gun was recovered.

On the other hand, are they claiming it was "unintentional" or are they claiming that they thought he was armed and fired to stop him? Gotta pick one.

A newspaper is a bad place to learn facts.

The kid AND his brother are always in some sort of trouble. Funny how his brother was nowhere to be found after the shooting. My thinking is did the kid hand off the gun to his brother? A 2nd offender ran through the yard, perhaps it was the shithead's brother.

It's a dark day for police. After the bullshit Iowa pulled and GOT AWAY WITH, if I was still working I'd simply be Officer Friendly. Do my eight, answer my calls, wave to a few kids and go home. Face it kids, no one is going to appreciate you again until there's another terrorist attack. Then you'll get discounts at Disneyland.

Hmmm...let me see here.....Running from the police (with supposed) gun in hand or even holding ones side like you have a gun, then jumping out from the bushes and getting shot?? Who would thunk it?

Better this shithead be shot then the officer.

I'm glad the officer shot the little piece of shit.

Oh I forgot...he's an honor student and he would NEVER do something like this. My boy is a good boy.

MY ASS HE IS.......

Stay Safe Everyone!

First 6 Months of '07 Deadliest for Officers in Decades

From Officer.com

Great. And the public, government, media, judges support us less and less everyday. Why protect these people without their understanding nor care.

That kids brother is a POS. 42 arrests, 1st one when he was 10 or 11 for battery. He's averaging 1 per month, and not for petty shit. He has stated that he will kill a police officer for shooting his brother and is not afraid to die. He's dangerous and unstable so be safe out there and keep an eye out for this guy.

I find it interesting for "Daddy" to pop up now. This kid and his brother and sister have been raised by an elderly invalid grandmother. Mama died about six years ago. brother has been in the system since he was 11. NUMEROUS arrest, says he wants to kill a cop. They live 2 blocks from the scene. Funny how when we went to the house the dead bolt was flipped as soon as officers stepped on the porch. No answer to the knock on the door. Where the hell has "daddy" been all these years? If the sorry mf'er had been around maybe his kids wouldn't be such a friggin mess. Brother is Kirby Reese, 9300 block of King Dr. Blue awnings. If you work citywide and are on our southeast side, be aware. He's known to stray down into 005 sometimes.

Stay safe out there.

scc, will understand if this has to be sensored...just needed to fucking vent!

At this point, I believe the city is paying off anyone that the police shoot. No matter if the police was in the right or not. Some of these thugs families feel they hit the lottery when their "honor student" is shot by the police. Should we just ignore the gang violence and let them kill each other???

07/18/2007 7:07 pm.......racist comment....name one racist comment that has appeared about these stories.because we called out the so called victim has been a long time thug and a shithead? because the little shithead was running with a gun and when he jumped out the officer did what any officer would do.? so i ask you what is racist about calling out the truth? im sick and tired of when someone calls out savage behavior, they are called a racist? maybe the blame should fall with these parents in the community who are too busy being buddies with the kids ainstead of being parents and discipling them. but i forgot that would mean the community would have to take "responsiblity"

kirby Reese- is very dangerous, he travels to 006, 005, and the north end of 022. I handled a domestic at his grandma's house where he had a gun and was threating her. He wants to follow PO's home and kill them infront of their famlies in the back. He says he lives the thug life.
